First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2454 - Far-Reaching and Steadfast Spirit

Chapter 2454 – Far-Reaching and Steadfast Spirit

Once Wen Qingfeng and the others had faded fully from view, Di E shook his head. “Emotional ties are fetters. If not for your attachment to your past lives’ friendships, how could the Dipankara Buddha have plotted against you?”

Su Yi didn’t argue. Instead, he asked, “Do you have friends?”

“I do,” said Di E.

“Can you face life and death side-by-side?” asked Su Yi.

Di E frowned. “Pedant! Friendship like that isn’t even worth talking about. Everyone has to pursue the Grand Dao on their own. Your friends cannot accompany you forever!”

“You and I walk different paths, so we cannot work together,” said Su Yi. “But my friends and I are likeminded people. Even when we’re on the opposite ends of the world, just knowing that they’re there means knowing I’m not alone.”

Di E laughed derisively, but he couldn’t even be bothered to argue. “Enough. Now that your friends are far away, you can fight without reservations!”

Boom!

He raised his right hand, and countless dark glyphs surged forth, like a tide pouring out of his palm.

Heaven and earth shook. The mountains and rivers collapsed and withered.

The surrounding one hundred thousand feet of sky were enveloped in Di E’s majestic aura.

“If you can use your powers of the Grand Dao to survive against me this time, I promise not to take any further action against you prior to the Dark Days of Legend,” Di E said solemnly, his voice like the beating of a divine drum.

His imposing aura was instantly even more terrifying.

Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. “And here I thought you were determined to fight to the death today. So, you just want a clash of the Grand Dao. That’s truly… Boring!

Di E said coldly, “If you’re capable of killing me, no need to hold back.”

“I feel the same way,” said Su Yi.

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, he took a sudden step forward.

It was just one step, but heaven and earth trembled, and clanging rang out, like metal rubbing against metal.

And Su Yi erupted with imposing, domineering sword intent as vast as an ocean and as inscrutable as an abyss!

Boom!

The moment Su Yi stepped forth, three feet of sword qi silently condensed in his hand, and he casually struck the air.

It was a simple, understated gesture, but when it landed, heaven and earth split like canvas. A perfectly straight rift tore open.

No matter where his sword pointed, it seemed unbreakable and unstoppable, as if there were nothing it couldn’t cut through.

If the heavens stood in its way, it would overturn them.

If the earth tried to block it, it would destroy the earth.

Even if a thousand tribulations or ten thousand adversities stood before it, it would break them all!

Di E’s pupils constricted. He waved his hand through the air.

The black glyphs filling the sky surged forth, like a massive dragon emerging from the abyss. It crushed space and severed the five elements.

As the markings flashed and revolved, they ground Su Yi’s attack to pieces, inch by inch, like a giant millstone. Su Yi couldn’t even shake Di E.

This was Di E’s true strength.

A long time ago, he broke beyond the limits of the Undying Realm and took a single step onto the River of Destiny. He now had the strength to one-sidedly crush Nine-Tribulation Master Gods and defeat anyone and everyone in the God Domain.

Even Gu Huaxian, Jiao Mo, the old hunchback, and the others who’d touched the threshold of the River of Destiny were a notch inferior to him!

In a sense, Di E was the greatest expert the God Domain had ever seen!

He was a true ruling figure, a sovereign amongst deities!

You could have described him as a Half-Step Eternal!

But Di E was even more surprised than Su Yi. One attack had been enough for him to realize how extraordinary Su Yi’s strength was.

No!

This wasn’t just “extraordinary.” This was “heaven-defying!”

It had been just a little over a year since Su Yi’s breakthrough into the Undying Realm, but he wasn’t at all weaker than a Nine-Tribulation Master God!

His progress was absolutely shocking.

Kccch!

Sword qi whooshed through the air.

Su Yi swung his sword and attacked.

In a battle of this level, there was no room for even the slightest hesitation. Even if your mind welled with countless thoughts, you couldn’t slow your movements, as hesitation might well cost you your life!

The dome of heaven split, and the sky collapsed.

Flames of light emanated from Su Yi’s skin, like the light of the Grand Dao. It was imbued with the wondrous truths of the Epoch Spark.

When he stepped forward, the Grand Dao followed. Sword qi rumbled and boomed, and he seemed to suppress everything around him with every gesture.

Di E cast aside his scattered thoughts, his heart as bright and clear as a mirror and unrippling as the waters of an ancient well once more. He attacked with all his might.

Whoosh!

Black glyphs swept forth like a churning tide, blanketing the skies and blotting out the sun. They produced rhythmic fluctuations, and everything the darkness devoured was eradicated completely, leaving only the void behind.

This was an utterly terrifying Dao of destruction. It could burn all things, and grind everything into nothingness!

Within an instant, the two of them clashed over one hundred times, each clash stirring up a current of the Grand Dao capable of all-encompassing destruction. It swept through the air and in all four directions.

In each of these hundred-plus clashes, Su Yi’s attacks were crushed.

Di E, meanwhile, attacked with sweeping, natural movements, bringing with him endless dark glyphs. He repeatedly suppressed Su Yi!

“Your Undying Realm cultivation is simply unheard of and unprecedented. It violates the laws of nature, like a taboo treasure. It’s truly impressive!” Di E suddenly sighed. “No wonder those experts went to such lengths to pluck your Dao Fruit when you achieved divinity in the Path of the Ancient Gods!”

His voice was full of unconcealed admiration.

