Chapter 1598: The Price of Synergy
Chapter 1598: The Price of Synergy
Safa had achieved the unthinkable: she had defeated one of the Cerebus Masked Men, mages considered the strongest individuals in all of Alterian outside of the Grand Magus themselves. If anyone had witnessed such an unbelievable feat, they would be immediately hailing Safa as a potential replacement for one of the Grand Magus seats, solely based on the raw power and skill she displayed. Even Safa herself was struggling to comprehend the victory.
From the very start, I had to go all out, she reflected, her body still humming with residual energy. Using Stoney’s special power to give my Qi a massive boost, and combining it with the Divine energy flowing through me, I was fighting at the peak of a Middle Stage Warrior. That Divine energy gives me a slight edge over others, but that wasn’t the full equation.
My Light Magic is at the Six-Star level, and combined with the God Eyes, when I perfectly blended it with the Qi, it was almost as if the two powers complemented each other flawlessly.
I was seamlessly able to combine those different magical systems to take down the Masked Man,
she concluded.
Safa was finally realizing, firsthand, how Raze was able to perform so well in both Pagna and Alterian. He constantly triumphed despite being a lower stage warrior or a lower star-level mage than his opponents. The secret was the perfect combination of disparate magical systems. If an individual could get that complex blend right, the result was overwhelming, a power exponential to its individual parts.
Now, she could feel a huge influx of the captured Light Magic surging toward her. As the immense energy entered her body, she quickly sat down on the ground, entering a meditative state. Usually, when dealing with Mana or Qi, she could focus on it while still moving and fighting, but this was a critical moment. She was going through another Star level advancement.
She could feel the magic rushing directly into her Mana Heart, expanding its capacity.
With this, I’ll be able to help out Raze even more, Safa thought, focusing on the stabilizing energy. But before that, once I’m done with this advancement, I’ll go help the people in the Underside as much as possible.
Due to the Pagna warriors being spread out and Raze himself directly engaging the attackers within the Underside, the defenders were faring surprisingly well against the invasion. There were still scattered deaths occurring across the battlefield, caused by the sheer ferocity of the attacks and the effects of the illegal substances the enemy mages were likely taking. However, the pace of the fighting had shifted into longer, drawn-out battles. The invaders no longer had the overwhelming, singular strength they did at the beginning.
Everyone was performing well, except for the mages directly defending the Dark Guild’s base. Because the Cerberus members were focusing their heaviest attacks on that base, the defending Dark Guild members had to spread out, attempting to hit the Cerberus mages from another angle.
Harvey sped through the city, using his specific ability to make himself move faster by creating a smooth surface beneath his feet, allowing him to appear as if he was surfing across the uneven ground.
He propelled himself upward and could see the Cerberus members still spinning in a dense, circular formation, acting as a protected shield for the entry point. The other Dark Guild members had spread out as well and were continually attacking the Light Mages with less focus, now using other forms of elemental magic since they knew their basic Dark Magic wasn’t strong enough to break the enemy’s barrier.
But for Harvey, the chaotic environment had given him the necessary time and power to build up a strong enough attack. He started to condense a massive amount of Dark Magic in his hands, and his puppet—his own personal source of power—was condensing an identical sphere of Dark Magic simultaneously. The twin sources merged into one gigantic ball, which finally fired out with an earsplitting roar.
It was easy to hit the circular formation. The enormous Dark energy ball struck one of the mages, and even if they could heal from the damage, the impact had completely broken the circular cohesion.
The force of the blast also shattered the focus of the Cerberus Guild members, and the rest of the Dark Guild instantly saw their chance. More magic was immediately cast, capitalizing on the opening. Plenty of talented individuals, like Londo, surged forward.
Londo himself chucked his body into the air, and then, like a bolt of lightning, he struck and hit one of the now-disorganized Cerberus Guild members, forcing the two of them to tumble violently to the ground. Several of the Dark Guild members were able to capitalize on the confusion, making a desperate jump onto the rest of the Cerberus members. Quickly, the strong, powerful defensive formation that the Cerebus Guild members had maintained was rapidly crumbling down.
“This is good, but we know the strength of the individual Cerberus members,” Harvey muttered to himself, watching the melee. “To take out a whole group of them, it previously took two hundred of us, and we already lost quite a large number taking down most of their earlier guild forces. I will have to go around eliminating them one by one.”
“I’ll go to the one closest,” Harvey declared, taking a step forward to join the fight.
But he was forced to quickly shift the ground beneath his feet to move himself rapidly back. A beam of energy had just hit the floor right where he had been standing, leaving a steaming hole.
“Oh, you are not going anywhere, the one with the Dark Puppet,” a new voice declared. Harvey looked up to see one of the Masked Men, who must have just arrived, hovering above. “You are the one that we have been looking for.”
