Chapter 323: Like This?
Chapter 323: Like This?
Seraza’s mind refused to think.
Through the piercing pain from her shattered mouth, she struggled to form thought. She was unable to determine the how, but she knew what had occurred.
She had been punched. Just one, single blow had left her in this state. Bleeding on the ground, disoriented and wracked with pain.
Despite her current state, she still tried to stand.
Every single Sanguine warrior that had a hand in Seraza’s prowess held different views about her, some called her crazy, mad. Others, determined, battle crazed.
But there was one trait that had never failed to be mentioned by all: stubbornness.
Once she had a target or goal, Seraza never gave up, even if her body broke. She shakily rose from the ground.
Her blurry vision began to clear, and her brain started working. She replayed all that had occurred in the past seconds.
’I didn’t see him move.’
Seraza realized. She had assumed the first time he passed her without her knowing was a fluke. But this… this wasn’t a fluke. Malakai was faster than her. No, faster than her eyes could follow.
’How did he get so strong?’
Barely two days. It had been barely two days since they clashed. The boy had been struggling to simply keep up with her. What the hell happened?
’Is this how he survived the grade three?’
A grade three had spawned and interrupted their battle. Seraza had been pissed, but had taken it as the cue to escape.
If she had to be honest, she thought it impossible for Malakai to survive, but had only hoped.
But not only was he alive, he had gotten unreasonably stronger too. Seraza clenched the hilt of her grade three broadsword so tightly her knuckles cracked.
She felt exhilarated that he was now stronger. She had never been one to enjoy battling weaker opponents. However, this current situation grated at her nerves.
’He’s not even looking at me.’
Malakai had just punched her, shattered her mouth, and sent her flying across the room, yet he hadn’t even glanced at her. His scrutinizing eyes were still fixed on Renlo.
It was a scene that made Seraza’s eyes blaze. She might be mad and crazy, yes, but there was one thing she would never do, disregard an opponent she had already recognized.
And neither would she ever tolerate it.
“Bloodflow.”
Seraza’s eyes flashed crimson, veins lighting up across her body like flares. The clamor of the outside world blurred until it vanished from her ears.
At that moment, all she saw was Malakai. And all she wanted was to tear him into pieces.
“How dare you!”
Seraza dipped, the floor beneath her cratering as she blasted forward. Her broadsword fell toward Malakai with such force that the air howled in its wake.
Even as her scream tore across the room. Even as her broadsword came inches away from splitting him. Malakai never took his eyes off the boy on the table.
A flash of green light, and Seraza felt a heavy force slam against her blade, parrying it aside.
’What!?’
She had barely seen him move. Had he even equipped his weapon? Seraza forced her beating heart to a stop.
’Move.’
The thought thundered in her head and her eyes blazed.
She felt the blood roaring through her veins, the rush, the power.
She stomped forward and halted her momentum. Power surged through her legs. She was about to spin when a hand gripped her neck.
Seraza was off the ground before she even realized, held tightly by her throat. No air reached her lungs, she struggled for breath.
Her heart thumped wildly, pumping more blood through her. She felt her power surge and she screamed, trying to pry the grip open. But it was iron. It didn’t budge.
’Shit!’ She gasped, eyes bloodshot as they widened.
Her gaze found the cause of her misery. Malakai. His arm was stretched out, gripping her neck tightly, yet somehow, his eyes still hadn’t left the boy laying unconscious on the table.
Seraza had never felt so much anger surging through her entire life as she did in that moment. She screamed, but only guttural sounds left her mangled mouth.
’Shit! Shit! Shit!’ Seraza kicked and thrashed, then remembered her blade still strapped to her arm.
’I’ll kill you!’
Her hand whipped out, blade tearing toward Malakai’s side. It was then that he finally turned toward her.
For a breathless moment, silence ruled as their eyes met. Seraza’s were bloodshot, filled with unrelenting anger. But Malakai’s were… calm?
Seraza couldn’t understand it. Just seconds ago, Malakai’s eyes had been filled with nothing but anguish and sadness. But now… everything had vanished, replaced by an unnerving calmness.
’No. It’s not calmness.’ Seraza realized. It wasn’t calmness, it was… certainty.
Her world tilted, throwing her attack off course. The ground found her back the next moment, knocking what little air she had left from her lungs.
