Chapter 1074: Behind You
Chapter 1074: Behind You
Jazmine consistently kept looking over her shoulder.
Ever since she woke up, she had been keenly aware of this odd sensation of someone standing behind her.
She thought it was a prank. Her father-in-law was known to pull them from time to time after all.
But no matter how much she said ‘okay, the jig is up’ or ‘I’m not joking’ Abaddon never popped out.
Then, she decided to call his bluff.
Abaddon had a high threshold for tomfoolery, but he also had certain lines he wouldn’t cross.
When Jazmine walked into her bathroom and turned on the shower like she was about to step inside, she waited to feel Abaddon flee quick, fast, and in a hurry.
But he didn’t. And that was the first time she considered that Abaddon might not be here at all.
Jazmine pulled on a pair of sleep pants and a robe before she exited her room.
Stepping out into the hallway, she curled her tongue and let out a low whistle.
She waited a couple of seconds before she heard the pitter-patter of little feet rushing towards her.
“”Mommy!!””
Askari and Reken rushed into their mother’s arms with almost enough force to knock her over.
Jazmine scooped up both of her little bundles of golden joy and nuzzled them both with her cheeks.
“Hello, my little knights. Did you have a fun sleepover with your aunt and uncle?”
The boys nodded their heads as hard as they could. Jazmine was glad to see that they were speaking better than before, even if some words would take them a bit longer to get a grasp on.
“Hey. Where’s Pee-Paw?” Jazmine whispered excitedly.
Her kids were good trackers. They could find anyone and anything rather quickly. The family wasn’t sure how.
This time, the boys looked over their shoulders like they were expecting to find their grandfather already there.
They swiveled their heads around continuously, as if they were sure Abaddon was stepping just out of sight before they could put eyes on them.
“A-Alright, that’s enough.” Jazmine put a stop to things before her kids flung their heads off. “Let’s go look for Granmmies instead, huh?”
“”Grammies!!””
The kids launched themselves out of Jazmine’s arms and started rushing through the hallway.
Jazmine followed behind them easily. She didn’t even need to run or fly after them. Instead, she willed her body to move faster.
“What are we looking for?”
Jazmine was surprised to see Belphegor walking right next to her, keeping up with her pace perfectly.
She had never seen the sloth demon moving this fast in her life.
“The hell are you doing up this early?”
“It’s not like I can sleep when I feel like my nephew staring at me underneath my blanket. Tried to tell him to fuck off, but got no answer.”
Jazmine raised a brow. “So it’s not just us and the kids then… I thought we were all being pranked.”
Belphegor’s expression became troubled.
“Do you think this is a new sex thing?”
“Excuse me?”
“Like he already knows what we’re doing. What if now he’s actually going to watch everything that we do..?” Belphegor asked in horror.
Jazmine immediately dismissed the idea. “Given the fact that he’s related to everyone in the house? I doubt it.”
“I’m going to ask Nyx and Karliah if they feel anything.”
“Christ.”
Askari and Reken stopped just in front of a set of doors they didn’t recognize.
They turned to their mother and pointed at it curiously.
“What that??”
Belphegor shook his head. “Of course, they don’t know what the meeting hall is. It’s the only place in the house without sugar or toys in it.”
True to his words, once the twins heard there was nothing they could eat or play with inside, they were no longer interested.
Jazmine had to stop them from wandering off by stashing each of them under her arm like suitcases.
She brought her foot up to the door and nudged it open.
To neither her nor Belphegor’s surprise, they found the grandmothers already inside with a version of Abaddon they didn’t recognize. But the kids did.
“”Pee-Paw!””
Askari and Reken wriggled free from their mother’s grasp and lunged across the room.
They ran over the long wooden table and jumped on top of Abaddon’s soldiers.
Judging by his expression, he died a little bit inside when he heard how the kids referred to them, but he quickly shrugged it off.
“Caught you!”
“We caught you!”
“Ah…” Abaddon made a confused expression. “Yes, you did, but I wasn’t hiding..?”
