First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2543 - Mercilessly Ripped Off

Chapter 2543 – Mercilessly Ripped Off

He wants… to borrow our saber? Our supreme sect-protecting treasure?

Everyone in Ravening Wolf Daoist Court looked stricken. This condition was far too much!

Lending Su Yi the Blood-Soaked Purgatory Saber would be like throwing a meat bun at a dog; there was no way they’d ever get it back!

Lu Daoyuan’s chest heaved. For a moment, he really wanted to ask where Su Yi got the gall to demand something so outrageous!

But in the end, he held back and said, “Forgive me, but Ravening Wolf Daoist Court cannot agree to that.”

Su Yi smiled. “Relax. I’m a sword cultivator; there’s no way I’d keep the saber for myself.”

If you disdain to seize it, why ask to borrow it? Everyone looked at him with obvious skepticism.

“Please offer an alternative, Fellow Daoist.” Lu Daoyuan glowered and forced his frustration back down.

Su Yi thought for a moment. “In that case, give me all the Fragments of Heaven’s Will you’ve acquired.”

Lu Daoyuan and the other patriarchs were briefly stunned, but they quickly figured out what was really happening here. He was never really interested in the Blood-Soaked Purgatory Saber. He just wanted to set a sky high price to make his next offer seem more reasonable!

He was most likely after the Fragments of Heaven’s Will all along!

After all, we refused him earlier. How could we refuse him again?

But even though they saw through him, Lu Daoyuan and the others still sighed in relief.

“Excellent. We agree!” Lu Daoyuan nodded.

None of the others objected, especially since Su Yi couldn’t possibly have known how many Fragments of Heaven’s Will they’d gathered. They could just give him the dregs to fob him off.

But Su Yi seemed to read their mind. He said calmly, “Let me give you a warning. I control the Laws of Supreme Emergence, one of the Five Great Sources of the God Domain. If I use it to sense my surroundings, I’ll be able to tell just how many Fragments of Heaven’s Will you have on hand. You’d best not try any funny business.”

Lu Daoyuan and the others exchanged glances.

“Fellow Daoist Su, please rest assured. External treasures, that’s all. Ravening Wolf Daoist Court can afford to part with them,” Lu Daoyuan said gravely.

“That would be best,” said Su Yi. “Right, don’t forget about Wan Zitian’s compensation. You need to make me feel your sincerity.”

“Understood.” Lu Daoyuan nodded.

Everyone’s heart was full of grief. They knew that there was no avoiding getting ripped off, but there was nothing for it; this was the price of compromise.

……

A little less than ten minutes later, Su Yi took inventory of his spoils with great satisfaction.

He’d gained nineteen Fragments of Heaven’s Will in total. Five were second tier, while the rest were third tier.

He hadn’t acquired any first-tier or supreme fragments, but Su Yi was still satisfied.

Even though third-tier fragments were the most ordinary, they were still rare and precious enough that the world’s top factions would fight over them!

Second-tier fragments were even rarer. His allies had been searching the area around Sunset Perch Island for years, but they’d only found two thus far.

As for first-tier fragments… Every time one appeared, a grand, shocking battle was sure to follow. Every time, this led to a storm of bloodshed.

Even top factions would participate in the struggle and vie for them with all their might!

And supreme fragments were all but unheard of; only one had appeared since the Dark Days of Legend began. It had already fallen into the hands of the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains.

This incident had triggered an enormous uproar across the God Domain.

Wan Zitian’s compensation consisted of a wide array of Undying medicines and materials.

Su Yi had repeatedly used the phrase “your sincerity is insufficient” to squeeze an enormous quantity of treasure out of the Ravening Wolf Daoist Court.

This harvest was beyond Su Yi’s expectations. He hadn’t realized that the Ravening Wolf Daoist Court was so wealthy.

“Don’t look so upset. You managed to buy peace by sacrificing a few external objects. If anything, you ought to celebrate.” Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh.

He’d noticed that the sect’s higher-ups had unsightly looks on their faces, as if they were attending their parents funerals. No one responded to Su Yi’s remarks for fear that he’d seize the opportunity to “twist the knife” yet again.

Su Yi realized that enough was enough, so he turned to leave, only to notice Xun Wuyuan.

“How much is his life worth?” he asked curiously.

Everyone in Ravening Wolf Daoist Court felt like they’d been stabbed. Is… is he seriously planning to seize yet another opportunity to extort us?

But then, Su Yi shook his head, put his hands behind his back, and sauntered off. “Forget it. His life has long since ceased to mean anything to me.”

Xun Wuyuan’s face flushed red. He felt incomparably humiliated.

As upsetting as it was to be used as a bargaining chip, it was even worse when someone couldn’t even be bothered. It was blatant humiliation!

That bastard deserves death by a thousand cuts, but at least he’s finally gone! When the cultivators of Ravening Wolf Daoist Court saw Su Yi fade away, all of them sighed in relief.

But when they thought of the price they’d paid today, none could bring themselves to celebrate.

It hurt.

It hurt far too much!

If they could do it all over again, they would never have chosen to provoke Su Yi, not even if you beat them to death!

After a while, Lu Daoxuan said slowly and clearly, “While we’re still unable to leave the spacetime forbidden zone, none of you are to provoke anyone on Sunset Perch Island any further!”

