Chapter 2278: Conspiracy Theories.
The rhythmic snoring lulled him into a deeper state of mind where he was able to ignore the perception of his environment and focus on the topic in his mind.
In this state, there was no distraction. Because there was no distraction, the full might of his mind could be brought to bear to solve the problem he was fixated on.
He was in this state of mind for a long time. During that time, his eyes were closed, his breathing shallow, and his heart beat slow as a crawl.
Eventually, he came to a conclusion. When he did, his body recovered to its normal state as he said the conclusion out loud, “If we are to expand and recruit more epic beings, we need something to bind us together and make us work together, or we will doom ourselves.”
Then he shook his head and said, “I can’t think of anything that can do that safely and without severe repercussions.”
He, like many others, has done their research on the Golden Hammer gang. So he knows that just three months ago, the Golden Hammer gang was a small gang with control over one territory and three rank 3 leaders who worked well together.
He knows that these three leaders were friends and remained friends even when they advanced to rank 4. This is understandable, but according to common sense, the three of them will break up soon in order to enjoy the full benefits of their status.
But not only did they not break up, they also recruited more rank 3 godclads and helped them become epic beings. And eight of them continued to work together.
This is what he can tell on the surface. He doesn’t know exactly what happened under the surface that made eight epic beings suddenly appear in a small gang and then made these eight beings work together.
Whatever happened that compelled the eight of them to work together is a mystery to him and many others. But he suspects that there was an impetus that led to the appearance of what can be seen on the surface.
He and many others suspect that there was someone or something that helped the initial three leaders advance safely and helped the five new leaders to advance and make all of them work together. Their suspicion is that the source of the impetus is a telepath.
There are many theories about how the telepath got them to work together; some of them are pleasant, like motivating with benefits, and other theories are negative, like forcing the eight of them to work together through my control, but no one has been able to replicate the feat.
Mind control is the prevalent theory because the telepath had chosen to work with rank 3 godclads that are easy to control rather than epic beings. If the telepath had a benefit that could motivate epic beings, he or she should have directly chosen to work with epic beings right from the start.
At this stage, it has also been considered that the person making the eight godclad work together is a slaver. But this theory has been discounted because a slaver should only be able to control a maximum of five or even six people in special cases, not eight.
Anyone that has done any research will find out that slavers gain one slot for the mastery milestones at 1%, 10%, 20%, 50%, and 100%, which makes five slaves. Only those who are very compatible with the pathway and have the potential of becoming godlings on their own will unlock two slots at 100% for a total of six.
Whether it is five or six slave slots, the slaver must have 100% mastery. 100% mastery is something that is usually seen in legends.
Actually, legends are the minimum stage at which 100% mastery can be seen. Only people who have lived for that long can gain 100% mastery in a divine ability. But not all legends have 100% mastery.
So if it is a slaver that is controlling all eight of them, this slaver will be more powerful than a legend. It might even be the god of slave masters. No one believes that it is the case.
No one believes that a legend has taken to controlling a gang in the outer city. It is actually more plausible that the god of slavers is controlling a gang in the outer city, as gods can do anything they want and don’t need to be reasonable about it, but not only is this far-fetched, there also isn’t a god in the pathway of slavery.
So the conspiracy theorist had to give up on the idea that it is a slaver that is controlling the Golden Hammer gang. This leaves them with the theory of mind control by a telepath. But they still don’t know how a telepath managed to gain control and keep control of eight epic beings in three months.
The more Black Axe thought about it, the more confused he became. He couldn’t help but frown and say, “Maybe we are looking at this from the wrong point of view. If it looks impossible, maybe that’s because it is impossible.”
His eyes lit up when he thought of this. He said aloud with excitement, “If it looks impossible to control eight epic beings in such a short amount of time without a lifetime of brainwashing, maybe it is truly impossible. Maybe the simple answer is that there is a benefit motivating them to work together.”
“Yes. That could be it. The fact that we don’t know the benefit doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.”
Then he frowned and asked again, “But what benefit could it be? What could be better than money and authority to motivate epic beings?”
He began listing them out. “There is power. And there is…”
He couldn’t list out any more reasons. He shook his head and said, “I can only think of power. Their motivation for working together shouldn’t be wealth seeing as they are too many to share the income they have.”