Seraza gasped. Her body rebounded from the impact, but a foot slammed against the side of her face, darkening her world before she could react.
She slammed headfirst against the hard wall. The white was stained crimson.
“He did nothing to deserve this.”
Malakai’s voice was akin to a volcano about to erupt. He walked toward Seraza with the gait of a predator that had its prey cornered.
Despite her battered state, a chuckle left Seraza’s lips. It grew until she laughed.
“Th–that stupid… boy… he s–screamed… while we… r–ripped his limbs off…” she wheezed between ragged breaths.
“M–mommy, he… c–called out… He even… c–called for you…”
“He screamed…”
Seraza’s eyes narrowed. Malakai’s words sounded… close. Too close.
Her gaze widened the instant she felt him grip her right arm. His words fell like a bomb.
“Like this?”
She could do nothing as Malakai pulled. Bone cracked, muscle tore, and with a sickening rip her arm was wrenched clean from its socket. Blood sprayed, her scream tearing through the room.
“Fuckkkkkk!” Seraza’s screams were piercing. Her blood pooled beneath her as she thrashed on the floor. But the pain had barely settled when Malakai’s voice came.
“He begged…”
Malakai gripped her other arm, slamming his foot against her chest to hold her down.
“W-wait… d-don’t! Plea—”
“Like this?”
He pulled. More bones cracked, muscles stretched, and then her other arm was ripped clean from its socket.
Blood sprayed like crimson geysers. Seraza roared so loudly the noise from outside was drowned out.
She thrashed around the room, painting the floor red. She couldn’t think, couldn’t plan. All she wanted was to escape this monster.
Bam!
Her thrashing brought her back, slamming against the table where the unconscious boy lay. But her bloodied eyes trembled as she saw Malakai walking calmly toward her.
“He called out his loved one…”
She tried to run, but could barely stand. Malakai’s hand clamped around her throat and raised her up. As he gripped her thigh, Seraza’s body shook.
“Like this?”
“M-mom…” she choked out, just as Malakai pulled.
Bone splintered, flesh tore, and her leg ripped free in a spray of blood. Her scream echoed, but Malakai’s grip around her throat only tightened, silencing her.
“I dare you to run your mouth again.”
Silence.
Seraza didn’t dare speak. She was bloodied and broken. Mucus, blood, and tears covered her face. But none of it dimmed the coldness in Malakai’s eyes.
He brought her closer, his voice like death itself.
“I’ll carve my vengeance into your bones.”
Seraza shuddered, but before she could react, Malakai’s fist flew forward like torrents of missiles, slamming into her face with meaty bangs.
Each impact landed like miniature explosions. Blood splattered across the room. Seraza’s face deformed instantly, becoming unrecognizable. But Malakai didn’t stop. His gaze was like steel, his fists relentless.
Images of Renlo flashed in his mind. His sunken cheeks, his weary look. His altered body.
Renlo had been through so much. So fucking much, and he hadn’t been there.
Malakai’s fists flew even faster. Bones cracked, teeth shattered, skin split open. Blood and fragments sprayed with each strike.
He would kill her. He would kill every single one of the bastards that touched him.
His eyes flashed red, fist exploding forward with unstoppable momentum. But just as it was about to land, a shudder ran through his body.
He used Oxyflow, ramping up his perception to the maximum extent. The world slowed. His thoughts raced.
Right now, a figure had locked onto him and was tearing straight toward the room.
’A Bloom.’
He had less than a second.
Malakai’s bloodied arm blurred down, reaching into the sack at his waist. From it, he pulled out the three grade three vita cores he’d asked Nyx to acquire earlier, and threw them into his mouth.
Not letting go of Seraza, Malakai threw himself on top of Renlo just as the figure burst into the room like a streak of crimson light.
Konim’s eyes shone like twin infernos as he surged toward Malakai. He had seen the scene the moment he entered the white hall.
Seraza was on the brink of death, and the one responsible was none other than Malakai, who had suddenly thrown himself over the boy on the table.
Konim’s killing intent flooded the room the moment he entered.
He would kill him.
His arm whipped out to grab Malakai, but just before contact, the already slow world stilled.
’No. I’m slower.’ He realized.
He was about to wonder how, when Malakai’s body exploded in an intense green light. Pure vita filled the underground base.
