Chapter 1537 1537: Rule Change

As with the first trial, Adam and Alexia were not required to defeat a powerful enemy, gather resources, or destroy a barrier with a particularly powerful attack.

They were given a condition that they had to fulfill.

In the last trial, they knew they had to collect the Glowing Tips, but it was only with time that they understood where to look for them and that their real goal was the golden spiders.

Now, the Ancient Voice told them all the rules directly.

The stone cannons appeared in the previously empty arches, and the blue light appeared deep in the barrels when the first cannonball flew out, crashing directly into Adam.

'So now I have to catch it and throw it into the portal?' Adam thought as he covered his hands with a thick layer of energy.

He didn't know how powerful the cannons were, so he decided not to take any chances.

Cutting through the wind, the cannonball moved forward, passed through the barrier, and crashed right into Adam, who was already in the right stance.

Like an athlete catching a ball from an attacker, Adam clenched the cannonball tightly in his grip, while the cannonball continued to spin and drag Adam to the side.

Dark lines remained on the ground from Adam's boots as he stopped just a few meters from the barrier.

His fingers were trembling. If he hadn't covered his hands with energy, the cannonball would have torn his skin.

"Alright, now it's my turn!" Adam exclaimed before turning around and taking a throw.

He could throw into any of the three portals, so he chose the middle one.

The cannonball flew out of the barrier and hit the portal exactly.

Adam and Alexia waited for confirmation from the Ancient Voice, but instead, a muffled sound came from above.

One of the multicolored glass panels covering the dome lost its light and went completely dark.

At that moment, it was difficult for them to count every glass panel, but there were about a hundred, maybe a little less or a little more.

"I like this!" Alexia exclaimed happily. "I love it when these damn rules work!"

SHOOT!

Two stone cannons fired simultaneously as Adam and Alexia immediately decided who would catch which cannonball.

Crash.

Their backs collided as they held the two balls tightly in their hands.

The last three mirrors that had opened for the first shot were now cloudy again. However, four new ones opened for this throw.

Adam and Alexia threw simultaneously. Each chose their own portal. They didn't know what would happen if they decided to throw two cannonballs into the same portal, and didn't want to find out.

When the two cannonballs disappeared into the portals, Alexia smiled broadly.

"Hell yeah! Now that's more like the trial!"

Adam glanced up as he nodded slightly. Two more glass panels went dark, meaning they were one step closer to victory.

However, he wasn't rushing to celebrate. Something was bothering him.

"Hey, Silvana, is this really the trial... isn't it too easy?"

Before Silvana could answer, four stone cannons fired at once.

Adam and Alexia weren't expecting this, so they were only able to catch two. The remaining cannonballs crashed into the platform and disappeared.

At the same moment, a mechanical voice rang out:

They weren't entirely sure what that meant, but soon they saw the two dark panels light up brightly again.

"I see..." Adam's voice dropped as he threw his cannonball into the open portal. "So if we can't catch four cannonballs at once, we don't stand a chance?"

Adam and Alexia looked at each other.

It seemed like they should be confused, because catching four cannonballs at once was much more difficult than two, and they had to do it if they wanted to win.

They just grinned as four-pointed stars appeared in their left eyes. Black iron gloves covered Adam's hands, and Alexia summoned her gauntlets, her Nexus.

Now, not only were they both faster and stronger, but they no longer had to worry about the cannonballs hurting them.

Over the past three rounds, they had learned what to expect from this trial, so from that moment on, they were only going to pick up speed.

The stone cannons gradually increased the speed and power of their shots. This trial was not easy, but since Adam and Alexia understood what they had to do, nothing but victory awaited them.

Adam looked up, seeing the round glass panel in the very center of the dome. It was the last one.

"One more and that's it?" he asked himself.

The largest stone cannon shook as the cannonball charged with blue energy burst out, crashing into them like a comet.

"This one's mine!" Alexia jumped high into the air as she grabbed the cannonball with both hands.

However, she didn't calculate its power as the impact continued to drag her sideways.

"Wait, wait, wait!" She exclaimed internally, realizing that she would soon fly beyond the barrier.

Adam's hand fell on her shoulder as he directed his energy to his feet.

"Calm down, this is the last throw, we have to do this together."

She nodded as they looked at the last portal.

Hovering in the air, they made their throw as the last cannonball disappeared into the portal.

Simultaneously, they landed and looked up, watching the last glass panel slowly fade away.

To their surprise, the barrier around the platform fell, and they heard the Ancient Voice.

[You did it. The second trial has passed!]

They couldn't believe what they heard and couldn't hold back their smiles.

Suddenly, the mechanical voice changed to an irritating squeak. The Ancient Voice tried to recover, but it could no longer utter a single intelligible word.

"What the hell is this?!" Alexia exclaimed, covering her ears.

Silence.

For a moment, there was silence.

And soon, they heard the Ancient Voice again.

[Following the rules, the second trial begins!]

"What the..."

Adam's eyes widened as the glass dome shattered into myriad fragments falling before their faces.

Red light reflected in the shards emanating from the eyes of the stone demons.

The trial that did not exist a few minutes ago now awaited them. It was to be the last one, for them, not for the Frost Oasis.
