GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

As divine artifacts go, the bloody heart is worthy of their respect.

Legion-5 said, “It is worthy of being a divine artifact made from the body of a god.”

Legion-8 snickered and said, “And to think that the lamp bearers were using it just to communicate with each other. What a waste.”

Legion-3 shook his head and said, “I don’t think it was a waste for them. They couldn’t use the divine artifact in the first place. It is already great they managed to find a purpose for it.”

Legion-8 scoffed and said, “If you say so.”

The bloody heart is a very powerful divine ability. Because it is powerful, the requirements to use it are very high. For one, only a killer could use it. No other pathway can use it.

But this requirement is a trap. Any killer who uses the bloody heart will be eroded by it until they are forced to mutate. After all, the bloody heart was made from the flesh of a slain god.

Even ordinary divine artifacts made from the corpses of epic beings are dangerous to wield. Something like the Bloody Heart is simply a death trap. The more life force it absorbs as it is used, the faster the user will be eroded by it.

The first requirement to use the bloody heart is already difficult to meet. Even those who meet it won’t have a good ending. So to most lamp bearers, this divine artifact is useless.

So the lamp bearers found a use for it by dividing the flesh of the god of killing and using the mystical connection between the pieces to transfer information to each other.

They don’t have the problem of being eroded by the bloody heart. In fact, the bloody heart likes them very much.

The bloody heart likes them because it thinks they are the god of killing. It likes them so much that it is pointing out where the other pieces of the flesh of the god of killing are.

So not only can they sense the living things around them and kill those living things silently and slowly by siphoning their life force, they can also use the bloody heart to find other bloody hearts.

Already, they can sense a bloody heart approaching the Ivory Town. This piece is still far away. So they have time to plan to acquire it.

If they can acquire it, the power of the bloody heart will double. The speed of siphoning life force and the power of its perception will increase once it becomes more powerful.

In other words, the bloody heart is a divine artifact that can grow. Not only is it powerful, but it is also capable of growing stronger. There is no way they won’t be impressed by it.

They are impressed, but they don’t plan to get the bloody heart approaching Ivory Town for the time being. It is because it is too dangerous and because they can’t gain the most benefit out of the bloody heart until they reach rank 4 of the pathway of killing.

Because of the direction of the bloody heart and the speed with which it is approaching Ivory Town, they can come to the conclusion that the owner of that bloody heart is a lamp bearer, and if that lamp bearer is a captain like Sheckel, then the person must be at rank 4.

In any normal situation, they don’t want to kill a lamp bearer, as they will be cursed. But this is far from being a normal situation.

It is certain that the lamp bearers are coming to Ivory Town for revenge. Legion can guess that the owner of the bloody heart will be coming with an army.

So this situation is a war. They don’t want to be caught up in it and have to fight a rank 4 lamp bearer yet. This is why they want to leave the town.

The other reason why they are not eager to get caught up in the war just for the bloody heart is because they can’t use life force effectively yet.

Siphoning life force is just half of what they can do with the bloody heart. If they can’t use the life force that is siphoned, the other half of the power of the bloody heart will go to waste.

They won’t be able to use life force for anything until they become rank 4 killers. Even then, their use of force will still be far behind what rank 7 godclads can do.

All in all, they don’t see the reason to mess in the war between nobles and lamp bearers and fight. An extra bloody heart just isn’t worth the risk and danger currently.

That doesn’t mean that they won’t try to see if they can pick up a bargain. But they won’t try too hard to get the bloody heart. They will only make a move to grab it if it is lying on the ground unattended.

Even then, they still have to make sure that they can escape with it instantly. They would rather not take the bloody heart if it will expose their traces. This is how much caution they have to take in this situation.

While they were on their way to their slaves, they finalized the process of cutting the bloody heart away from the bloody network.

They didn’t want to receive messages from other lamp bearers through it, and they didn’t want to remain connected to their network, as such a connection can be used to find or sabotage them.

They weren’t exactly the ones who cut off the connection. All they did was to instruct the bloody heart to cut it off completely.

The connection was forged into the bloody heart and rugged by a powerful godclad. It is not something that they could cut. But it became possible to cut it off thanks to their superb relationship with the bloody heart.

Instead of using brute force to cut off its connection to the blood network, they just asked the bloody heart nicely and it obliged.
