Dragon Genesis: I Can Create Dragons

Chapter 370: They’re retreating…?

Chapter 370: They’re retreating…?

Kael hovered in the sky behind the Flying Unit he was commanding, acting like the second last line of defense.

Yes, second last,

He trusted the last line to his little Vita.

The plan was simple, the Flying Unit under his command would take on the enemies, and he would support them from behind using Illusion, Ancient Pulse, and normal Human Magic. Every time an enemy flew past his men or any of his men were having a difficult time,

He would jump in and deal with the matter.

And if, in case, some of the Stonefangs still went past him and shot towards the granary…

Well, honestly, Kael just pitied them since that would give Vitaria all the excuse she needed to ‘play’ with them.

Till now, Kael had made sure none of the Stonefangs met this fate. His Vita was quite dissatisfied about this, but he had no other choice—he would rather not leave a permanent mental scar on these people.

After all, these people might seem like enemies, but in truth, they were humans.

Imperia had sent her into their tribes before to learn about them, and he knew just how much these people were suffering.

They weren’t attacking because they enjoyed death and destruction. They attacked because it was a necessity.

If they didn’t, their people would all starve to death.

In the end, it was all about survival—that was just how brutal the living conditions in Ashen Heights were.

“You! The one on the Frost Eagle! Do not break the triangle!

Keep the formation tight!”

Kael ordered, finding flaws in his men’s formation and telling them to fix it, while he himself continued to observe everything calmly.

But then—

“VOR’SKAN DROKH!! ZOL DRAAK AAN SHAAR’GUL!!”

He heard a loud, rough voice.

It was the Stonefang Chief. Kael didn’t understand the words, but he could feel the shift that followed. The air changed, and the enemy’s Flying Unit—the very same group that had been pushing hard against his defensive formation—suddenly pulled away.

Kael frowned.

“They’re retreating…?”

He muttered under his breath as he narrowed his eyes.

But something felt off.

Kael wasn’t an experienced leader, but he still knew a few things. Retreats were usually messy. People usually stumbled, their formations broke, all in all, things became even more chaotic than usual.

But this…

This one wasn’t.

The Stonefangs turned together, pulling their flying beasts into tight, fast arcs.

Very quickly, Kael also noticed that the only ones retreating were the Flying Unit. The Unit led by the Chief was still moving past the Vines and was facing Velmourn Bombardment, and the Ground Unit facing Lavinia showed no signs of backing down either.

Something felt wrong…

And soon, Kael noticed something.

The Flying Unit…

They weren’t retreating—they were moving towards Lavinia!

His heart skipped.

“Shit…”

He cursed.

They weren’t retreating—they were redirecting!

He looked over his shoulder. From the distance, he saw Lavinia, still casting spells from Igni’s back. The sky above her was clear for now, but if the entire enemy Flying Unit rushed her—

“She will be surrounded,”

He clenched his fists when he thought of that possibility. His calm eyes sharpened as he glared at the enemy chief. For now, however, he ignored the man and—

And then—he moved.

In a flash, he burst forward, cutting through the air like a bolt of lightning. The sudden gust he left behind threw off the Flying Unit he had been commanding. They blinked, stunned, watching him streak ahead in this manner.

“L-Lord Kael!”

One of them shouted.

“Do we follow!?”

Another questioned.

But Kael’s voice rang out before they could move.

“Stay in position! Hold the line! If they change direction again, don’t let them pass!”

“But sir—!”

“That’s an order!”

Kael snapped.

And then he was gone.

The enemy Flying Unit never saw him coming.

And when they did—

“VETH’MAR!!”

{Look out!!}

It was already too late.

The first warrior, riding a crow-like beast, barely turned before Kael slammed into him from above. He grabbed the man’s braid and yanked him clean off his saddle, sending him plummeting to the vines below.

“RAAAAGGHHHHH!!”

{AAAGGHHHHH!!!!}

The Stonefang screamed in fear as he fell.

“Drokh’dul vekhda!!”

{The Flying Man is here!!}

Another Stonefang shouted and, in an instant, Kael became the center of attention as the Stonefangs had no choice but to slow their advance towards Lavinia.

“GRAAAKH!!”

{DIE!!}

One of the Stonefangs hurled a spear at him from the right.

Kael twisted in the air. The spear grazed past, and before the attacker could ready another, Kael shot forward and kicked him off his beast. The winged wolf he had been riding yelped and fled downward, trying to save his rider.

“Shaar’tar dul!! Grah’tak zul’kaan!!”

{Attack him together! Charge at him all at once!!}

The enemy Flying Unit Commander, Zaakerr, shouted.

Of course, Kael had no clue what these people were shouting, and he didn’t care. He simply needed to react to their movements.

When he saw all the Stonefangs jumping at him, he simply let himself fall before Cirri created a wind step beneath him, allowing him to stand.

And then—

“Cirri, you are the best!”

He praised.

“Hehe~”

The invisible Cirri laughed adorably. She even moved the wind, making it gently brush her father’s face.

