Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking

Chapter 842: Origin Heaven Tablets

Chapter 842: Origin Heaven Tablets

Cedric had to make a choice before going into the nebula…

Well, technically, he doesn’t. It’s just that for the sake of saving time, he has to determine which complete Origin Law he should comprehend before stepping inside the nebula. Angelo didn’t force him to do this, nor was it required, but Cedric, being who he is, wants to be prepared before doing anything.

’Fire, Sword, Space’

Cedric had three of these to choose from. Amongst all of the concept laws he comprehended so far, it’s these three that he had used a lot and had been with him even before arriving here. It’s also these three that saw a lot of progress first.

So, if there were any laws for him to choose from to start comprehending Origin Laws, it’d be these three.

But the question is…which one?

Dividing the 40 days of comprehension time he accumulated so far amongst these three wouldn’t be right. He has too little time, in his opinion, to be doing that. He thinks that it’s better for him to pick one and focus on it first.

Angelo saw him in a dilemma but didn’t say anything.

Cedric wasn’t the first one to face this. There had been many others before him. He already gave him advice; that’s as far as he could go. Doing anything further would be interfering with Cedric’s agency.

As for Cedric, he looked back on his past.

He started from the very beginning. And by that, he meant the very beginning…during the time he lost his parents in the accident, his awakening ceremony, his time at the Risk Management Center, the moment the Godking’s eyes fused with him…

He then opened his eyes, and they shone with clarity. He has made a decision; that much was obvious.

Angelo saw this and asked, “Step inside whenever you’re ready. I’ve already told you what to do.”

Cedric glanced at him and gave him a brief nod before boldly stepping into the nebula where the Origin Heaven Tablets swam.

The instant he stepped inside, he was momentarily struck and dazed.

He felt small…so small, like an ant looking up at the sky for the first time. He felt overwhelmed, weak, and extremely vulnerable. He thought that he was already close to the peak, yet he’s immediately proven otherwise.

The feeling was both disheartening and exciting at the same time.

He then recalled Angelo’s advice. He sat cross-legged in the nebula and called out using his intent. He communed in this way through the swimming tablets darting around in his vision.

A sharp whistling sound emerged from him. One that felt completely out of place within this nebula.

Then, in a blink of an eye, a tablet appeared before him.

On its surface was one diagonal scar, one that seemed as if it were a spatial rift.

As he stared at it, Cedric felt a prickling sensation stabbing every single cell of his body. It was so sharp that it’s threatening even without meaning to.

And this becomes even more prevalent when he uses his divine eyes to study it. It’s so grand that he could even see glimpses and shadows of the one who left this scar.

Unbeknownst to him, he fell into the state of enlightenment. His sword intent flared, clashing and harmonizing with the one being exuded by the tablet.

Yes, this was Cedric’s decision. He picked the Origin Sword Laws to comprehend first.

The sword has been beside him since the beginning. The class template he awakened was the ’Swordsman’ template. It didn’t make him special, but it did give him a fighting chance.

Even before he got the eyes of the Godking, he was already using the sword. If he hadn’t been struggling hard and fighting with his all, he would’ve long died even before he miraculously fused with the eyes.

Cedric hasn’t forgotten; he never could and never would. It’s the sword that has been with him the longest, and it saved him on numerous occasions. Therefore, if there’s any concept law that deserves his loyalty, it’d be the Sword Laws.

And just like this, hours and days passed.

’…up.’

’…wake up.’

’…wake up! ’

’WAKE UP!! ’

BOOM! SPLASH!

Cedric inhaled sharply and gasped, then a strong force pulled him out of the nebula, and he shot out as if he were spat out by a waterslide.

He blinked a couple of times. Then, he saw Angelo’s amused expression.

Cedric was speechless. He then looked at his hands; he also felt empty and dull, as if he just forgot that he was doing something important.

“It’s been 40 days already?” he asked Angelo, surprising himself with how hoarse his voice has become.

“Yes. Don’t you dare say I cheated you. That’s beneath me.”

“No, of course not…it’s just…wow, I thought I’d already gotten used to how fast time flows when you’re occupied with something.” Cedric hollowly chuckled.

“True. How very true.” Angelo nodded sagely. “Alright, out you go. You must come back here after 100 years and go on a trial again. Keep at it!”

After saying this, he saw Angelo pushing his palm forward. Then, he felt a gentle force pushing him out of this realm. He steadied himself but didn’t resist.

He then passed through the curtain that hid the core inheritance zone and landed on the outer area again.

At the very least, he landed on his feet.

He also saw the others who came with him, but not all of them. A few were missing. He didn’t know their names, just their faces. And he’d most likely never see them ever again.

This sobered him up.

’I passed that trial swimmingly,’ he thought to himself, ’but it’s not going to be like that every time.’

’The trial was designed to be harder and harder the more we clear it. Eventually, it’ll become hard enough even for me.’

’And now, just like the others, I’m on a time limit as well. Every 100 years, I need to return there and accept the trial. I have to literally fight for my place here.’

’If I succeed, then the path to peak remains open. If not, then this clone goes to the other side. Hell, maybe even the main body does. With how mysterious and powerful everybody is here, I’m certain that someone already knows that this was just a clone, and it also wouldn’t be surprising if they somehow had a method to drag my main body here and force me to accept the actual punishment.’

’They might even have the power to kill me even without appearing before me.’

Cedric knew that he’s not wrong to assume the worst. With the things he had seen so far in here, it’s better to prepare for the worst rather than underestimate what they could do.

Shaking his head, he began making his way back to his tiny little shelter he created.

His steps were filled with urgency, as if someone was chasing after him. He stopped paying attention to others.

It’s not that he’s being snubby; it’s because the urgency extends not only due to the challenging future here, but also because he hasn’t digested his gains from the Origin Sword Law Tablet yet.

He could feel his sword intent thrumming at the back of his skull, threatening to go out of his control if he doesn’t start paying attention to it soon. More importantly, he also felt like he’d start losing every insight he gained from the tablet if he were to delay even more.

That is why he’s in such a hurry that he’s practically flying back to his shelter.

The others saw this and were reminded of their first time as well. In fact, he’s proving to be more disciplined than most of them since when it was their turn, the majority of them practically sat down immediately as soon as they left the inheritance zone after spending their time rewards.

They’re used to it now, of course; that’s why they didn’t have to hurry out anymore. Besides, their gains become lesser the longer they stay.

Obviously, it’s different for Cedric. Especially considering that he had used 40 days at once.

One must know that others couldn’t even get that much in their first time in the trial. Cedric was one of the very few who did.

The first time was usually where everybody gains the most because not only do they get to witness an Origin Law face-to-face for the first time, but they also get a glimpse of how every law essence must be positioned or fused to complete the picture.

This last part is especially special because it was the true door to gain the recognition of the particular origin law they’re after, and it’s the clearest when seen for the first time.

That is exactly why Cedric was in a hurry. Bless him for having multiple thought chambers working at once because if it weren’t for that, he wouldn’t have had the patience to return all the way to his shelter. He would’ve sat down as soon as he exited, just like many others did before him.

Hell, even the main body was affected, and his other clones weren’t faring any better.

He had sealed himself completely, preventing any form of distraction. He couldn’t afford to pay attention to anything else now that he’s like this.
