Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 257: Alpha’s Thoughts

Chapter 257: Alpha’s Thoughts

But the next moment, many overlapping voices erupted.

Some of them were cheerful and excited, while others were filled with hatred and envy.

“Good job! Well done!”

“Idiot! If you can’t win, can’t you take your opponent with you?”

“I bet four Soul Stones on your win, trash! I’ll find your family and devour their souls after this!”

A chaotic atmosphere spread in the audience seats.

This could not be said to be a rare occurrence.

The Demon Colosseum existed exactly for this reason.

It acted as a place for Devils to no longer suppress their instincts, thus making it easier for them to follow the city’s rules.

The moment after the cheers erupted, a humanoid Devil appeared on the stage.

He looked at the two collapsed Devils for a brief moment before he opened his mouth and spoke:

“Glasnar has overpowered Telken and achieved a record of twelve consecutive wins!”

“Now, he shall receive his reward!”, his solemn voice spread throughout the Demon Colosseum.

Standing high in the stands, Liora saw that the moment he finished speaking, many Devil Runes appeared on the arena’s surface.

Other people might have failed to detect them, but being a True Devil and being familiar with Devil Runes, their emergence was quite obvious to Liora.

As these Devil Runes were activated, an invisible power emerged and descended onto the dead Devil.

Immediately, their lifeless body began to disintegrate.

Before Liora’s eyes, the entire body of the dead Devil disappeared, replaced by a single drop of black liquid that floated towards the victorious Devil.

Liora was slightly surprised when she first witnessed this process.

But very soon, she understood what was happening.

Clearly, the Devils who stepped into the arena would receive a reward upon winning.

That reward was quite simple: the essence of their opponent, including their blood, flesh, and soul.

The method used to achieve this was quite straightforward.

Even Liora could set such an array up if she wanted to.

In fact, let alone her, even some knowledgeable Little Devils could if they had a chance.

For example, the Soul Devil that Liora had once met had used the weakened version of this array to trap a bunch of Young Devils in the past.

Just as Liora was staring silently at the array, something surprising occurred.

From the opposite side of the stands, an aura surged and an inexplicable force spread, falling towards the arena.

The force was very weak, but the moment the victorious Devil sensed it, his eyes shrank.

“No! No! I can still fight! I can still win a couple more fights! Don’t kill—”

Before he could finish his words, though, the inexplicable power had arrived.

Instantly, the male Devil’s body dissipated just like his opponents, transforming into another drop of black liquid that merged with the previous one.

As it grew stronger, the black droplet paused for a moment, as if it had been confused.

But the next moment, it received a command.

With a flicker, the droplet soared into the sky and rushed towards the place where the aura had previously surged.

Then, with a sudden turn, it flew down and landed on an unknown Devil.

As the droplet entered their body, the Devil’s power was strengthened. His body squirmed, and it was obvious that they had received various benefits.

The people around them were surprised at first, but soon, they woke up and realized what happened.

“It’s the right decision. That person could no longer fight. In fact, it’s very likely that they would lose in the next round.”

“It’s better to kill this slave and obtain all the benefits. It doesn’t matter if they die after all. Such trash is expendable.”, a Lesser Devil commented from the side, nodding their head repeatedly as if praising the unknown Devil’s smart decision.

The same held true for the Devils around them.

Not only did they not find their decision strange, but they instead wished to be in that person’s place.

Though she was standing far away, Liora immediately saw this scene and understood what happened.

The victorious Devil was obviously this person’s slave and had been forced to participate in the Demon Colosseum in order to obtain resources.

Now that he had been injured and no longer had any use, his “master” had decided to harvest the benefits before it was too late.

“But it makes sense. Unless someone is desperate for resources or they’ve gone insane, they will not enter the colosseum for no reason.”

“After all, each battle is destined to end in someone’s death.”, Liora whispered.

But the moment her words fell, her expression became a little strange, and she became speechless.

Turning her head, she glanced at Alpha beside her, only to find that she was staring straight ahead without so much as blinking her eyes, her gaze glued to the arena below.

Though she tried to hide it, it was obvious that she was quite interested in the fight.

And that interest was not that of an ordinary observer.

“Do you want to participate?”, Liora questioned.

A flash of hesitation flashed across Alpha’s face, and she remained silent for a few seconds, but she ultimately shook her head.

“There’s no need. Doing so will ruin the Lord’s next plans and alert our enemies. There’s no reason to make trouble.”

“Moreover, I’m not so interested in participating.”, she responded.

To these words, Liora shook her head.

Even if Alpha tried to deny it, she could sense her true thoughts and understood the reason behind them.

During their trip to the world of Knights, Alpha’s power had improved quite a lot, and she could now easily suppress her former self.

But still, she had yet to become a Lesser Devil.

She still needed to find an opportunity.

At other times, Alpha might have chosen to wait it out, as it was only a matter of time before she advanced.

But having witnessed the events of the world of Knights and having arrived in Bloodflower City, a place filled with powerful beings, her yearning to become more powerful was now stronger than ever.

At the very least, she felt that she had to reach the peak of the Lesser Devil stage and become useful to Liora instead of acting as a glorified information gatherer.

Alpha didn’t voice these thoughts aloud, but Liora had keenly sensed them.

Thus, she was not surprised by her interest in participating in the Demon Colosseum.

Perhaps for her, this was the opportunity she had been waiting for to advance further.

“There’s no reason to overthink it. If you wish to participate, then just do it.”, Liora stated, and before Alpha could argue, she added:

“Moreover, who told you that participating in the fight will ruin my plans? If anything, it might speed the process up and save us some waiting time.”

Saying this, Liora turned her head to the side, her gaze landing on a place deep underground.

Though she could not see what was going on in there, she could sense a particularly powerful aura that was deep in slumber.

Its power far surpassed the Lesser Devil stage, and its owner was a True Devil.

For a True Devil to stay in the city, their identity was obvious. They were one of the six Lords—one of the city’s six rulers.
