Chapter 2223: Mutants

Chapter 2223: Mutants

"Hey, you’re pretty damn smart," Alma nodded, winking at Drake.

"What? You thought I was stupid or something?!" Drake sighed, shaking his head.

"Hahah, relax big guy, it’s alright~!" Alma giggled, patting his large arms. "Ooh~ you’ve got big arms, huh? How jacked are you?"

"I don’t think this is the time for you to flirt with me..." Drake sighed.

"I’m not flirting!" Alma blushed a little, becoming angrier.

Despite being a woman with three children and a relationship with Hermes, she still liked flirting a little with other men... or women, if the opportunity arose.

This was just Alma’s personality from her previous life, as she... or rather, he, used to be quite the pervert.

Although liking guys now was something new in her second life as a woman.

"W-Whatever! Anyway, don’t you think there’s something wrong with this?" Alma said. "I just have some sort of... hunch."

"I know what you mean," Drake nodded. "Look, the zombies are becoming fewer, but the distortions are increasing and growing larger. I think something’s coming. I can feel larger and stronger supernatural presences."

"Supernatural?" Alma asked, and then her eyes widened. "Wait!"

RUMBLE!

From the dimensional holes in space leading to the zombie-ridden city, a powerful supernatural presence suddenly emerged, stepping forward.

"So this is the world beyond these holes..."

"What... sort of thing... is this?"

"A new world... to conquer..."

"Hmm... that damn Esper girl ran here? I can’t see her..."

Four figures appeared, mutant monsters overflowing with Psychic Energy, Esper Mutants, the strongest threats one could encounter on Earth, according to Chris Bluefield.

"Hmm? Our horde...! It’s almost annihilated?!"

The first to speak was a large mass of tentacles with a giant, pulsating brain covered in crimson eyes. It had no mouth, nose, or ears, and yet it could speak. Surrounding it was an invisible, gray aura of psychic power.

"No... these are... hmm... fresh meat?"

The second of the four, which seemed the dumbest, was a burly mass of red muscles covered with hard black bone plates resembling scales. Its head was only its lower jaw, with a single crimson eye on top. It had a red psychic aura.

"Hahah... yes... so there is really another world! And look at these... delectable..."

The third was the tallest of the four and somewhat insectoid, although clearly once human. Its exoskeleton was made of bronze-colored bone plates. Its head resembled a mutation, as if a bug’s head was growing out of a human, skinless face, utterly horrifying. Two of its six arms had very long, sharp scythes, while the other two had elongated fingers.

"Where is she? Hm?! There she is! Wait, that’s not her, but it’s still the one I want to eat..."

The fourth was the most "average" of the four, about the same size as Chris Bluefield, covered in bony plate armor of crimson and bronze. Its face was like a mask of the same colors, with glowing red eyes beneath and a pair of sharp horns growing from its head. It seemed average but appeared to be the strongest, its aura dwarfing the other three, their leader.

"No way! Are they here already?! And I thought we lost them!" Chris Bluefield said.

"You..." Jake muttered, his face twisting into anger.

"Damn it," Lucia sighed. "Well, thank God we’re not alone now. We’ve got plenty of strong allies."

"Well, what do we have here? Are you looking for someone?"

The four mutant Espers faced the King of Dragons.

His presence overflowed with divine power as he looked down at all four of them from above.

"Hm? A blue human?"

"No... he has scales..."

"Scales? A mutant like us?"

"Not at all... he’s not from our world. He’s an alien of sorts..."

"I am surprised you’re taking things so lightly, hahaha! By any chance, did you know about all of this beforehand?" Drake wondered.

"Everyone that was once an Esper knows..."

"The world convergence... it has begun..."

"So we’ll claim this world... for ourselves..."

"Yes... we’ll do that."

"That so?" Drake wondered.

FLASH!

At that moment, all four mutants appeared in front of him, leaping into the skies, their psychic power overflowing from their bodies, clashing against him together.

CLAAASH!

All four mutant Espers attacked him at the same time, their psychic auras brimming with immense power. Chris Bluefield and his team gasped, imagining that Drake would have taken a strong blow.

And yet...

"...?!"

"What?!"

"Impossible...!"

"T-This is...!"

All four Mutant Espers gasped in disbelief as they saw Drake completely unscathed.

There was no barrier.

He had no aura.

There wasn’t even armor covering his body.

Just his own skin, his own clothes.

"What’s wrong? Was that supposed to be your strongest attack?"

"Y-You’re...! What are-"

BAAAM!

Drake gave no mercy, slapping the insectoid Mutant Esper down with a single slap to the face, sending the beast plummeting and nearly cracking the bridge’s floor, making it tremble instead.

"G-Gaaack...! Aaaggh...!"

The thing was barely alive, its head twisted the other way, gasping for air and vomiting blood everywhere.

"Oh yeah, you’re tough alright. You survived that. Well done."

"...!"

"..."

"...Ugh!"

The other three Mutant Espers quickly realized the immense difference in power between Drake and them.

Instead of trying to take down the "top dog" together, they decided their next move would be to run!

All three of them tried to escape into the sea. Drake saw them flying and, with a flick of his finger, acted.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

FLAAASH!

His aura erupted, encasing everything within a white bubble. His domain, a barrier, and his aura were one.

The three mutants hit the barrier’s walls but were unable to dent it.

Although the more they hit it, the more it seemed to weaken.

Yes, despite everything, they were strong and possessed that strange "force" of Earthlings that made them so unique.

It would be better if he took them down quickly, but that would bring him little fun or entertainment.

Instead, wasn’t this a perfect time for them to fight a strong opponent?
