Chapter 506:
Souvenirs
The successful lending of the teleportation magic tool and magic bag—though the latter ended up being a loan instead of a gift due to Cedric-san’s strong opposition—was settled, and we moved to the lounge. It was time to share our latest adventure story with Theodore-kun and Latis-kun as promised.
The members present were us, Cedric-san, Patrick-san, Theodore-kun, and Latis-kun. Since dining with the lord’s family wouldn’t allow for much relaxation, Matthew-san, Lancer-san, and Eugene, who had finished their meal in a separate room, also joined us. Loretta-chan, however, was getting sleepy and returned to her room with Olivie-san.
“So this is the new brew~? It’s delicious.”
“Whoa… this is too strong for me.”
The adults started drinking, but Eugene grimaced after tasting the vodka.
“Eugene, hold on a sec.”
I diluted the vodka with Oren fruit juice. Let’s see… this would be a Screwdriver, right?
“How about this?”
“This is much easier to drink! I can handle this. Actually, it’s yummy!”I can’t drink vodka straight either. In fact, I’ve barely had any experience with vodka at all.
“Next… maybe this one.”
I mixed it with homemade ginger ale and Raine fruit juice. That should make it a Moscow Mule, right?
“Whoa! What is this!? It’s fizzy!?”
“Takumi-san, I’d like to try that too.”
“Ah, Allen wants to drink too!”
“Elena too, Elena wants a fizzy drink!”
Since carbonated drinks aren’t common here, everyone except Eugene was fascinated.
I made more Moscow Mules for them—except for the children, of course. For them, I used jam, fruit-infused water, or even just ginger ale.
“This is amazing. What exactly is this?”
“It’s something called carbonated water. There’s a lake where naturally fizzy water springs up. Oh, and don’t worry, it’s harmless to the human body.”
“I wouldn’t expect you to bring out anything harmful, Takumi-san, so I’m not worried.”
… Does that mean I have a good reputation when it comes to food?
“This is such a strange drink! But it’s delicious.”
“I like it!”
Theodore-kun and Latis-kun seemed fine with carbonation. Some people just can’t handle it.
Oh, looks like Matthew-san is one of them—he’s coughing a lot.
“Oh, adding ice cream might be good too.”
“”Let’s do that!””
“I want to add some too!”
“Me too!”
When I muttered about turning it into a float with vanilla ice cream, the kids reacted immediately. So, I made fruit soda floats for them.
When I think of floats, I picture cola or melon soda, but I can’t make either yet. I might be able to create melon soda by making syrup from Ron fruit, so I’ll try that next time.
“You found this while adventuring, right!?”
“”That’s right~””
When I told the story of discovering the carbonated lake, Theodore-kun and Latis-kun listened with sparkling eyes.
“That’s amazing!”
“What else? What else did you find?”
“”Ah!””
“We have something great!”
“A souvenir!”
“”What is it!?””
Allen and Elena suddenly remembered something.
“”Oniichan, branches! The branches!””
“Oh, right, we picked some as souvenirs.”
We had made sure to secure the four types of gemstone branches from the Dungeon of Precious Stones for the Risner family.
“Wait a minute! By ‘branches,’ do you mean the ones from the Dungeon of Precious Stones!?”
“That’s right.”
“You can’t just give that away as a souvenir!”
“”Why not?””
“Why not!? I mean, those are extremely valuable!”
“”But it’s fine, right~?””
Patrick-san, who had actually seen the branches before, hurriedly tried to stop the kids. But they just tilted their heads in confusion. They didn’t seem to understand why something expensive shouldn’t be given as a gift.
“Haha, Patrick-san, do you think you can win against the kids?”
“……”
Patrick-san fell silent, so I took out the branches from my Infinite Storage and handed them to the kids.
“Here they are.”
“”Aren’t they beautiful~?””
“Whoa, they’re so pretty.”
“Here you go.”
“……!! Theodore, Latis! You can’t accept that!”
Cedric-san frantically tried to stop them, but he hesitated for just a moment when he saw the branches. And in that moment, the branches ended up in Theodore-kun and Latis-kun’s hands.
“Father, are we not even allowed to hold them?”
“Oh, is it because we touched them with bare hands?”
“……”
Cedric-san must be thinking that once they accept them, we’ll force them to keep them… which is exactly what we intend to do.
“Haha.”
“”You can have them.””
When I smiled, Allen and Elena delivered the final blow.
Cedric-san slumped in defeat.
“… Takumi-san, you’re just showing them, right?”
“Please, take them without hesitation.”
“It’s not hesitation… I really do want to return them…”
“If you get tired of them, feel free to sell them.”
“There’s no way we could sell these! That would cause an uproar.”
“It’ll be fine! Somehow, it’ll work out.”
It worked out for me! Though, that was only because it happened on-site, and Chris-san and Ethan-dono were so competent that my involvement stayed hidden.
If gemstone branches were suddenly sold in a city far from the dungeon, would it cause a commotion?
Well, that’s just speculation—there’s no guarantee it would actually happen.
Still, Cedric-san probably won’t sell them.
“The dungeon is becoming a tourist attraction, isn’t it~?”
“I want to go there too!”
“”Wanna go together?””
While Cedric-san was worrying, Allen and Elena were enthusiastically telling Theodore-kun and Latis-kun about the Dungeon of Precious Stones. They even invited them to visit.
“… Theodore, Latis. They really don’t understand how serious this is, do they?”
Seeing his sons excitedly listening, Cedric-san slumped once more.
Maybe, to the kids, gemstone branches were just pretty objects?
Theodore-kun is old enough to understand the value of gemstones, but since he isn’t skilled at appraising them, he probably doesn’t grasp how valuable these particular ones are.
No one actually called them gemstones either.
“Hang in there, Cedric-san!”
Well, I guess I need to properly educate Allen and Elena about value too.
