Chapter 719: Devils And Their Singularity
Chapter 719: Devils And Their Singularity
The guard leading them nodded slightly, confirming Jack’s words without turning his head.
They followed him through the palace grounds until the gambling den’s noise dimmed behind them.
He led them down a broad hallway lined with crystal lanterns, then up a stairwell to a quieter floor.
At the end of the hall was a large room that had been turned into a high-end bar.
It wasn’t crowded like the gambling den below.
The atmosphere here was calmer, meant for private meetings and expensive tastes.
Tables were spaced generously apart.
The air carried faint music from a piano at the far end.
The guard stopped and gestured. “This way, sirs.”
Before they entered, he handed each of them a small metal charm, whose surface was engraved with faint runes.
“What’s this?” Jack asked.
“An artifact. Master requested you wear them. They will disguise your appearances from prying eyes.”
Neo studied the charm for a second, then slipped it into his pocket before activating it.
A thin ripple ran across his skin, and he knew anyone looking wouldn’t see him as Neo Hargraves anymore.
Jack did the same, adjusting his collar afterward with a quiet shrug.
“Better than walking in with everyone staring at us,” Jack muttered.
Inside, the bar was dimly lit, elegant, and clearly built to impress.
And sitting casually at one of the tables near the balcony were the two ’men’ they had come to see.
Felix, though at the moment not in male form.
Today he had taken a female form, dressed in a deep purple one-piece with an open back that revealed smooth pale skin.
Her hair was swept to one side, and her eyes gleamed with playful sharpness.
Unsurprisingly, several men had already approached her, trying their luck with drinks in hand.
Beside her sat Arthur.
Unlike Felix, Arthur wasn’t drinking or speaking to anyone.
He sat with his arms folded, back straight, and expression neutral.
His presence was quiet but carried weight all the same.
Compared to Felix’s relaxed charm, Arthur looked like he didn’t belong in such a place at all.
Neo frowned slightly. How can the two of them sit out here in the open like this?
Felix is only Stage 2. As for Arthur, he’s a Devil. His existence doesn’t crush weaker people unless he wills it. Jack’s voice brushed against his mind through telepathy.
Neo nodded faintly, but his eyes stayed fixed on the pair.
Felix noticed them then.
Her smile widened.
She leaned closer to the men lingering around her, whispered something, and they dispersed reluctantly. She
waved her hand toward Neo and Jack, her voice carrying clearly.
“Welcome, Neo, Jack. It’s been a long time since we met.”
Arthur’s eyes shifted toward Neo.
He gave a single nod, acknowledging him without words.
Neo and Jack approached the table.
They sat down across from Felix and Arthur, returning the greetings.
“It really has been a while,” Neo said.
For a moment, silence hung between them.
Felix reached for the glass on the table and poured everyone a drink.
She swirled hers lazily, then lifted it with a smirk.
Jack leaned closer, his eyebrows rising. “Huh. This…”
“It’s good stuff,” Felix said with a grin. “I took it from the Karven and the Xilos in exchange for completing their hit request. They didn’t want to pay me in coin, so they offered me their liquor stash. Turns out it was worth more than the money.”
Jack gave a short laugh, shaking his head.
Neo didn’t say anything at first.
He watched Felix, wondering how much of her easy manner was genuine and how much was a mask.
Then Felix’s smile faded slightly.
She set the glass down and looked at Neo directly.
“Sorry about what happened yesterday. You came back suddenly and attacked Earth, so none of us were able to react properly. I hope you won’t hold it against us too much.”
Neo exhaled through his nose. “It’s alright. I was too aggressive. It’s my fault too.”
But inside, his thoughts were heavier.
Spending thousands of years away from society had left him detached from its rhythms.
Common sense wasn’t common to him anymore.
He had destroyed Earth along with everyone on it, knowing he could revive everyone.
But a sane person wouldn’t have made that choice, even with the ability to undo it.
Felix chuckled softly, breaking the tension. “This is surprising. I can tell what you’re thinking by looking at your face. Seems you went through quite a lot, enough to make you more expressive than before.”
No sooner those words left her lips, Neo’s expression became calm.
It no longer betrayed his thoughts.
“I told you it’s not that he doesn’t have much emotions. But he hides them like a tsundere,” Jack laughed, speaking to Felix.
“So where were you all this time?” Arthur finally spoke.
“I was saving the universe.”
Arthur nodded once, as if that explained everything. “I see.”
“You actually believed that?” Neo asked.
Felix leaned forward on her elbows, amused.
“If it’s you, yes, we’d believe it. You went from Awakened Demigod to Exalted Demigod within months back in the academy.
You completed a Shadow Trial. Something everyone said was impossible.
“And then later, you scared the head of the Poseidon Clan by stopping time across an entire continent.
“All that was just months after school started. You were always the freak who pulled off impossible things,” Felix said.
“You should’ve seen him during the Shadow Trial,” Jack added with a grin. “He was a different level of freak there.”
Neo rolled his eyes but didn’t bother to argue.
“So what about you two? What are you doing these days?” Neo asked, shifting the topic.
Jack had already deployed a barrier around them, making sure no one nearby could hear.
With the privacy secured, Felix leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs casually.
“I’m a mercenary now. Thanks to Venyth, I can kill any god, regardless of rank. That’s my Singularity.”
“Singularity?” Neo asked.
Felix blinked, realizing something.
“You don’t know about that? Right, of course. Let me explain.”
She spoke quickly, almost excited.
“Every Devil is exempt from one Universal Law. That’s their Singularity.
“As Devils grow, their singularity grows stronger, and they develop more of them, all connected to their first one. Think of it like Traits.
“Honestly, I think Ultris must’ve taken inspiration for Traits from this.”
She lifted her glass again, gesturing with it as she continued.
“For me, my singularity lets me use the true power of the Blood Sea in my bullets. That’s why I can kill even Stage 6 if I prepare correctly.
“Normally, others who use Blood Sea can only handle what their existence allows, but my singularity bypasses that limit,” Felix explained.
“…You’re a Devil?” Neo asked.
Felix tilted her head, then laughed softly when she saw his expression.
“You didn’t know? All four of us who wield Soul Weapons are Devils.”
She raised three fingers.
“There are three types of Devils: natural-born Devils, artificial Devils, and those who wield demons. Since Soul Weapons are considered Neo Demons, we fall into the third category. Which means you have your own singularity too. Though…”
She gave a bitter smile.
“Considering you’re a True Heavenbreaker, you might not think singularities are special. Your innate abilities are powerful enough on their own.”
Neo sat back, stunned by the flood of information.
The revelations kept piling higher.
“How do you know so much about Soul Weapons?” he asked carefully.