His voice was full of bitterness, as well as unconcealable hatred and murderous intent.

……

Blue Sparrow and Flying Serpent Daoist Courts learned of the Ravening Wolf Daoist Court’s misfortune before the day was through.

Both factions were astonished by Su Yi’s strength. Who’d have dared imagine that he could have forced Ravening Wolf Daoist Court to lower its head all by himself?

Ravening Wolf Daoist Court paid such a grievous price, but they still had no choice but to bite their tongues and endure!

After processing the situation, both factions celebrated. They celebrated that none of their subordinates had provoked Su Yi.

If they had… they feared that they’d have had to pay a similarly grievous price.

……

Sunset Perch Island.

When Luo Qingdi and the others saw Su Yi return alive and well, all of them relaxed.

Su Yi passed on the “compensation” to Wan Zitian. He didn’t keep so much as a single treasure for himself.

He even distributed the Fragments of Heaven’s Will among his friends, keeping just two of the second-tier fragments for himself.

After finishing all this, Su Yi went into seclusion to treat his wounds.

This battle had given him a clear understanding of a Half-Step Eternal’s abilities, and he’d further confirmed something: False Eternals, “Those Who’d Entered the Chamber”, wouldn’t dare to leave their spacetime forbidden zones lightly anytime soon!

It was only after the God Domain’s chaos source dissipated to a certain level that terrifying figures like Lu Daoyuan would dare to enter the present day.

That aside, the Ravening Wolf Daoist Court’s foundations had given Su Yi a newfound understanding of the factions of other spacetimes.

The Blood-Soaked Purgatory Saber had left a particularly deep impression. It was a true killer weapon, terrifying beyond measure.

Su Yi didn’t even need to think to know that other spacetime factions were sure to possess similar trump cards!

In times of turmoil, upheaval, and darkness, everyone is doing their utmost to compete for good fortune and increase their strength.

That’s true of factions as well as individuals.

As time passes, more and more terrifying figures will enter the world, and the conflict will only grow all the fiercer.

Su Yi sat in his secluded grotto, pondering as he cultivated.

It had seemed that the spiritual energy of heaven and earth had been revitalized after hitting a low ebb, but Su Yi knew that that wasn’t the case. The false rejuvenation was simply the result of the fragments of Heaven’s Will scattered about heaven and earth.

Once all of the fragments had been divvied up, this false flourishing would vanish, popping like a soap bubble.

The God Domain’s chaos source still remained, but as time passed, it too would fade away. When it vanished fully, that would mark the true start of the upheaval!

When the world’s spiritual energy ran dry, and when the aura of the Grand Dao was nowhere to be found, how would the God Domain be any different from any other lifeless ruin devoid of the Dao?

When the time came, the God Domain’s cultivation factions would wither. Countless sects and clans would disappear amidst the chaos and upheaval.

Everyone is struggling: to save themselves, to bring order, or for the Grand Dao. I… cannot remain in seclusion like this any longer, thought Su Yi.

With his current strength, he could fight Half-Step Eternals, but that still wasn’t enough. After all, False Eternals existed above Half-Step Eternals. When the Battle for Order began, those true Eternals of the River of Destiny would show up, too.

All of this meant that Su Yi’s future enemies would be more and more dangerous, and more and more terrifying!

Even if he wanted to avoid them, he couldn’t, because he carried the power of reincarnation and the Epoch Spark. Countless people had him on their “must-kill” lists already.

It’s been years since I last explored the four Divine Continents. It’s about time I went back. Su Yi made up his mind.

The Dark days of Legend were sweeping across the world, but as of yet, Su Yi had merely received information from across the God Domain; he hadn’t seen the effects of the carnage and upheaval for himself.

That aside, he planned to gather Fragments of the Grand Dao and temper his cultivation base.

Seven days later, Su Yi left his secluded grotto. He’d decided to set course for the Endless Ocean.

“I’ll leave Sunset Perch Island to you. If enemies show up, inform me immediately,” Su Yi said to Luo Qingdi and the River Child.

Given Sunset Perch Island’s current defenses, even Half-Step Eternals could forget about breaking its defensive formations quickly.

But Su Yi could say with some degree of certainty that after word of what happened in the Ravening Wolf Forbidden Zone spread, no one would dare to cause trouble on Sunset Perch Island anytime soon!

This was part of why Su Yi had attacked Ravening Wolf Daoist Court in the first place.

Firstly, he’d wanted to avenge Wan Zitian’s injuries and vent on his behalf.

Secondly, he’d attacked as a warning to the rest!

Going forward, anyone with ill intentions for Sunset Perch Island would have to carefully weigh the consequences of offending them.

“Rest assured, Fellow Daoist Su,” Luo Qingdi solemnly agreed.

Something suddenly occurred to Su Yi. “When we left the River of Epochs, the River Lord promised you and your sister that he’d help you achieve Eternity. Has he made good on that promise yet?”

Luo Qingdi froze, then shook his head. “At the time, the River Lord just said that he’d fulfill his promise to us when the opportunity to achieve Eternity arose.”

Su Yi said thoughtfully, “In that case, it sounds like the old man will head for the God Domain sooner or later.

“I just wonder if… that third incarnation of mine has left the Path of the Ancient Gods yet or not.”