He knew that he could suppress Su Yi, not because his powers of the Grand Dao were overly heaven-defying, but because his cultivation was far higher.

In other words, were he and Su Yi at the same cultivation level, he’d lose beyond a doubt.

How could Di E not be surprised?

Su Yi’s eyebrows rose. He could roughly guess why Di E had chosen to have this clash of the Grand Dao with him.

Di E did perhaps want to kill him, but more than that, he wanted to get a sense for his cultivation base and abilities!

But to Su Yi, this doubled as a chance to probe Di E’s abilities.

Clang!

The impassioned hum of a sword rang out, and Su Yi attacked with renewed intensity, swinging his sword ferociously.

Sometimes, his strikes were like a world-burning furnace, using heaven and earth as coal to melt all of creation.

Other times, they were like the river of stars pouring down from the nine heavens, sweeping the world below as if intent on overturning heaven and earth.

Other times, they manifested the secrets of reincarnation. With every such strike, visions of the Six Paths of Reincarnation manifested, all full of endless perils.

Kaboom!

Di E was neither reckless nor complacent. On the contrary, he was as steady as a mountain. He shifted through the battlefield, suppressing every last one of Su Yi’s attempts to counterattack.

The pressure he put on Su Yi continuously increased!

Within moments, Su Yi was covered in wounds. Di E’s dark glyphs condensed into Dao Seals and slammed into Su Yi, shaking his vital energy and almost scattering it. His blood and qi churned, and it hurt so badly that he almost coughed up blood.

He controlled those endless dark glyphs with wondrous finesse, as if seizing fortune from the heavens. With him at the helm, they displayed unbelievable destructive power.

The gap between Di E and Su Yi was indeed enormous. If not for Su Yi’s unparalleled attainments in the Dao of the Sword, his defenses would have broken a long time ago, letting Di E suppress him completely.

But this only stirred Su Yi’s will to fight.

Over the past year, he’d led his old friends in battle throughout the Boundless Battlefield, killing countless enemies and tempering himself repeatedly. His cultivation had made numerous advances, and he’d long since reached the pinnacle of the No Laws, No Heavens level!

Recently, Su Yi had been racking his brain for ways to break through. He’d repeatedly tried to divine and contemplate his next steps.

Now, he was vaguely starting to grasp the opportunity he needed to break through.

As wretched as he seemed in this battle against Di E, and although his opponent was suppressing him, the incomparably fierce combat served to repeatedly temper his cultivation base.

This confirmed his conclusions about the next stage of his cultivation!

He even felt a powerful premonition that his battle with Di E would let him temper truly perfect foundations for his next breakthrough!

Thus, no matter how bad his wounds or how wretched he looked, Su Yi fought with ever greater valiance. His heart, body, and soul were perfectly unified.

He strived for excellence in all areas, and his heart was focused and determined!

He was completely immersed in this perilous battle!

His wounds piled on, increasing in severity. His blue robes were torn and drenched with blood.

But all of Su Yi’s power seemed to fuse, boiling, burning, and erupting.

His latent potential was excavated and awakened. Even though he was in grave peril, with danger on every corner and his life hanging in the balance, he had enough strength to fight back.

As wretched as he looked, there was no disguising his all-encompassing sword force, and his majesty was even greater than before!

“Die!”

Su Yi and Di E were locked in fierce combat, fighting throughout heaven and earth, from the ground to the sky.

Eight thousand miles of landscape collapsed around them. Everything was laid to ruin.

This was the Hazy Sea Forbidden Zone, one of the most dangerous forbidden zones in the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent. Only those unafraid to die dared venture into these waters in search of good fortune.

As they fought, Su Yi and Di E looked like sovereigns of the nine heavens locked in fierce combat. Their battle was like the descent of the apocalypse, stirring the waters and causing widespread destruction.

Their battle had long since drawn the attention of the experts exploring these waters. Without exception, their hearts filled with horror. They scampered off in panic, not daring to linger.

“What on earth is happening in the Hazy Sea Forbidden Zone? Has a tribulation descended from the heavens?”

“It looks like someone’s fighting. Listen carefully, and you can hear the humming of a sword!”

“That’s a battle? Don’t tell me that Nine-Tribulation Master Gods are fighting?”

“Hurry up and retreat!”

Even those who’d entered the Undying Realm and the terrifying lifeforms lurking beneath the waves fled in terror, fearing nothing more than the battle’s aftershock reaching them.

As those outside the battle fled and panicked, Di E frowned, his expression shifting and uncertain.

It had been just a few years since Su Yi had come to the God Domain. On his way here, he hadn’t been able to take even one of Di E’s attacks, so Di E’s ambush almost killed him.

But now, Su Yi had the heaven-defying strength needed to duke it out with him!

The disparity was enormous. How could Di E possibly have remained calm after seeing it?

He’d hoped to use this battle to test Su Yi’s strength and gauge his abilities. He wanted to get a feel for his cultivation base.

But as the battle progressed, Di E was shocked to discover that although Su Yi looked like he was at a disadvantage, covered in wounds, and on the brink of death, Su Yi’s vital energy, imposing aura, and even his power of the Dao of the Sword were rapidly growing stronger!

Don’t tell me he’s trying to borrow my hands to break the bottleneck in his cultivation?

As soon as this thought occurred to Di E, he frowned, and his eyes flashed with irrepressible murderous intent. He’d decided to strike to kill!

He no longer planned to test Su Yi or sense the details of his cultivation base.

He couldn’t tolerate Su Yi using their battle to realize another breakthrough!
