Chapter 4644: Scarlet Destiny Spindle
Chapter 4644: Scarlet Destiny Spindle
Davis grabbed the spindle from Tia’s hands, afraid that she would make eye contact with these monsters.
Tia didn’t misunderstand. She was vaguely aware.
She simply smiled at his gesture with a knowing look. She didn’t say that he was overprotective since this treasure was already broken. It shouldn’t be too dangerous, in her opinion, since all she wanted to do was produce thread like a spider weaving silk.
Although it took her more energy and required her to sacrifice her soul essence, this was mitigated a bit when she became an Empyrean. As for losing soul essence, she always had Davis and Myria to rely on.
Although her karmic burden would increase, it didn’t stop her from wanting to peer into destiny and fate.
The auction came to an end for the day, but they were free to stay in this VIP unit.
Davis told them to take a rest while he remained on the luxurious sofa, looking like he was pondering over some matters.
"Scarlet Destiny Spindle... it reached greater heights before encountering a man with a cursed artifact and was shattered. This most likely happened in the Shard Continent long, long ago."
"That’s right." Fallen Heaven agreed with an emotional voice, "The corresponding memories in the nascent spirituality of the Scarlet Destiny Spindle recorded the most intense moments in its short lifespan. Other than a few techniques, that was all I could gather before it completely dispersed. I can attempt to revive its spirituality and nourish the nascent spirit in order to awaken it. Do you want to awaken it?"
"No need." Davis’s voice was solemn, "This is a karma-attributed treasure. Awakening it will cause innumerable threads to entangle and may make me follow a previously stunted or severed path that is followed by its previous owners."
"Not bad. You’re still cautious..."
"..." Davis’s lips curled wryly when he heard that.
Wasn’t he stuck with a fate that shrouds all those who stay near Fallen Heaven? Didn’t it always lead its previous owners to their demise?
He was barely surviving, in his opinion. Regardless, he didn’t have any intention to let go of Fallen Heaven.
While it was also his bane, it was also his boon. In this aspect, it was no different than a cursed artifact. However, a talking and friendly cursed artifact was much more suitable for him than a cursed artifact that seemed so ominous, wanting to cause destruction.
Besides, he didn’t want to rattle the Shard World by using Fallen Heaven to restore the Scarlet Destiny Spindle, so he was on the fence about whether he should restore it here or elsewhere.
Nonetheless, while he temporarily decided not to restore the Scarlet Destiny Spindle, he didn’t stop investigating it. He tried activating it using various means, sending essence energy, martial energy, soul force, a combination of two energies, and then all three. Nothing worked.
The treasure was broken indeed. Then he tried using karmic soul force, which he rarely ever used since it was basically invisible. It couldn’t affect reality much and had to be used with other Laws in tandem to create an effect. One such example was Judgment Laws, a fusion between Karma Laws and Death Laws.
He also tried using Judgment Laws, but it didn’t work.
In the end, he wrapped the thread around the spindle and was about to stash it when he noticed Alinna standing by his side in the corner of his eye.
Davis cast his gaze on her. It seemed like she had returned after sending everyone to their rooms and accommodating them. As an attendant with debt, she needed to take care of him if he so pleased. But other than that, she must look after his comfort and await his orders by his side.
Fortunately, she had long been told by Shirley that they wouldn’t do anything, so she just stood by his side without trembling, but there was still a vague uneasiness in her eyes as she nervously awaited his command.
At that moment, Davis’s gaze unwittingly locked eyes with her.
Alinna’s expression froze.
She looked at the Divine Emperor of Death looking at her as though he were mesmerized. Her heart sank as she couldn’t help but wonder if the husband had different ideas from his wives.
’This...’
Meanwhile, Davis was totally caught off guard as his Karmic Sight was triggered.
Reflected in his eyes were Alinna’s limpid eyes, but beyond that was her soul. He looked deeper and deeper into her soul essence and saw a bundle. This bundle was made up of threads, ones he had familiarized himself with just now.
Deep inside Alinna’s soul essence, he saw this scarlet bundle.
It made him freeze as though he had seen a whole world. In his subconscious, he could sense the Scarlet Destiny Spindle in his grasp give off vague echoes as though it were active. He wasn’t surprised since it wasn’t completely broken. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have generated the thread when Tia used her physique’s powers.
In a trance, Davis couldn’t help but stand up and reach out his hand to touch her forehead with his finger.
In the next second, fragmented images that appeared to be memories flooded his mind.
I was a child again. The courtyard stones were cracked, the walls leaning, but I clutched my wooden stick like a sword. My arms ached, my hands blistered, but when I swung, I imagined I was invincible. My parents watched from the doorway, tired from their day’s work, yet smiling with pride. Their warmth was my first strength.
The world lurched forward. I was ten, knees scraped raw as I flew up the mountainside. The laughter of the village adults cut at me, but I wouldn’t cry. I refused to give them that. I pushed forward, heart pounding, each step a vow that one day I would stand above them all.
Time shifted again. I stood in the training halls of my sect, my body trembling as I repeated the same form again and again. My instructors’ voices were harsh, sometimes cruel, but I endured. Every fall, every bruise, every bone-deep ache... I swallowed them all. If I cried, it was only when no one could see.
Then came triumph on a sunny day. A tournament stage. The cheers of my sect shook the skies as I cut down my peers one after another. My parents’ faces blurred with tears as they clutched each other in the stands. For the first time, I felt I had repaid their love. For the first time, I believed I was truly destined to rise.
I grew up faster. My sect favored me more than I expected.
Shadows in the form of bandits fell upon me- only they weren’t mere bandits. Their movements were too sharp, their eyes too cold. Supreme geniuses, hiding behind masks of savagery. I fought, my power soaring seven levels higher, but my sword snapped, my knees struck earth, and despair strangled me as shackles bound my wrists.
The darkness of chains followed. I was paraded as a commodity, gazes burning with greed and filth. I wanted to die then.
But then... there was light. The emblem of the Moonsmile Family was like a ray of hope that pierced that darkness. Their member stepped forward, their eyes filled not with lust but recognition, even pity, but deep inside, I could see a mocking intent. They paid. They bought me back. And with it came the chains of debt- only gentler, but no less binding.
And so I became an attendant. My steps were measured, my voice obedient, and my smile faint. Yet deep inside, I yearn for freedom even at the cost of humiliation. I only hope that it doesn’t go too far. The purple-robed person in front of me holds my fate. I wonder... if I will be ruthlessly sullied today...
Reflected in Davis’s eyes was no longer Alinna’s limpid eyes but himself, who looked like a demon.
His pupils dilated as he looked down and saw that he had bosoms. He felt like he was in the body of a woman. However, the vision turned blurry before he returned to his own body, looking at Alinna in a dazed manner.
’This...’
Davis’s mind reeled as he wondered what the hell just happened.
Did he invade her memories, or had he possessed her?