“Then why the hell can I feel you breathing down my neck?” Belphegor shivered.
“And what’s with the goddamn rock in your chest?” Jazmine walked up to Abaddon and sized him up. “…Did you get a growth spurt? Finally switch to eating your wheeties instead of ass?”
“Ass?” Reken turned his head.
Askari agreed. “Ass!”
“B-Boys, don’t repeat the things that mommy says.”
“”ASS!””
“Christ.”
Suddenly, more faces came streaming into the meeting room—the rabisu triplets and their partners, along with his father, and a very irate Darius.
The bronze dragon took one look at Abaddon’s appearance before deciding that he didn’t actually care all that much about makeovers.
“Look here, Mr. Midnight, I like you just as much as everyone else, but we gotta establish some god damn boundaries around this place! When I’m enjoying some womanly pleasures, the last thing I want to feel is your perverted ass grazing against my goddamn cheeks!”
“I wasn’t grazing anything, you dirty old man! I was just minding my business!”
“The hell you were! I finally get a chance to make something shake with Igrat, and then I go all baby carrot because you don’t know when to play jokes and when to-”
“Hold the fuck on!” Asmodeus grabbed the old man by the throat. “What the hell were you doing with my mother, you wrinkly old scrotum!?”
“N-Now hold on, let’s just talk about this politely for a moment… son.”
“Over my dead body!”
Asmodeus slammed his head into Darius’ nose and shattered the bone with ease.
A scuffle broke out in the meeting hall that no one bothered to correct. This kind of thing was better off with as little involvement from everyone else as possible.
So as the sound of blows landed in rapid, dynamic intervals, Abaddon sat down at the head of the table with both of his grandsons still in his lap.
“Well, I’m glad you all came on your own without me having to say anything to you. We need to have a bit of a chat.”
His assembled generals picked their seats and sat in them with their partners looming behind them.
Abaddon closed his eyes and tapped his finger on the table a few times. A move that his innocent grandchildren mimicked.
Within a few moments, Karliah, Hajun, and Kirina entered the room along with Satan.
They stepped over Asmodeus and Darius, who were still fighting on the floor, and either took a seat or leaned against the wall.
Now, Abaddon felt he could begin.
“First things first… I guess I should address the elephant in the room.” He gestured to himself.
Abaddon went through the same explanation he had gone through with the girls, trying to detail what had happened to him the best he could.
Removing the part of him that was made of Azathoth was the easy bit. It was explaining everything that happened afterward that was the real problem.
Because he still wasn’t fully aware of it himself.
All he could detail was that he was further along with absorbing Oblivion. Enough that it had effectively ‘eaten’ his other divinities, and now he was closer to understanding what he was, and what he was becoming.
“That’s all well and good, but why do I still feel you breathing down my neck?” Belloc grumbled. “You’re literally making me age with every second that goes by.”
Abaddon took off one of his grandchildren’s shoes and hurled it at his son’s head, knocking him out.
“Babe!!” Audrina punched him.
“A-Accident, I swear!”
Truly, Abaddon didn’t know his own strength now. He had given that shoe a light toss, but it sounded like he hit Belloc with a bomb. He was going to be extra cranky whenever he woke up…
“I guess that brings me right to my next point… I’m… growing? In ways I can’t currently predict. But my current crossing of your boundaries is proof of that.”
“In what way?” Jazmine leaned forward.
“Nevi’im are supposed to be immortal, but you all know full well there may not be any such thing. The reason you can all feel me at your back is because I am the eventual end that follows everything. I’m trying to stop it, but for now… I just need time.”
“Don’t be in such a rush. I like feeling you against me.” Karliah winked.
This time, it was Bekka’s turn to punch her mother in the neck, and she began a second dynamic brawl.
Once again, no one even looked in their direction.
“This brings me to our second order of business…”
Abaddon placed his hands over the boys’ heads and made sure to stare into the eyes of everyone at the meeting.
“After the trial today, everyone needs to leave the house. You must take your armies too.”
