Chapter 1549: 1548 If it happens again, cut ties.

“Did my mom call you?”

Qin Mu furrowed his brows, his deep voice tinged with a hint of skepticism.

Feeling questioned by Qin Mu, Gu Kai immediately retorted in an unhappy tone, “Of course, what, you think I’m lying to you?”

“I got a call from your family’s Empress Dowager on my way home. She somehow heard about the misunderstanding between you and An Lin that’s leading to a divorce and called to ask me.”

“What did you say?”

A trace of darkness flashed through the depths of Qin Mu’s eyes. The hand he had on An Lin’s shoulder tightened a bit.

An Lin seemed to hear Gu Kai’s words too. A hint of astonishment crossed her eyes as she looked up at Qin Mu.

“What could I say? Of course, I said it was a rumor. Then your family’s Empress Dowager asked me if An Lin’s pregnancy was true.”

“You should tell her it’s true.”

Qin Mu’s straightforward response made Gu Kai catch onto something, “Could it be that An Lin is indeed pregnant? Ah Mu, you’re pretty fast.”

“In the short term, An Lin and I can’t return to G City. There’s some stuff happening here, and Feng Wanfeng has brought her son to City C. We’ll go back once things are sorted out here.”

Qin Mu dodged the question.

The topic turned serious, and Gu Kai’s tone became somber, “Be careful, you and An Lin. Yao Xinmin’s death, his son will surely blame it on you and Uncle Qin. Especially An Lin, ensure she doesn’t get hurt again.”

“Mm, I’ll be careful.”

Qin Mu lowered his head and met An Lin’s gaze. In his eyes, there was an uncontrollable layer of tenderness.

An Lin’s heartbeat skipped a beat.

Such a gaze made it hard for her to remain calm, yet she couldn’t bear to look away.

After hanging up the call, Qin Mu placed his phone on the bedside table and said to her, “Once Yao Dewei’s matter is resolved, we’ll take a trip back to G City.”

“Maybe it’ll be Ah Kai and Yiyi’s wedding by then.”

An Lin’s brows furrowed slightly. It’s been several days, and Yao Dewei still hasn’t called Feng Wanfeng.

“Could it be that Yao Dewei doesn’t trust my cousin?”

“No, Yao Dewei quietly sent his mistress and illegitimate child abroad. With his position gone cold, the only person he can rely on domestically now is your cousin. No one else will associate with him.”

In G City, after hanging up the phone, Gu Kai immediately went into the bathroom to help the nauseated Bai Yiyi out.

“Yiyi, are you feeling very uncomfortable?”

Seeing Bai Yiyi’s slightly pale face, Gu Kai’s heart tightened, and his previously fine brows furrowed deeply.

These days, Bai Yiyi experienced morning sickness almost daily.

“It’s okay. When I was pregnant with Tongtong, it was the same. Once the early stage is over, it’ll get better.”

“If I’d known pregnancy would make you feel this bad, I wouldn’t have wanted it.” Gu Kai furrowed his brows, his eyes filled with concern.

Bai Yiyi glared at him, gently touched her still-flat belly, and said, “Don’t say things like that. Didn’t you say that the baby can hear?”

“What I said is true. Why didn’t you tell me before that your reaction to pregnancy would be this significant?”

Gu Kai frowned and thought for a moment before adding, “What do you want to eat? I’ll make you something. You threw up all your dinner tonight.”

“I don’t feel like eating anything right now.”

Bai Yiyi shook her head, grabbing his hand to keep him from getting out of bed, “It’s late. Go to sleep. Don’t you have surgery tomorrow morning?”

“Then quickly tell me what you want to eat.”

Gu Kai turned her small hand over, holding it in his palm, gaze fixed on her, “How about I get you some pickled fish?”

“It’s midnight now.”

Bai Yiyi rolled her eyes. Where could one get pickled fish at such a late hour?

Hearing her, Gu Kai chuckled, “As long as you want it, it’s fine. Go to sleep first, and I’ll wake you up once I return with it.”

“Ah Kai, really, there’s no need. I don’t want any.”

Bai Yiyi called out with a frown, but Gu Kai had already tossed back the covers, got out of bed, and made his way to the closet to change clothes.

He told Bai Yiyi to “go to sleep first” and left the bedroom.

Instead of going out to buy, he dialed Mo Xiuchen’s number as soon as he got downstairs.

“Xiu Chen, Yiyi wants to eat pickled fish. Didn’t Nanny Zhang buy and keep some fish? You’re good at cooking, please make one for us. I’ll come over to get it now.”

“Your wife wants to eat, yet you don’t know how to buy it yourself?”

From the other end, being disturbed in the middle of the night left someone in a foul mood.

“I’ll repay you with an aquarium full of fish tomorrow, will that work?” Gu Kai chuckled.

“Go fool someone else.”

Mo Xiuchen was furious.

For some unknown reason, his home gradually became the place for Gu Kai to raise fish.

Just because his daughter Tongtong would always follow Momo, Xin Xin, and Ziyi to attend lessons and dine at Mo Xiuchen’s place.

All the kids loved fish, so their aquarium was always restocked.

“Xiu Chen, if you’re unwilling, then I’ll have Ranran do it. She won’t refuse me.”

“Do it again next time, and I’ll cut ties.”

The man disturbed in the middle of the night was fuming.

Gu Kai walked leisurely, gauging the time to the Mo family.

As soon as he entered the living room, the aroma of pickled fish hit him, causing the smile on his lips to broaden.

Of course, it was Mo Xiuchen in the kitchen.

Though unwilling, there was no way he would let Ranran cook in the middle of the night.

Gu Kai strolled into the kitchen, joyfully announcing, “Xiu Chen, your cooking has improved again.”

From the second floor, footsteps sounded from the stairway, and soon after, Wen Ran entered the kitchen.

A moment before, Mo Xiuchen was cold towards Gu Kai; in the next, the icy demeanor melted, giving way to a spring-like warmth.

“Ranran, I told you to sleep first. Why are you down again?”

Wen Ran smiled, “I smelled the aroma upstairs. I got hungry too.”

“Xiu Chen, after you’re done cooking for Ranran, let me take this one.” Gu Kai, hearing Wen Ran feeling hungry, promptly watched over the fish in the pot with vigilance.

His comment earned him a kick from Mo Xiuchen, “Are you or are you not Ranran’s brother?”

“How cruel.”

Gu Kai, hopping on one leg, retreated, “Ranran, if you can smell the aroma upstairs, you must really be starving. If Xiu Chen can’t satisfy even basic needs, come home with me. You and Yiyi can eat this fish together.”

“Wishful thinking.”

Mo Xiuchen pulled Wen Ran closer, ignoring Gu Kai’s protests. He picked up a small piece of fish, blew on it a couple of times, and then fed it to Wen Ran, “Ranran, see if it’s good.”

“I won’t eat any more.”

Wen Ran chuckled softly and shook her head. Mo Xiuchen turned his head, giving Gu Kai a warning look, then continued to wait for her response, “Don’t fear him; this fish is our family’s.”

“It’s delicious, make another one for me later.”

Wen Ran hadn’t eaten much tonight, and after a short workout, she was indeed hungry.

Mo Xiuchen never declined Wen Ran’s requests. Since it was the weekend and he didn’t have work, he happily agreed, “Alright, I’ll prepare a bigger one for you later.”
