Extra's Death: I Am the Son of Hades

Chapter 699: The Divine

Chapter 699: The Divine

Jack shook his head slowly.

“No. That’s not it. He knew our names. He targeted us directly. Someone like him shouldn’t be defeated just because of carelessness.”

Amelia’s lips pressed into a thin line. She didn’t want to admit it, but she agreed.

“You’re right. Something feels wrong. Even if he didn’t expect Venyth, it’s strange he didn’t defend himself properly.”

“Well, not many people know my actual ability,” Felix countered. His voice was steady, but there was a hint of defensiveness in it.

“Maybe. But someone like him should still know to you could kill anyone if your bullets land. It feels… off,” Amelia said.

The three of them fell silent for a moment.

Amelia’s senses prickled suddenly.

She stiffened, and her head snapped upward before she even realized she was moving.

Her body froze.

Jack noticed her reaction and followed her gaze.

His eyes widened as he took in the sight above them.

A blood-red sun hung in the sky.

Its surface churned as if it were alive, pulsing faintly with a steady rhythm.

“Did your World have a sun…?” Jack began, but the words died in his throat.

Because there wasn’t just one sun.

Far from their location, another blood-red sun burned in the void.

Its glow wasn’t warm or distant like a star should be.

Instead, it was sharp, focused, and heavy, as though it were staring directly at them.

Jack’s lips parted slightly.

The air was frozen in his chest.

Something about the suns felt wrong. Very wrong.

“They’re not suns.” Amelia’s voice trembled, though she fought to keep herself calm. “Those are eyes.”

Her hand clenched tightly.

She forced herself to look toward the headless corpse of the invader that still stood frozen where it had fallen.

“His eyes.”

Jack stiffened instantly.

A cold sensation spread through him.

He closed his own eyes for a moment, expanding his senses outward with force.

At first, there was nothing.

Just the battlefield, the lingering traces of power, and the shadows of his summoned undead that had yet to fully dissipate.

But then he pushed further.

And he saw it.

The entire Solar System was floating inside the palm of a hand.

And from above them, that massive being was looking down on them with those red, sun-like eyes.

Jack’s mind raced.

Had they been fighting a clone this entire time? Or was it some sort of projection?

If that was true, how had they failed to notice something large enough to hold the Solar System in its hand?

“Ah.”

The thought hit him suddenly, and the pieces fell together.

“He isn’t big,” Jack whispered, voice flat with realization. “He turned us small.”

The words felt absurd even as he said them, but they made too much sense to ignore.

Scale had been shifted.

Their reality was twisted, and forced into a smaller frame so the truth had been hidden until now.

But how?

By what kind of power?

A deep, resonant voice broke into his thoughts, cutting through the silence that hung over them.

“Your Akashic Record has evolved quite spectacularly,” the invader said. “It now contains countless simulated futures.

“When your world is on the verge of destruction, the Akashic Record imposes one of those simulated futures over reality itself. In other words, it replaces reality.”

Jack’s heart sank.

Amelia’s hands trembled slightly as she gritted her teeth.

She didn’t want to look up, but she couldn’t stop herself.

The sight of the Solar System held casually in his palm made her stomach twist.

“The Womb of the Devil… the Akashic Record,” the invader continued.

“It is quite sturdy, indeed. It even survived my earlier attack. And then, it rewrote what happened by superimposing a simulated future onto the sealed region within the Sky Barrier.”

Amelia’s chest rose and fell unevenly.

She knew all of it already, but hearing him explain it so casually made her blood run cold.

He had understood the principal of their strongest weapon already.

“Of course, the rewriting isn’t perfect. Nullhour Firmament still remains with me, as you noticed. That much cannot be undone.

“But the mechanism is an excellent life-saving technique.

“If used properly, it can even resurrect your planet so long as you act quickly enough.”

Jack’s jaw clenched.

He could feel his fingernails biting into his palm.

It was true.

They had relied on that Akashic Record more than once, and it had saved them.

But hearing him explain it like a game mechanic, something he could dissect and toy with, filled Jack with dread.

“While it is good, have you ever stopped to wonder what might happen if someone hacked the Akashic Record?”

Jack’s blood chilled.

Amelia’s eyes flickered, widening with alarm.

The invader’s gaze sharpened.

He looked down at the Solar System still resting in his hand.

Then, with nothing more than a flicker of will, he changed it.

The image shifted instantly.

Thousands of Earths appeared, filling his palm, each one identical to the last.

Jack’s breath caught in his throat.

Amelia face became pale.

“This,” the invader said, his voice resonating through the void, “is what happens. I can control all of you. Your fate, your death, your life, your destiny. All of it rests in my hand now that I have seized control of the Akashic Record.”

His fingers closed slightly, and several of the Earths cracked, splintering apart before vanishing into nothingness.

The sound of their destruction echoed.

It was a sickening reminder of how fragile they were in his grasp.

Jack’s fists shook violently.

He forced himself to speak, his voice low but steady.

“You… you’re saying every life, every outcome is just something you can rewrite at will now?”

Although the Akashic Record had such ability, they could never use it by will.

The ability only worked when the Earth was destroyed.

Until now.

The invader’s lips curved into something that might have been a smile.

“Exactly. Every possibility, every strand of destiny. You were so eager to rely on the Record’s protection. But you never considered what would happen if someone stronger than you claimed it.”

The thousands of Earths vanished, leaving only the original one floating in his palm once more.

The invader studied it, then slowly raised his gaze back toward them.

“You should only use something like this if you are prepared for the consequences.”
