Chapter 2629 - True Peril
Chapter 2629 – True Peril
Off in the distance, the Malevolent Sword Venerate was still suppressing the Sword of the Nine Hells with both hands when he couldn’t help but take another glance at Su Yi.
It seems he plans to put his life on the line!
It seemed quite scary, quite valiant, and quite astonishing, but a moment later, the Malevolent Sword Venerate laughed. Risking it all with no regard for his life means he’s almost out of cards!
Blood splattered the air. Three more False Eternals perished, leaving just the little girl and Taishu Gong left.
But Su Yi paid no small price for this success.
Taishu Gong’s strike was like adding frost to snow, worsening Su Yi’s already severe injuries. His face was as white as paper, and his whole body dripped blood. Even the energy coursing through his body showed signs of disarray.
The little girl wasn’t at all emotional about it. She just knew that Su Yi wasn’t far from death!
Meanwhile, Taishu Gong’s heart shook. He was completely stunned. By this point of the battle, he naturally understood how terrifying Su Yi was. At this point, he feared nothing more than Su Yi lashing out as he had before, heedless of his injuries!
Thus, he made his next moves with the utmost caution, attacking and retreating conservatively. He wasn’t aiming for success so much as avoiding failure.
This actually reduced the pressure on Su Yi, letting him focus on defeating the little girl.
Kaboom!
Yet another fierce conflict broke out.
Su Yi was forced back, but the little girl staggered back, too.
“If you keep holding back, I’ll kill you first!” The little girl glared icily at Taishu Gong, She was deeply displeased.
There’d been several perfect opportunities to team up against Su Yi, but Taishu Gong had passed every last one of them up.
Taishu Gong’s expression shifted erratically. He opened his mouth to speak, but before he got the chance, the distant Malevolent Sword Sovereign said calmly, “His heart is full of dread, and he shrinks back out of fear. He really ought to die. His life… is already useless. Huo Yunhu, kill him!”
As his voice rang out, a figure appeared out of nowhere and pressed down, killing Taishu Gong on the spot!
In the last moments before his death, Taishu Gong’s eyes widened with astonishment and disbelief.
He was the leader of the Myriad Dao Alliance’s forces. Countless experts heeded his every command. Moreover, he was one of the five rulers of the Epoch of the Five Sovereigns!
Who could have imagined that at the final juncture of this battle, a member of his own camp would kill him simply because he fought overly cautiously?
He was far too unwilling to accept this. It was far too stifling!
And far too absurd!
All of this combined meant that Taishu Gong knew no peace in death.
The little girl was unwittingly stunned, too. She lacked human emotions, but she knew how ruthless someone had to be to kill a member of their own camp.
Yet now, a single sentence from the Malevolent Sword Venerate had been enough to condemn Taishu Gong to death!
Didn’t that mean that the Malevolent Sword Venerate would kill her, too, if she displeased him?
The little girl felt the urge to ask, If you had an expert capable of killing Taishu Gong on hand, why not send him into battle earlier? Why make me and Taishu Gong fight Su Yi without him?
But in the end, the little girl held back.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate’s terrifying power was common knowledge on the River of Destiny. The little girl didn’t dare to provoke him!
Meanwhile, Su Yi got a clear look at the person who’d killed Taishu Gong. He was a familiar face—Huo Yunhu, an expert of the Limitless Palace and a subordinate of Heavenly Sovereign Wen!
Years ago, Huo Yunhu brought someone called Lu Qiu to the God Domain, issuing a decree on Heavenly Sovereign Wen’s behalf. They wanted Su Yi to submit.
How could Su Yi possibly have forgotten?
But this time was different. This time, Huo Yunhu was no mere avatar of will. Instead, he’d sent a clone!
Taishu Gong had been a False Eternal, yet Huo Yunhu had destroyed him with a single palm strike. That made it immediately obvious how powerful his clone was!
Huo Yunhu’s appearance made Su Yi realize that Heavenly Sovereign Wen of Limitless Palace had joined forces with the Malevolent Sword Venerate!
The Malevolent Sword Venerate looked at the little girl. “Step back.”
The little girl stiffened, but she dared not argue. She just silently moved further away.
“Huo Yunhu, kill Su Yi.” The Malevolent Sword Venerate’s gaze shifted, and he said softly, “I’d like to see who dares attempt to loot a burning house at this critical juncture!”
But before Huo Yunhu could attack, a raspy voice rang out. “Malevolent Sword Venerate, what happens here today isn’t yours to decide!”
The voice boomed far and wide, shaking heaven and earth.
An old man with white robes and black, flowing Daoist robes appeared holding a jade-like bamboo cane.
“Old Daoist Crow!” The little girl furrowed her brow. She recognized this new arrival as a prominent heretical cultivator from the River of Destiny.
Huo Yunhu’s expression shifted; he clearly recognized him too.
Outwardly, Su Yi didn’t so much as blink, but on the inside, his heart sank. He really hadn’t anticipated that so many variables would arise in his battle with the two great alliances.
