Chapter 1420: 1419 Really Want You
Chapter 1420: 1419 Really Want You
Bai Yiyi’s heartbeat was chaotic, unable to think clearly.
But she knew very well that it wasn’t because of his attitude toward her mother. She lowered her gaze and said softly, “I don’t want to do it in the car.”
As the words left her mouth, her cheeks felt as though they were set on fire, burning bright red.
Gu Kai was stunned.
It seemed he could hardly believe his ears. She said it wasn’t because of his attitude toward her mother, but because she didn’t want to do it in the car.
“Then if we go back to G City, will you agree?”
He locked his gaze onto hers, his eyes growing even more fervent.
Bai Yiyi dared not meet the heat in his eyes. It seemed that if she looked even a moment longer, she would melt. She instinctively pulled away, trying not to stay so close to him.
“Mm.”
The sound was so faint it was almost inaudible.
However, Gu Kai heard it.
And he heard it clearly. Mixed within the overwhelming desire in his eyes was a trace of satisfaction. Just hearing those words from her, even if it made him uncomfortable, he was willing to endure it.
He wrapped one arm around her waist, adjusted the seat underneath him back upright, and helped her sit back in the passenger seat. His voice was hoarse as he reminded her, “What you just said—you can’t take it back.”
Bai Yiyi pressed her lips together, lowered her head, and straightened her clothes, secretly letting out a sigh of relief.
Gu Kai stared at her for a few seconds, then leaned forward again. Bai Yiyi, who had just finished fixing her clothes, looked at him cautiously, immediately on guard. “You…”
“I’m just helping you with your seatbelt.” Seeing the wariness in her eyes, Gu Kai couldn’t help but laugh.
Bai Yiyi’s face warmed. Luckily, the light in the car was dim, so he couldn’t see her obviously flushed expression.
Though Gu Kai couldn’t see her face turning red, he could sense her shyness. His gaze deepened. After securing her seatbelt, he lowered his head and said in a husky voice, “Just now, I really did want you.”
“…”
Bai Yiyi’s eyes widened in shock. Gu Kai burst out in hearty laughter.
The car was back on the road, and Gu Kai’s cheerful mood filled the atmosphere in the car with warmth.
A subtle ambiguity lingered in the air, washing away the dullness and unease they had felt earlier when leaving Bai Yiyi’s house.
“If you’re tired, you can sleep.”
Through the corner of his glasses, Gu Kai glanced at Bai Yiyi and noticed her looking down at his hands on the steering wheel. A strange warmth stirred within him.
“If I fall asleep and you get drowsy, who’s going to keep you company? I’ll stay up with you instead.”
It had to be said, the exchange they’d just shared had subtly brought their relationship a step closer.
Bai Yiyi had actually considered suggesting that Gu Kai take a break so she could drive, but thinking that he’d surely refuse, she chose not to say it out loud.
“Aren’t you tired?”
Gu Kai’s lips curved into a faint smile.
“Not tired.”
Bai Yiyi shook her head, her heart softening as she was infected by the light smile at the corner of his lips.

“Ranran, let’s return to G City today.”
In the morning, on the beach outside the seaside villa, Wen Ran, Jing Xiaocha, and Fang Zhiwei sat on the sand, watching the three little ones build a sandcastle.
Here, there wasn’t the coldness of G City. Even in the early morning, it was as warm as spring. By noon, you could wear just a shirt.
Wen Ran, who had been gazing gently at the three little ones, turned her head at Fang Zhiwei’s voice. The smile on her face slightly faded, and a trace of puzzlement appeared between her brows. “Sister Wei, don’t you like it here?”
“Sister Fang, I think this place is great! Let’s stay for another couple of days. How about we make dumplings for lunch today?”
Jing Xiaocha blinked her bright, wide eyes and looked expectantly at Fang Zhiwei.
