GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

She said, “If that is your wish, then you will get it. I just hope that you do not regret it. Either way, regardless of whatever challenges you face on the path you choose, know that the lamp bearers will always be there for you. We will always be there to help you to the best of our ability.”

He exhaled and sighed in relief before saying, “Thank you very much.”

She said, “You’re welcome. Feel free to ask me any questions you have.”

He pointed at the book that she had given him and said, “I see eleven pathways here. Are there only eleven pathways?”

He knows for sure that there are not eleven pathways. He doesn’t know the exact number of pathways available to godhood, but he knows that it should be more than 20 and could be up to 30.

Yet, he only saw eleven pathways in the list of options for him. He would like to know why it is only eleven.

She shook her head and said, “There are more than 30 pathways. But like I said, we, the lamp bearers, only control one pathway. The rest are unstable and dangerous.”

“We have filtered out the unstable ones and the ones too dangerous for people. We also removed the ones that will have the most negative effects on you even if you’re doing well in it. So these eleven are the curated ones that you shouldn’t have a problem with.”

He exclaimed lightly, “Oh, I see.”

Then he returned to going through the book.

He has already made up his mind. He is just going through the book for show. He wants to show that he has considered the problem seriously.

But he did learn something as he went through the list. He noticed that most of the pathways are free and don’t have true gods. As for the ones that aren’t free, their true gods are not crazy, and the pathway is not evil.

Speaking of evil pathways, all the pathways that are the nemesis of the judge pathway were absent. For example, he couldn’t see the pathway of error and the pathway of disorder available for selection.

This observation made him sneer inwardly. He thought to himself, “These people are not ready to make progress yet. If they are not willing to overcome their weaknesses, then they will never reach the top.”

The pathway of error and the pathway of disorder are two pathways that are at longer heads with the pathway of justice. Since the lamp bearers were already diversifying into other pathways, it made sense for them to acquire the power of their strongest enemies.

It made sense to only him, apparently. Apparently, it didn’t make much sense to the lamp bearers. It made him feel disdain for the lamp bearers.

After looking through the book for a while, he pointed to the pathway of killing and said, “I have made my decision. I choose this one.”

Her eye twitched when she saw his decision. She wanted to convince him to pick another pathway, but she hesitated because if something goes wrong with the pathway she suggests, she will be the one to blame for it. After all, she coerced him to pick it.

So she didn’t speak out against this pathway despite her problems with it. Besides, her current department doesn’t have any killers. So she would be gaining a new and useful helper.

She struggled to smile as she said, “I don’t know if I should congratulate you or not about your decision.”

He acted confused and asked, “Why? What is the problem?”

She replied, “The pathway of killing is one of the few pathways that we are fully informed about. We may not be in control of the pathway, but we know every formula and ascension step in that pathway. So you’re in luck because we will be able to offer you the maximum help possible.”

“The bad news is that the pathway of killing has a high rejection rate. It is difficult for lamp bearers to meet the requirements of killing people because we are law-abiding people. So most lamp bearers either have to stop ascending early on or risk mutation. If they mutate, we will have to kill them.”

He said, “Oh.”

She decided to ask one last time. “Are you sure you want this pathway? It is very difficult, and your chances of failure are high. There is a reason why there aren’t any killers in this place currently. So think about your choice again.”

He nodded. “I’ve made up my mind. I want the ability to be able to kill anything and anyone.”

He has to be in the pathway of undying. This pathway produces godclads who are the most difficult to kill.

This pathway to ascension will also be his most important pathway as it is related to his goal of becoming an Absolute. But he doesn’t want her to know that he is on the pathway of undying.

In fact, he doesn’t want anyone to know that he is on the pathway of undying. And since he has room for other pathways, he decided to use this extra room to put up a show for her and everyone else.

Of course, this show is real. He will be really picking another pathway to use on the surface. It is in this way that she will be fooled.

He decided to pick the pathway of killing because it is the direct opposite of his pathway. If the pathway of undying makes one difficult to kill, the pathway of killing makes one the best at killing.

Unlike the lamp bearers, he wants to rectify his weakness. He is determined to do so even though the god of justice killed the last god of killers.

The pathway of killing is just too tempting for him because the god of killers used to be the publicly acclaimed strongest god. That was before the god of justice killed him and became the strongest god.