What he found hardest to understand was that when cultivators sent their clones and avatars into the God Domain, they were subject to the restrictions of its chaos source.
But now, the Malevolent Sword Venerate, Huo Yunhu, and now Old Daoist Crow displayed terrifying power far beyond the limits of a False Eternal!
It seemed the God Domain’s chaos source couldn’t limit them they way it should have. They weren’t suffering any kind of backlash!
Su Yi’s thoughts raced, and he quickly reached a conclusion. It seems the problem lies in the Borderless Mountain!
Perhaps the mountain itself is somehow exempt from the usual restrictions of the God Domain’s chaos source… alternatively, it’s like the various spacetime forbidden grounds in that it can affect powerful experts, just not as much as the rest of the God Domain.
The second possibility seemed more likely. After all, if the experts of the River of Destiny were entirely unaffected, they wouldn’t have sent clones and avatars. They’d have come in person!
This realization presented a thorny problem. Su Yi now realized that he wasn’t simply up against the experts of the two alliances. The real threat came from the River of Destiny!
Another figure appeared shortly after Old Daoist Crow.
A wisp of resplendent golden light exploded into being, interweaving into a man in a feather coat. His long hair was disheveled, and his eyes glinted like knives.
Most striking of all, he held an old-fashioned treasure tower in the palm of his hand. It had nine stories, and countless blood-red markings arose on its surface.
Cang Lingzi!
The little girl’s frown deepened. This was yet another unparalleled expert of the River of Destiny. He was from Sevendeaths Court, a faction of the Eternal Heavens Domain.
And Sevendeaths Court was backed by one of the Nine Heavenly Sovereigns, Heavenly Sovereign Yaoguang!
“Old Daoist Crow is right. There’s no telling how many experts of the River of Destiny are watching this battle. There’s no way we’ll let you monopolize the good fortune up for grabs here, Malevolent Sword Venerate,” Cang Lingzi said slowly.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate’s eyes flashed. “You’re trying to sweep in and reap the benefits? In that case, allow me to make myself perfectly care. If any of you dare try anything, I won’t concern myself with your origin or backer. I’ll hunt down your true bodies and kill you no matter what!”
The threat was as tyrannical as could be. Cang Lingzi and Old Daoist Crow frowned.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate was considered the Greatest of the Unthroned in the Eternal Heavens Domain. Who’d dare to disregard him?
Huo Yunhu seized the opportunity to chime in. “Get mixed up in this, and Limitless Palace won’t let you off!”
The atmosphere was instantly stifled and tense. All was silent.
But then, seemingly out of nowhere, yet another figure appeared.
“If threats were effective, how could so much strife exist in this world? Seems to me that there’s no point standing around flapping our lips. Let’s just fight and see who’s superior!”
The arrival was a scholarly-looking man with broad sleeves and a golden moon totem on his forehead.
Dao Lord Jin Hua!
Yet another terrifying existence from the River of Destiny.
One figure appeared after another following Dao Lord Jin Hua. Each was more terrifying than the one before. All of them were far beyond False Eternals.
A few of them were familiar to Su Yi, like Dao Venerate Lu Shi, Yu Chiyang, and others who’d participated in the battle at Returning Dragon Mountain.
In the end, a dozen or so terrifying figures stood there, a mix of men and women. Each was mightier than the one before. Their auras alone shifted heaven and earth.
An unbelievable calamitous aura surged forth, sweeping across the entire Eastern Victory Divine Continent.
It was midday, but darkness fell over the world, plunging everything into a seemingly eternal night. Countless strange and terrifying phenomena arose amidst the darkness.
Every cultivator in the Eastern Victory Divine Continent, no matter where they were or what they were doing, sensed it clearly. The God Domain’s chaos source had been thrown into upheaval, and the whole world shook as if about to fall.
All of this was because of the more than a dozen people who’d appeared here!
They’d yet to take action, but simply by entering the God Domain and appearing on Borderless Mountain, they threw the entire landscape into chaos and manifested calamitous visions in the sky!
Su Yi stood there, calmly taking it all in. His expression frosted over.
He really hadn’t anticipated things developing this way, but by now, how could he possibly have failed to realize that numerous old-timers of the River of Destiny had been watching their battle this entire time?
Otherwise, this could never have happened.
This situation was extraordinarily dangerous.
Su Yi stood alone in midair as the newly arrived terrifying experts sealed the place off completely.
In the crowd’s eyes, he now seemed like mere prey. He was covered in bloody wounds, and it seemed he couldn’t struggle any longer, much less escape.
Lu Shi, Yu Chiyang, and the others’ eyes even contained a hint of pity. So what if you’re supreme in the God Domain? You’re now just a beast in a cage. We can slaughter you as we see fit!
Pick any of the new arrivals at random, and you’d find an influential powerhouse of the River of Destiny.
Su Yi, on the other hand, was at the end of his rope!
But he didn’t lose heart, nor did he lose his temper. He just calmly took it all in, his expression never shifting. He was as silent and steady as an abyss.
No one knew what he was really thinking.
