Chapter 2293 - Fu Jiang
Chapter 2293 – Fu Jiang
In the eyes of the general populace, Master Gods were like rulers of the nine heavens, lofty and unattainable. They could only gaze upon them from on high.
To other deities, Master Gods represented the pinnacle of power within the Divine Dao. They controlled Undying Laws and stood proudly over the heavens.
The death of a single Master God was enough to cause widespread uproar. The impact was shocking.
Yet now, six Master Gods, including Sect Leader Liang Lingxu, had died at once, but neither Su Yi nor Zang Wushu reacted at all.
The way they saw it, Master Gods could be divided into various categories based on strength, and the ones they’d just killed were no more than ordinary Master Gods.
Even the strongest of them had only overcome eight Dao-Refining Tribulations. Why make a big fuss about nothing?
“That strike was really quite something. It reminded me of you at your peak,” exclaimed Su Yi.
Zang Wushu rolled his eyes. “A casual strike, that’s all, yet you’re heaping such lavish praise on it. It’s obviously insincere.”
Su Yi laughed. “What, am I not even allowed to compliment you?”
“When will I be able to beat the crap out of you?” asked Zang Wushu. “That’ll be far more satisfying than hearing your insincere praise.”
Su Yi laughed. “I’m far weaker than you now.”
“I disdain bullying a Mid-Rank God,” said Zang Wushu. “Come back when you’ve stepped into the Undying Realm. I might well be willing to play with you then.”
This was Zang Wushu: direct and fiercely proud. He only saw those he acknowledged as his fellows.
Those he didn’t acknowledge, he simply overlooked.
Many of his enemies of the same level criticized his proud, confident conduct, saying he acted like others didn’t even exist.
Even when he first met Li Fuyou, Zang Wushu did as he pleased, his pride on full display.
Su Yi laughed. “You might not need to wait until I’ve become a Master God.”
Zang Wushu was stunned, but just as he was about to say something, he turned his head.
The tightly shut doors slammed open, and a group entered the hall.
The leader was Second High Elder Bai Liyin. She was accompanied by Grand Elder Wei Zhong and Ninth Elder Tie Wenjing.
There were several others, too. All of them were experts of the Grand Elder’s camp.
The group included three Master Gods in total!
They barged in with furious momentum, forcing the doors open, but when they saw the scene inside the hall, they froze in astonishment.
The air was rank with the stench of blood, and the floor was covered in rubble. The defensive formation had collapsed, and even now, wisps of destructive power permeated the air.
And Su Yi was the only person they saw standing amidst the carnage.
His robes were whiter than snow, completely untarnished.
Zang Wushu still stood beside him, but no one could sense him.
Even so, the sight of the hall came as a huge shock to these new arrivals!
The atmosphere seemed to solidify. Everything fell deathly silent.
“What are all of you doing here, Grand Elder?” Su Yi exclaimed.
Wei Zhong took a deep breath. “I… I heard that the sect leader brought you to the back mountain, and I was worried he’d treat you unfairly, so I immediately went to the Second High Elder for instructions. We came here to save you. We just didn’t expect…”
His words trailed off.
The carnage of the grand hall was clear proof of what had just happened!
Xiao Jian, meanwhile, stood amidst the blood and rubble, entirely unharmed. That was unquestionable proof that it was the sect leader and his allied elders who’d met with disaster!
“Xiao Jian, what happened here?” The look on Bai Liyin’s beautiful face darkened.
Su Yi sighed. “It’s just as you think. As you can see, Liang Lingxu and the others are already dead.”
Boom!
Uproar ensued. Everyone’s eyes widened, and their bodies quivered. Xiao Jian seriously killed the sect leader and those old-timers on the back mountain!
The reality of the situation made their minds go blank.
It was just as Wei Zhong had said. They’d come here to help Xiao Jian for fear that the sect leader was oppressing him.
Who could have imagined that when they rushed to Xiao Jian’s aid, they’d discover that he was the criminal who’d murdered the sect leader and a whole group of the sect’s old-timers?
How did he do that? Could it be that the sect leader was right all along, and that there was a problem with Xiao Jian’s identity?
For a while, the group just stood there, their expressions shifting and uncertain.
“Xiao Jian!!” Bai Liyin roared in fury, her beautiful face ashen. “To think I’ve always admired your talent, and even urged the sect leader to make an exception and promote you to vice palace master of Wandering Night Palace. To think you were a villain with malicious intentions all along!!”
Her aura was terrifying, and her eyes were icy. “I don’t care why you did this. Your crimes are unforgivable. You are now the irreconcilable enemy of Qingwu Divine Court. We’ll see you dead!”
Her voice was full of staunch conviction.
Tie Wenjing said hurriedly, “High Elder, might you give Xiao Jian a chance to explain himself? After all, what we’re seeing isn’t necessarily the full picture. Perhaps Vice Palace Master Xiao…. Had his reasons?”
Su Yi looked at Tie Wenjing in surprise. He’s still looking out for me even now? How rare!
“You’d best shut your mouth!” shouted Bai Liyin. She glared at Tie Wenjing coldly. “If I recall, it was you who brought Xiao Jian into the sect. Any more out of you, and I’ll punish you without mercy!”
Tie Wenjing stiffened. He was just a Greater God. How could he possibly withstand the imposing pressure of an Eight-Tribulation Master Goddess?
His heart and mind shook to the point that he could no longer speak.