In the distance, Mo Xiuchen, Wen Jin, and Lu Zhiyan walked across the fine sand. From afar, Mo Xiuchen’s gaze naturally settled on Wen Ran, his eyes filled with unrestrained tenderness and affection.
As Wen Jin glanced at Jing Xiaocha, who was linking arms with Fang Zhiwei, his brows furrowed. “Looks like Fang Zhiwei wants to return to G City. Should we head back today?”
Mo Xiuchen turned to Lu Zhiyan, his voice low as he spoke. “Didn’t you promise Ah Kai? Later, see if you can persuade Fang Zhiwei to stay.”
“I never promised to make Fang Zhiwei stay here forever,” Lu Zhiyan protested, displeased. It was already the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, and he needed to return to work soon. He wasn’t like the other two, who could go back whenever they pleased.
Wen Jin chuckled lightly. “You did promise to accompany Fang Zhiwei to see a therapist and help her recover from her depression. If she goes back now, she’ll surely seek out Ah Kai. After what happened on New Year’s Eve, do you think Ah Kai would dare provoke her?”
“Ranran spoke with Bai Yiyi on the phone last night. Apparently, Bai Yiyi is heading back to G City today,” Mo Xiuchen murmured, a contemplative look flashing across his eyes. After a moment, he added, “Maybe Fang Zhiwei overheard Ranran’s call with Bai Yiyi last night.”
That’s why she brought up returning to G City this morning.
When Jing Xiaocha suggested heading to the beach, the three little ones immediately got excited and cooperatively tagged along, eager to join in.
Lu Zhiyan sighed. “Why am I so unlucky? Fang Zhiwei isn’t a three-year-old child; she’s not that easy to fool. Deep down, she probably knows we brought her here to keep her away from Ah Kai.”
“She knows, but she’s stubborn. Otherwise, what do we need you for?” Mo Xiuchen raised an eyebrow, his expression clearly saying, “Since you’ve taken it on, you’d better see it through.”
Lu Zhiyan snorted coldly. “How much longer are you planning to stay here?”
“Two more days. We’ll return on the seventh since work starts on the eighth,” Wen Jin replied, more considerate than Mo Xiuchen. After all, Lu Zhiyan was his good friend.
Otherwise, that night he wouldn’t have wasted time at Fang Zhiwei’s house, keeping her company through the New Year alongside Lu Zhiyan.
If it were up to him, he wouldn’t have spent that time with someone he didn’t care about. He’d rather be with the one he truly wanted to be with.
“If we all stay two more days, Fang Zhiwei won’t leave for G City on her own. In that case, I’ll take charge of planning the next two days’ activities,” Lu Zhiyan suggested confidently after a moment of thought.
Mo Xiuchen shot him a noncommittal glance and resumed his stride, his long legs carrying him toward Wen Ran in the distance.

G City
Gu Kai’s trip back had been remarkably smooth, with no traffic jams.
By eight-thirty in the morning, they were home.
Since Tongtong was at the Gu Family residence, Gu Kai drove straight there. Bai Yiyi made no objections, but if one paid close attention, they might notice a faint trace of nervousness in her expression.
As the car rolled into the garage, Gu Kai turned slightly to look at Bai Yiyi, who was seated in the passenger seat. In a gentle voice, he said, “My dad is waiting for us at home. There’s no need to be nervous.”
“Mm.”
Bai Yiyi pressed her lips together and nodded lightly.
Some things didn’t need to be said aloud—they seemed to understand each other’s thoughts implicitly.
When Gu Kai decided to take a step forward and face her mother, Bai Yiyi’s attempt to retreat was denied. She had no other choice but to move forward with him.
She wanted to be with Gu Kai. Naturally, that meant facing his father, Gu Yan, as well.
To be honest, Bai Yiyi had never officially met Gu Yan before. Their previous encounters, those fleeting moments of interaction, had been under entirely different circumstances.
Gu Kai cast her a deep look, then got out of the car and strode around to her side. He opened the passenger door for her with a determined air.
