Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 435 A Problem

Chapter 435: Chapter 435 A Problem

[Attempting to copy random skill from tamed creature…]

[Chance: 20%]

[Rolling…]

[SUCCESS.]

You have successfully copied a skill from your tamed creature [Wisdom].

Skill acquired: [Phase Shift – Basic Mastery – Proficiency: 1.0%]

Michael stared at the glowing notification in disbelief.

Then blinked.

Then stared some more.

“…Am I dreaming?”

Michael looked down at his hands like they might start melting or glowing or burst into confetti. Nothing happened. His room was still his room. Wisdom was still an owl.

But seriously—first try?!

Michael slowly raised a hand and slapped his cheek.

He winced.

“Yep. That hurt. Damn it, this is real?”

For a long second, Michael just sat there, staring into the void like a man questioning all known laws of probability.

Because in his world, a 20% chance meant you’d fail four times, get bitter, swear at the gods, try again, fail twice more, and maybe—just maybe—get lucky on the seventh try.

He had tried this out of faith. Blind, stupid, hopeful faith.

Michael was mentally prepared to wait a year.

Instead?

Boom.

[Phase Shift] acquired.

He let out a soft laugh that bordered on unhinged. “Okay. Okay, I get it. This is the part where my luck peaks and everything crashes tomorrow, right?”

Michael stared back at the panel.

[Phase Shift – Basic Mastery – Proficiency: 1.0%]

It was real.

He had teleportation. Sort of. At Basic Mastery, but still.

“…If this keeps up, I might actually believe I’m the main character.”

Michael paused.

Then narrowed his eyes.

“Nope. That’s exactly the kind of thinking that gets you killed in the next Chapter.”

He tapped his temple. “Stay humble.”

Still, he couldn’t wipe the grin off his face.

Michael leaned back on the bed, hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling with the contentment of a man who’d won the lottery by tripping and falling on the ticket.

“Guess we’re leveling this bad boy up, huh?” he said aloud.

Michael then turned his attention back to the [Taming] skill itself.

Now that he had successfully copied a skill, he expected some sort of cooldown on the entire function—but to his surprise, only the “copy” portion was grayed out.

The “teach” portion of the ability was still available.

“Huh,” Michael murmured, eyes narrowing slightly.

So the cooldowns were skill-type specific. That was interesting.

Copying was on a five-day lockout.

“I could teach it something?” he muttered, glancing sideways at Wisdom.

The owl tilted its head.

It was tempting…..

But in the end.

“Later,” Michael muttered, mentally shelving the idea. “When I know more.”

Instead, his thoughts shifted toward mastery.

[Taming – Basic Mastery – Proficiency: 2%]

This was only the beginning.

Basic Mastery.

What would happen at Intermediate Mastery? Advanced?

If Basic already allowed him to form spiritual contracts, copy and teach skills, and tame up to five creatures, then the next levels…

“Ten creatures?” he wondered aloud. “Better odds?”

More proficiency = better perks?

But how does he raise it?

Michael didn’t have a clear answer.

He’d only used the skill once—and it wasn’t like [Taming] was something you could just spam.

But if using the skill at all counted toward its growth…

Then every successful bond, perhaps every teaching attempt since copying was in the grey for now—they should all contribute.

“Fine,” Michael muttered to himself. “Then I’ll grind it. Just like everything else.”

However, he figured he’d need to return to Aurora to research a bit first.

Michael’s eyes drifted to the panel again.

Five taming slots.

He’d already filled one.

Four to go.

Michael had no plans to tame more beasts at the moment, but unfortunately, he was greedy for the skill’s other function.

And that brought his thoughts back to his undead.

Technically, they were his, created by him, bound to his soul, and fully obedient. But they weren’t tamed in the truest sense of the word.

The bond he shared with them wasn’t one of spiritual harmony or mutual agreement. It was more like a master-servant connection that was closer to a master-subordinate relationship.

This subtle difference might just be the key that makes [Taming] work.

Michael didn’t hesitate.

He summoned Spartan—his undead High Human mage.

A magic circle flared on the floor, and Spartan emerged, clad in his usual black armor with a hood drawn low over his face, concealing his features in shadow.

There was nothing new to observe. Michael hadn’t summoned him for conversation.

Without wasting a moment, he activated [Taming].

As he did, a surge of instinctive knowledge rushed into him—the same way all system skills worked. He didn’t need to be taught. He just knew.

And so, he followed the flow.

Michael stepped forward, eyes fixed on Spartan.

His hand hovered slightly in the air, fingers spread, as though reaching for something not quite visible. The knowledge that had rushed into his mind when he activated [Taming] guided his actions.

A faint glow gathered around his palm. Unlike the dark energy that surrounded his necromantic summons, this one pulsed with a strange silver-white hue.

Spartan didn’t move. He didn’t flinch, resist, or react.

He simply stood there, expressionless behind the faint shadows of his hood.

Michael pressed forward, palm glowing as it touched the chest plate of the High Human.

Michael felt a pull. A flicker of something foreign brushing against the edge of his spirit. It wasn’t the full-force merging like when he bonded with Wisdom.

It was a bit different. But something oddly felt familiar.

It was like déjà vu.

There was a strange feeling of resonance.

Michael’s brow furrowed.

There was no resistance.

In fact… things felt easier.

The glow on Michael’s palm intensified for a moment, then sank into Spartan’s armor and vanished with a quiet shimmer.

A soft chime echoed in his mind.

> [Taming successful.]

Tamed Creature: [2/5]

Undead High Human.

Michael froze.

Normally he should have a smile on his face thanks to his success at casting the skill.

However.

“Why has my connection with you weakened?”