“There’s no grudge between me and Qingwu Divine Court, and I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to plot against you,” said Su Yi. “But if you don’t believe me, that’s fine too. All I can say is that Liang Lingxu and the others are already dead, and that you’d best take a step back.”
His advice left the group startled. It’s true! Both the sect leader and those old-timers are dead. If violence breaks out, how could we possibly be a match for him?
Bai Liyin said icily, “We’d be fighting for the sect. Even if we die, what of it? Besides, my master is still in the sect to oversee things!”
As she spoke, her robes billowed around her, and her qi rumbled and boomed.
But just as she was about to attack, a sigh rang out. “A’Yin, step back.”
A seemingly youthful man with gray hair appeared out of nowhere, and a formless pressure spread throughout the hall.
The crowd was initially stunned, then excited.
This new arrival was none other than one of the sect’s living fossils—Fu Jiang!
A Nine-Tribulation Undying Realm Master God.
He was one of two Nine-Tribulation Master Gods in Qingwu Divine Court. The other was Hua Hongzhen.
Throughout the years, Fu Jiang had lived deep in seclusion. It had been almost thirty thousand years since he’d last emerged.
Yet now, here he was!
And Bai Liyin was his disciple.
When she saw him, she reacted as if he’d found her pillar of support. She said furiously, “Master, Xiao Jian...”
“I already know what happened,” Fu Jiang said warmly. “Step back for now.”
With that, he glanced at the space beside Su Yi. The others might not have been able to sense him, but Fu Jiang could most certainly see Zang Wushu.
“No wonder the boy is so domineering. So, it turns out he’s got Fellow Daoist Zang as his backer,” Fu Jiang said coolly.
“You’re mistaken. I’m most certainly not qualified to become his backer,” Zang Wushu said expressionlessly.
He’d been discovered, so there was no longer any point in hiding himself. His figure came back into view.
The crowd stirred. Everyone was astonished. They were only just now realizing that Xiao Jian had a terrifying figure like Zang Wushu accompanying him!
When word of the battle of Skybright Mountain spread, Spear Demon Zang Wushu returned to the public eye.
Who wouldn’t have been astonished to see him now?
“Is that so? Did I perhaps misjudge the situation?” Fu Jiang looked at Su Yi once more.
Su Yi sighed. “Fu Jiang, long time no see.”
He had a strange look in his eyes, and his voice was rueful.
Fu Jiang had been one of Yu Xinyao’s junior apprentice brothers, just like Hua Hongzhen!
A long, long time ago, he’d even followed Yi Daoxuan and his wife around as they traveled the world and sought the Dao!
Now that they’d met again, Yi Daoxuan’s memories rose to the forefront of Su Yi’s mind. How could he not be rueful?
“You...” Fu Jiang was stunned. He looked at Zang Wushu, then back at Su Yi. He seemed to have guessed something. His expression shifted, filling with disbelief.
“That’s right. It’s me.” Su Yi nodded.
Fu Jiang quivered from head to toe, as if he finally realized what was going on. Then, he said with a complicated look on his face, “No wonder. Not long ago, when my disciple, A’Lin, told me about the battle at Skybright Mountain, I anticipated that this day would come...”
The others were completely bewildered. Only Bai Liyin seemed to realize the implications. She couldn’t help but blurt, “Master, he... don’t tell me he’s really Su Yi!?”
Su Yi!
The name went off like a thunderclap, dealing a ruthless shock to their hearts. Everyone fell into a daze.
“Su Yi?!?” Tie Wenjing’s eyes practically popped out of their sockets.
Grand Elder Wei Zhong was unwittingly astonished too. He thought back to his trip to the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent and finally understood. So, the Su Yi who displayed his strength to the world at Skybright Mountain was actually... my traveling companion, Xiao Jian!
But the reality of the situation was so unbelievable that Wei Zhong struggled to accept it.
Su Yi disregarded the crowd’s shifting expressions and said, “Since you’ve figured out who I am, you naturally ought to understand that this grudge is between me and Hua Hongzhen. It has nothing to do with anyone else in Qingwu Divine Court.”
Fu Jiang nodded. “That’s right. I’m incomparably certain that Big Brother Yi wouldn’t hurt Qingwu Divine Court, because... this is the place my senior apprentice sister once called home...”
His voice was tinged with bitterness and melancholy.
His senior apprentice sister was Yu Xinyao.
Yu Xinyao had grown up in Qingwu Divine Court. She’d lived and cultivated here. Qingwu Divine Court was like a family to her.
Su Yi naturally understood that full well.
When Yu Xinyao died in battle, her only wish was that Yi Daoxuan wouldn’t seek retribution on the entire sect over Hua Hongzhen’s betrayal!
Fu Jiang sighed, a desolate look on his face. “But if you were in Qingwu Divine Court, why not greet me, Big Brother Yi? You had to have known that I’m not like Hua Hongzhen.”
“I didn’t want you to get swept into my enmity with Hua Hongzhen, that’s all,” said Su Yi. “I hope you won’t get involved later, either. Enough. Now that the truth has come to light, I’d best leave.”
His identity had been revealed, so he naturally couldn’t lie low in Qingwu Divine Court any longer.
“Wait up, Big Brother Yi!” Fu Jiang cried out frantically. “Might you give me an opportunity to assemble a modest feast and some humble wines and entertain you properly?”
His eyes shone with eagerness.