With the father and daughter together, they had absolute control over the skies—it was almost impossible to defeat them.

Kael’s movements were much, much quicker, even when compared to the enemy’s Winged Beasts. And because of their large builds, the Stonefangs were much weaker in air than on the ground.

This gave Kael absolute advantage in the battle—

He danced through the air, faster than anyone expected. His movements were smooth—almost too smooth. Dodging spears, grabbing riders, knocking them out one by one.

He didn’t kill them, but he was damn sure that it was going to hurt.

“SHAAR’TAR!! SHAAR’TAR DUL!!”

{ATTACK! ATTACK HIM!!}

Another two came at him from opposite sides.

“Father! Two from the sides!”

Cirri informed him like the good, responsible little daughter she was, creating the necessary air steps her father was going to need.

Kael spun midair, letting their weapons strike nothing but wind. Then, he slammed his elbow into one’s chest, sending the rider gasping for breath as he tumbled down. The other tried to flee—but Kael was faster.

He caught up, grabbed his ponytail, and pulled him away from his beast.

“GAAARRRGHHHH!!”

{AAGGGGHHHHH!!!}

The rider screamed in terror, desperately swaying his limbs as if that would help him fly. Kael momentarily stopped when he saw that. The Stonefang’s scream made him wince—he was attacking a human, not a monster…

But still… he could not let them pass.

He still needed to protect the Velmourns and their granary. He needed to stabilize his position here. He needed to prove himself. Only then would he be able to get a stable footing.

It was… something he had to do.

“SCCCRREEEEEEEECCHHHH!!”

The rider’s beast screeched, instantly diving down, trying to save his rider. Kael did not stop it either. He wasn’t here to kill—his only goal was to stop these people until the reinforcements arrived. Once they were here, the Stonefangs would have no choice but to retreat.

For now, Kael targeted the rest. Even Zaakerr, the enemy’s Flying Unit Commander, seemed no different from normal troops and could only helplessly fall as Kael appeared next to him and pulled him away from his beast.

“G-Gaar… vekhdaal zul!?”

{H-How is he doing this!?}

“Vorrak! Vorrak! Zul’dal shaark!!”

{Move! Move! Dodge his attacks!!}

“Vekhdaal drokh?! Draak’mor dul!? Vaar… vaar zul’kash?!?”

{He flies how?! Is he beast!? Where… where are wings!?}

“Nar’vak! Shaar’tar dul!!”

{Stop talking! Attack him!!}

The Stonefangs shouted in panic as more of their warriors were thrown from the skies.

Kael didn’t stop.

He weaved through the sky, passing under wings, above claws, flipping through tight spaces as if the air itself was helping him move. Cirri covered the entire area, making sure none of the enemy took her father by surprise.

When she felt like it, she even attacked a few of the Stonefangs, making them lose their balance and fall on their own.

“Father, those six will come at you!”

She informed him as another group of six tried to surround Kael. He responded by diving straight at them.

His speed caught them off guard. He used one of their own beasts as a springboard, launching himself off its back and knocking two of the riders together midair. They crashed with a grunt and dropped.

He grabbed the next one by the collar and swung him into another incoming rider—both tumbled down, screaming.

That made seventeen.

Another three charged from above, swinging their axes and chains.

Kael ducked under the first strike, twisted sideways to avoid the second, then shot upward between them—kicking one into the third and sending them spinning.

Twenty.

He even grabbed their chains. It seemed like a useful weapon to grab and pull the opponents toward him. For now, however, he coiled it around his fist, making his punches more painful.

More and more enemies appeared around him, making the situation even more chaotic, but that only made Kael shine even brighter. After all, he was the only being who could see and react to everything that was happening around him.

He moved with clarity, like this was where he belonged—in the sky, fighting together with his Cirri.

To the Stonefangs, he was a storm they couldn’t stop.

Even Lavinia, busy on Igni’s back, stole a glance.

“That idiot,”

She muttered, smiling despite the chaos.

“He’s fighting all alone.”

“Don’t worry about Father. Cirri is with him.”

Igni muttered, having absolute trust in his sisters.

Yes, sisters. After all, Cirri wasn’t alone—Vita too had followed Kael and was casually walking on top of the Vines that troubled every single Stonefang. Currently, Vita was having her fun with the Stonefangs Kael threw down.

The ones who passed out were actually lucky. As for the ones who stood up and prepared to fight again…

Well, for them, the vines became their worst nightmare.

“GAAAAHH!! VESH’TAR DUL’MAKK!!”

{AAGHH!! SNAKE BIT MY ROOT!!} (“Makk” is crude slang in Stonefang for male genitals.)

“ZUL’RAAK NAR!! SHARR’GUL!!”

{I AM BEING TIED DOWN!!}

“ZUL’TAAR VEKH’MOL MAA!!”

{THEY ARE GOING TO COOK ME!!}

“SCREEEEEEECHH!!!”

Yes, the Fox didn’t leave the poor beasts who came down to protect their riders alone either.

“Fufufu~”

She was having a lot of fun~
