Chapter 2390: Purchase of Exclusive Brush ⑲
<Author’s Notes>
Since I have personal matters tomorrow and won’t be able to return home, the next update will be the day after tomorrow.
Good fortune and misfortune, though they seem opposed, they can sometimes coexist. In a way, it could be called good fortune; in another, misfortune…… Such was Cornelia’s state of mind.
Cornelia was nearing her limit. Without the mental resilience that Eris possessed, the rapid torrent of events had become an enormous strain on her. She was already at the point that could only be described as a capacity overload.
If something were to push her just a little more here, Cornelia would likely have reached her limit and lost consciousness. However, that did not happen.
To begin with, the current conversation had a time limit. Yes, the time limit being the band’s performance start time……
[Magnawell-sama, forgive me for interrupting your conversation. Time-wise, it would be best if we entered soon……]
[Oh, yes, indeed. It would be quite the folly to talk for too long and end up late for the performance’s start, wouldn’t it?]
With Eingana suggesting that they should begin entering soon, the conversation came to an end. Whether this should be seen as good fortune for allowing Cornelia to avoid fainting, or misfortune for preventing her from escaping by fainting, was debatable…… but anyhow, Cornelia was simply relieved that the conversation had finally come to a pause.
[Oh, right. Kaito, where’s your seat? I plan to sit next to you.][Eh? No, um, aren’t the seats assigned?]
[Yeah! That’s why I’m asking for your seat number, so I can politely “negotiate” with whoever’s sitting beside you to swap seats.]
[……Negotiate?]
Hearing something that sounded far more like a command to switch seats than a negotiation, Kaito looked at her with a somewhat indescribable expression, while Cornelia quietly turned her thoughts over.
(My seat is next to Kaito-sama’s, so if I switched, that would be the most peaceful solution…… No, wait. In that case, I’d end up sitting in the seat Megiddo-sama was supposed to occupy…… meaning I’d be next to Magnawell-sama, wouldn’t I? T- That’s far too much…… my heart wouldn’t be able to take it……)
Since switching seats with Megiddo carried too great a risk, Cornelia decided, for the time being, to say nothing. She decided she would comply only if Megiddo himself asked her to switch……
However, Megiddo had no intention of asking Cornelia to switch. From her perspective, Cornelia was currently on a date with Kaito, and she had no intention of disturbing it. Thus, she planned to sit on the seat opposite Cornelia.
[So, where is it? If it’s an aisle seat, I’ll just sit behind……]
[Errr, it’s this seat.]
[Unn? Oh! What do you know, it’s right next to mine! That saves me the trouble!]
Seeing Megiddo nod happily, Kaito suddenly recalled Alice, the one who had sold him the ticket. Knowing her, she had likely arranged the seats with this very situation in mind. He now felt he understood the reason behind the mischievous smile she’d given him at the time.
Had he not coincidentally met Nidzveld and Eingana at the café, he would have ended up encountering Megiddo and Magnawell the moment he took his seat, which surely would have startled him. Thinking such things, Kaito entered the concert hall together with Cornelia and the others.
And from a distance, watching the scene unfold, Anne took out her hummingbird and sent an urgent message back to the Sharon County.
In the study of the Sharon County, the Count himself and Anne’s husband, his close aide, were working on matters related to their trading company.
[The Lord Trading Company has been rather active lately…… If we don’t keep an eye on them, there could be major shifts in the economy.]
[Indeed. Rumor has it they’re even considering transactions with the Hamilton Marquisdom…… Unn? Pardon me, a hummingbird message from my wife……]
[She should be accompanying Cornelia as her escort today…… Is it an emergency?]
Needless to say, Anne was an exceptionally capable maid and someone deeply trusted by Count Sharon. She would never send a private message during working hours. That meant she had judged this matter too urgent to wait until her return and deemed it necessary to report immediately, implying that the contents were of considerable importance.
[……Errr, Lady Cornelia has…… huh? Eh?]
[What is it?]
[Ah, errr, well…… Lady Cornelia has encountered War King-sama, Dragon King-sama, Sky Dragon-sama, and Sea Dragon-sama, and, with an introduction from Miyama Kaito-sama, was permitted to greet them with her family name.]
[……Wait a moment…… my brain refuses to process that…… W- W- W- What do you mean!? Cornelia was supposed to be out guiding Miyama Kaito-sama to the Victor Trading Company, wasn’t she…… How in the world did War King-sama and Dragon King=sama pop out of the story!?]
[I- I don’t know. I believe we’ll receive a detailed report in sequence soon, but……]
[F- For now, cancel all our upcoming appointments! Depending on the situation, we may have to take major action ourselves!]
The Count could not even begin to imagine how his daughter, who was supposed to be guiding Kaito to the Victor Trading Company, had ended up encountering two of the Six Kings along with two of their Executives, and even been allowed to introduce herself formally.
As a cold bead of sweat ran down his back, Count Sharon recalled a certain incident. Just a few days prior, at a meeting that had been set to take place at the Hamilton Marquisdom, he had seen Marquis Hamilton and Eris both looking deeply worried for the Ritch Barony couple…… And now, a shiver ran down his spine as he felt a dreadful premonition…… perhaps he was about to find himself in the very same position as Baron Ritch just had.
<Afterword>
Serious-senpai : [Ah, right, Anne can also not enter the concert hall and send a message back huh……]
