Infinite Mana In The Apocalypse

Chapter 4258: A Glorious Engineer! I

Chapter 4258: A Glorious Engineer! I

A defective Elderborn, being escorted out of the Early Laboratories like a failed experiment.

But this was... Schrodinger!

Yet it also wasn’t. This crestfallen, apathetic figure, who wore the face of the man who had set him on this impossible path, did not radiate the chaotic, flickering authority of a Living Paradox.

Instead, a steady, calm, and profoundly powerful aura of a Living Concept permeated the space around him.

As Noah’s gaze, now a thing of Quadrillion-level intensity, settled on him, this ’defective’ Schrodinger also turned his head.

He gazed back, and in his eyes, there was not the playful, knowing light Noah had come to associate with the name.

There was only a deep, apathetic sense of loss, a profound, soul-deep weariness. And as he saw Noah standing beside the formidable Commander Elara, a flicker of something else crossed his face: longing. A desperate, almost painful wish that he could be in Noah’s position.

And then, surrounded by the silent, towering figures of the Early Creatures, his form faded away behind the maze-like white walls, a ghost of a man who was and was not.

"Do not pity them too much," Elara’s sharp voice cut through Noah’s silent contemplation. "The defective ones are a necessary part of the process. They provide valuable data on the failure points of our augmentations."

She turned her crimson eyes, now burning with a renewed, focused purpose, back to him. "If you truly want to aid him, and the countless other Living Existences and Fold Dwellers who will be caught in the coming storm, you will help us. You will aid in the research of THE Living Concept and get these Living Existential Armors working."

Noah’s eyes remained sharp, his mind a silent engine of analysis. The Schrodinger anomaly was a puzzle piece that did not fit, a contradiction that demanded to be understood.

Analysis of the ’Schrodinger’ Anomaly.

Observation: A being visually and existentially similar to Asset ’Schrödinger’ has been identified in this temporal period, designated as a ’defective Elderborn’ and a [Living Concept].

Problem: This contradicts the known data of Asset ’Schrodinger’ existing in the current era as a [Living Paradox].

Hypothesis 1 (The Quantum Observer Effect): Due to his unique nature, Asset ’Schrodinger’ may not be a singular entity, but a being who exists in a superposition of multiple identities and authorities. His state as a ’Paradox’ or a ’Concept’ may be dependent on the observer, the time period, or his own strategic intent.

Hypothesis 2 (The Elderborn Exception): His unique status as an Elderborn may grant him the ability to manifest different aspects of his being as separate, distinct existences. This would be an unprecedented level of control over one’s own existential makeup.

Conclusion: Insufficient data. Asset ’Schrodinger’ remains a significant and unpredictable variable in all current projections.

WAA!

Noah listened to the possibilities presented by RUIN/EDEN.

In his mind, Khor’s ancient, weary thoughts also echoed.

’Maybe that is why I recognized the Paradox in the Concordat. Because I had seen another of his faces in this age. But those I saw and remember are few. His actual standing... is unique.’

He nodded at this internal chorus of analysis.

His attention returned to Elara, who had waved her hands, causing a few of the incomplete Living Existential Armors to float around her like silent, skeletal sentinels.

"Let’s go," she said, her voice a sharp, impatient command.

She began to walk, leading him deeper into the labyrinth of the Early Laboratories.

As they moved, she spoke, her voice a running commentary on the grand, sterile architecture around them.

"The raw Early Omnichalcum and other primordial materials are stored in the sub-levels. The Assistants, Elderborns like you, have their personal workshops in the outer rings, where you can process your designs and experiment on smaller-scale applications."

Her pace was brisk, her purpose clear. "We are currently heading to the Omega Lab, the central research laboratory. It is where the Research Commanders, beings like myself, work directly under Dr. Flamel."

The name was spoken with a reverence that was a stark contrast to her usual, clinical tone.

Noah’s eyes flashed with a sharp, inquisitive light. "Dr. Flamel?"

"An Elderborn of unfathomable wonder," Elara said, her crimson eyes shining with a rare, almost zealous, light. "An existence to whom all other Elderborns should bow. It was Dr. Flamel who first achieved a stable resonance with the Omnichalcum, who understood THE Living Concept’s ideals, and who forged the very first schematics of the Living Existential Armor."

At such words, Noah’s mind raced.

An Elderborn so powerful that even a 500 Quadrillion complexity Fold Dweller spoke of them with such awe. And all of them...worked under THE Living Concept!

"Does THE Living Concept come and check on your work often?"

The question was a carefully cast line into a deep, dark ocean. He needed to calculate just how screwed he might be, just how quickly he would need to leave if a being of that scale were to appear.

A meeting with a Level One existence could, and likely would, mean instant annihilation.

Elara laughed, a short, sharp sound of genuine amusement. "Why would such an Esteemed being come here? We are the hands, the tools. When we have findings worthy of their attention, we go to them to report."

Noah’s internal tension eased, just slightly.

So, the master of the house wasn’t home!

They arrived at a new, vast clearing. At its center was a structure built of the same crystalline glass and white metal as the one before, but this one was far larger, a great, circular edifice that seemed to hum with a contained, intellectual power.

"This is the Omega Lab," Elara said. "Much of it is underground, where the most sensitive experiments are conducted."

As they approached, more than a dozen Early Creatures, their forms clad in simple, functional white robes that did little to hide their immense power, could be seen moving around the periphery as guards.

One of them, a being of pure, solidified sound that communicated in silent, resonant chimes, moved to intercept them.

"Dr. Flamel has ordered no entry at this moment for anyone," its thoughts were a clear, unyielding bell in their minds. "They are on the cusp of a breakthrough."

Elara’s eyes shone with a mixture of excitement and a deep, profound annoyance.

She turned and gave Noah a look that was a perfect, silent accusation.

If she hadn’t been dealing with him, this new, unverified specimen, she would have been in there, a part of that grand breakthrough.

She sighed, the sound a soft hiss of frustration. "Well," she said, her tone clipped, "let’s just go to my personal lab for now. It is not too far from here. We can try to put your power as an Elderborn to some preliminary work."

She turned and led him across the clearing, to another of the tall, white walls that surrounded them.

Across thr Omega Lab, to the right, among one of thelarge white walls.

In it was a single, raised doorway of white metal.

Elara placed her hand upon it, and with a silent, willing hum, it opened, revealing a pristine white staircase that spiraled down into the darkness.

She and Noah began to descend.

As they did, Elara turned, a flicker of something almost like curiosity in her crimson eyes.

"Elderborn," she said, as if just realizing a glaring oversight in her own, usually flawless, methodology. "I just realized I didn’t even ask who you were."

Noah looked up at her, a slow, calm smile spreading across his face.

"Osmont," he said, his voice a quiet, resonant note that seemed to fill the stairwell with a new, unspoken weight.

"Noah Osmont."
