Evolution of the Ruined Heir

Chapter 281: Aftermath

Chapter 281: Aftermath

“Bloodflow.”

Rhett’s aura detonated like a bomb, cracks webbing outwards from the weight of his presence. Streaks of red ignited across his body like blazing fire as his eyes flashed an intense red.

Bloodflow was the most basic technique of the sanguine clan. It brought about the same effects, however, there was a huge difference in output depending on who was using it.

For a Genesis, it enhanced their body, they became able to move faster, punch harder. The same was for a Bloom. However, there was a major difference.

A Genesis stage was a little more like a super soldier. But a Bloom… was a calamity.

Rhett’s arm exploded forwards as he punched.

Boom!

The punch struck the veil like a meteor. The ground beneath his feet shattered, collapsing in ripples of destruction.

A violent wave of force surged outward, racing back across the ruined forest. Even at their distance, Laila and Grunde were forced to shield themselves with their aura, bracing against the shockwave.

As the vibrations settled, Laila and Grunde released their auras to get rid of the dust engulfing the area. Their eyes landed on the aftermath.

The ground Rhett stood on had sunk for many meters. He looked like he was in a massive crater. Still, their eyes soon turned from him and focused on the dome.

The booming impacts from inside had gone silent. All that drew their eyes now was a thin crack at the exact point where Rhett’s punch had landed. A single crack… but in seconds, it spread like wildfire.

The fissure webbed across the massive dome until it covered every inch of it. Then, like striking fragile glass, the entire structure shattered.

The scene they saw froze their hearts. Their eyes slowly widened and Laila and Grunde fought to stabilize their trembling limbs. Even Rhett’s eyes couldn’t help but narrow.

The dome had covered a span of more than a kilometer, a vast land that was supposed to be filled with trees and wildlife.

Only now, it wasn’t filled with anything. There was no ground.

A single deep, yawning pit whose depth was unknown had replaced the vast land. It was immense, like a hole spanning kilometers.

But none of them looked at the pit. Their eyes were locked on the sky.

High above, suspended in midair, were two figures, held up by an incalculable number of blood threads.

The crimson strands streamed out from every inch of their bodies, from their skin, from their eyes. Under the morning sun, each thread glinted faintly, writhing as if alive.

Above them, a massive, pulsing mass of blood connected to the threads, feeding and binding them.

’They’re still alive,’ Rhett realized as his eyes found the source of this brutal scene. She was closer than expected, having been by the edge of the dome.

It was obvious, a battle had just taken place here, one between Blooms. Between calamities.

The odds had obviously been stacked against her as there were two Blooms in the sky. Which meant she had battled two Blooms simultaneously, yet there wasn’t a single thing out of place on Nyx’s figure.

Her clothes were untouched. There was no blood, no injuries. No bruises. The only thing that flooded the air around her was the overwhelming killing intent.

The moment the dome went down, it flooded the entire ruined forest. Rhett’s eyes constricted and he took a step back, body tense.

’The Red Eclipse.’ He’d heard stories about her back when he and Valerian were together.

The stories had always felt exaggerated to Rhett, but somehow Valerian believed them. He’d wanted to find and bring her under him but had been unable to, no matter how far and wide he searched.

Regardless, now, Rhett couldn’t help but admit. ’The stories were never exaggerated.’

Laila and Grunde were even far worse despite the distance. They each felt their hearts slow as their blood was taken under control. They were unable to move.

Nyx hadn’t moved an inch from her position, yet she seemed like an ancient beast on the verge of erupting.

She glanced at each of them one after the other. She recognized them, but her killing intent did not wane.

But the moment her eyes landed on the blood dome beside Laila and Grunde, the killing intent dispersed like smoke in the wind.

Nyx vanished from her position and appeared in front of the blood dome. And to Rhett’s shock, she forcibly took control over the dome from him, and opened a hole just big enough to see Malakai.

She saw the sunken cheeks, the healing bruises scattered across his body and then the blood. Nyx clenched her fist so hard that her aura became far too heavy for Laila and Grunde to bear.

’I failed.’ Tears threatened to spill from her eyes.

“He’s going to be fine! Release your aura!”

Nyx’s head snapped towards Rhett. He was looking at her coldly. She narrowed her eyes.

“They’re not responsible for this. Calm down.”

At his words, she glanced towards Laila and Grunde. They were both struggling to stand. She realized what he was talking about and released her heavy aura.

She gave Rhett a curt nod and turned back towards Malakai, cupping his cheeks.

Laila and Grunde breathed heavily, feeling the control of their bodies returning to them. They sent a wary glance towards Nyx.

She’d always been in Malakai’s shadow during these past weeks, but they each seemed to forget just how powerful she was. She was the Red Eclipse.

“We have to move.” Laila finally choked out. “The city’s in on it. We can’t afford to stay here in the open.”

Rhett had expected it, but was still shocked to hear her say it. After all, they had given their squad a fake mission.

“I know I’m not exactly well liked by the others, but surely it’s not to this extent, right?” He still didn’t know what exactly caused this incident. Why was the city after them?

Laila sighed heavily and began to recount the events. Their discovery at the Murkroot Hollow. Malakai’s analysis, and all the way to this ambush.
