Chapter 220: Stopping
Chapter 220: Stopping
Countless thoughts raced through Liora’s mind as she worked to make sense of the situation.
At the end, she arrived at a somewhat unexpected but quite simple conclusion.
“Is my bloodline transforming? It’s just that it needs to devour more World Origin to ’fuel’ its transformation?”, she couldn’t help but wonder.
The moment this thought arose, Liora decided to put it to the test.
Without hesitation, she reached out and scooped another handful of World Origin before pouring it into her mouth and letting it flow down her throat.
The familiar sensation of losing emotions and merging with the world around her soon assaulted Liora’s senses.
However, perhaps because her bloodline had been prepared or perhaps because she had already experienced it not long ago, she quickly recovered.
Returning to the dimly lit room, Liora noticed that a slightly larger part of her blood had turned gray.
At the same time, the number in the Race column had changed.
[Race: Unknown Bloodline / 2%]
Just like she had predicted, the percentage had jumped from one to two percent.
This indirectly confirmed her previous guesses.
Her Unknown Bloodline was indeed about to undergo a transformation, and all she needed to do was supply it with energy. Or to be more accurate, all she had to do was devour more World Origin.
Realizing this, Liora no longer hesitated. Immediately, she reached out, grabbed another part of World Origin, and took a “bite” out of it.
Then another, and another.
The percentage on the System Panel skyrocketed as a result.
From two percent, it quickly jumped to five, then to ten, and continued.
Liora seemed to have lost control over her body.
She devoured the World Origin mechanically, like a machine working tirelessly to perform its task.
She originally believed that her bloodline’s transformation would soon be completed.
However, her movements paused abruptly.
Staring at the world around her and glancing at the rapidly declining World Origin, she sighed, her reluctance abundantly clear on her face.
Though unwilling, however, Liora knew that she could no longer devour any more World Origin.
Not because she didn’t want to, but because the world had begun to get affected.
Evidence of that was that the space had become even less stable, while the amount of energy in the surrounding world had declined significantly.
“The World Origin is the energy that powers a world. After a certain portion of it disappears, the world itself will be affected.”
“If it is a mid-level world, it will downgrade to a low-level one, while if it is a low-level world, it might be destroyed completely.”
This was exactly what was happening right now.
Since Liora had devoured almost half of the total World Origin, the world had begun to grow close to extinction.
As a Devil and a non-native of this world, Liora did not have any emotional fluctuations towards this.
She had personally witnessed the death of many creatures, and her bloodline memories contained images of countless destroyed worlds.
Hence, she didn’t stop because of this. Rather, she stopped because it was not time just yet.
“Although the Zerg Hive and the Beast Emperor have been dealt with, there are still several things left hanging. The True Devil, the Will of the World, as well as that person…”, Liora whispered.
Casting a final glance at the cluster of World Origin, she waved her hand and engraved a formation to hide it and protect it, ensuring that no one would find it while she was gone.
After doing this, her mind moved. Her figure turned blurry before becoming an afterimage and finally dispersing.
Following a flicker, she left this place.
Only the weakened World Origin remained floating alone in the room, its glow weaker than ever before.
—
With Liora’s strength, the world of Knights was akin to her backyard.
The distance that had once seemed endless to her now looked extremely short. With just a step, she could reach any place in the world in just a heartbeat.
Therefore, it didn’t take long for her to reach her destination.
It was a city with high walls and composed of many luxurious buildings.
Perhaps it was a coincidence, as it was the same exact city that Eleanor had arrived in not long ago. And, perhaps even more surprisingly, Liora’s destination seemed to be the recently built imperial palace as well.
No one stepped forward to block her way.
Though she passed right next to the guards, they completely ignored her existence, as if they were unable to capture her figure.
And that was indeed true.
With her power, it was fairly easy for Liora to prevent a bunch of True Knights from noticing her.
Walking through the palace, Liora walked slowly with her hands clasped behind her back. She casually admired the scenery, not in any rush to meet the person she was looking for.
She passed through the colorful gardens, heard the maids’ playful laughter, and glimpsed the solemn expressions on the guards’ faces.
Unfortunately, whether she was willing or not, it did not take her long to reach her real destination.
Arriving in front of a large gate, she gently pushed it open and stepped inside.
It was a large hall. Several marble pillars embroidered with gold supported its high ceiling, as chandeliers fell down and cast long shadows across the room.
Such luxury was unexpected but not surprising. In fact, it was truly fitting with the rest of the palace, a palace seemingly created to house the royalty.
However, Liora’s eyes did not stay on these mortal items.
The moment she stepped into the room, her gaze landed on the familiar woman sitting at its center.
With long flowing blonde hair and a pair of gem-like eyes, she wore a long dress and stared back at her.
Liora recognized that this was the person she had been looking for, the first person she had met upon her arrival in this world, as well as the person who had directly brought her descent.
