Chapter 1350: Lackey’s Origin Card

Chapter 1350: Lackey’s Origin Card

Origin Cards? Unlike others, Aether didn’t have one. He didn’t know why, or for what reason he didn’t have one, but he didn’t care.

But now, he was on edge—Rosavere was asking for his Origin Card.

Noticing Aether’s hesitation, Rosavere shook her head.

“I know you want to keep your identity hidden, but as of right now, this product holds much more worth than anything. I cannot hand it over to just anyone without knowing who you truly are.

I am fine with you hiding your face, but I really must see your Origin Card. Otherwise, I am sorry—I cannot give this to you.”

Aether clicked his tongue inwardly before answering, “Well, I don’t mind showing my Origin Card, but… is it truly necessary? What are you planning to do with it? Does it matter that much?” He tilted his head, watching her carefully. “In fact, I’m fine with showing my face if that would make things easier.” He shrugged, almost as if he couldn’t care less about hiding his identity… Wait a second, wasn’t Aether going to become an Emperor?

And if she knew he was doing this, wouldn’t she back off?

Fuck, he was really stuck against the wall!!

However, to his surprise, Rosavere shook her head again, a soft sigh escaping her lips.

“I am sorry, but unfortunately, only your Origin Card can be validated—not even your face. Faces can be disguised, illusions can be cast, but the Origin Card cannot lie.”

Aether blinked in surprise… then gritted his teeth, torn between irritation and uncertainty.

What should he do now?

Should he just give up? Or…

[Ask for a Contract!]

Aether was surprised by his Log suddenly responding after a long silence. ’Oh? You’re still alive in there?’

[Tsk. Just ask for her official contract. Demand that both Goddesses be named. State that you are acting as their agent, as in a proper corporate company contract. Make it official, binding.]

Aether blinked and frowned, ’Corporate?’

[Just do it. I’ll handle the rest once she accepts.]

Aether stared at his Log for a few more seconds before finally saying, “Fine… But before that, I need to see a contract. I want it official and in writing.”

Rosavere raised her eyebrows, her expression flickering between surprise and curiosity. “A contract?”

“Yes. Make an official contract, stating that I’m working with your company. I want the terms clear….. ” He explained the clause and terms. As he spoke, Rosavere listened closely, surprise and confusion shifting across her face.

“Are you sure about this?” she asked, “It sounds like you’re making yourself a slave to my company, or something even stranger…” she muttered.

Aether inwardly cried, the irony bitter in his mind.

’That’s how corporate companies work,’ he thought. He couldn’t believe he was giving his head directly, asking for her to cut him!

’Log, are you really sure about this?’

But this time, his Log didn’t answer him.

Aether bit his lips. Was it worth it? It’s not like he needed to obey her words absolutely—he just needed to do the work for her company, on his terms.

Rosavere shrugged her shoulders before pressing the bell. The small chime echoed through the office. As the receptionist appeared, Rosavere calmly asked for an official company contract.

Aether filled out the contract by hand, each word forming slowly beneath his pen, just as Rosavere insisted… she wanted to be absolutely certain it was his own doing, not hers, no tricks or substitutions.

After finishing all the contract details, Aether gulped, a nervous sweat on his brow.

’Damn, this really looks like a contract for a company slave!’ he thought, his heart pounding, hesitating as he held the pen over the signature line.

Should he sign it?

He glanced at the gun lying on the table, then back at Rosavere’s composed face.

Fuck it!

He scrawled his signature with a sharp stroke, pushed the contract over the polished surface, and watched as Rosavere took it in her slender hands, reading every line before signing her own name with a flourish.

She pressed her company seal down with a sharp motion, “Now you’re officially one of my subordinates… Though honestly, I’m confused. Why are we even doing all this?” She looked at him.

Aether replied, “I need to make sure everything is official. I didn’t want to risk the wrath of the rulers, right? Better safe than sorry.”

Rosavere raised her eyebrows, a small grin curving her lips. “Not bad. If anything goes wrong, Mr. Lackey can just blame everything on Rosavere’s company and me. You’d be off the hook.” She gave a slow nod, appreciating the cleverness of the move, her respect for Aether quietly growing.

Nice move, honestly!

Rosavere smiled wider, “You even included both Goddesses in the contract… Looks like you actually know how these cards work, unlike all those poor fools fumbling around. Hah, impressive.”

Aether looked slightly confused by her words. What did she mean, exactly?

“Origin,” Rosavere said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. Her chest began to glow, a silvery-white light swirling over her heart, ethereal and mesmerising. Her Origin Card shimmered into existence in her hand, and she placed it directly on top of the contract.

Aether frowned, uncertain what she was doing. Why was she combining the contract with her Origin Card? Before he could ask, she murmured a quick incantation under her breath.

In an instant, the contract dissolved into sparkling particles and vanished, the magic being absorbed into her card, binding the agreement.

’What the fuck? What just happened?’ Aether stared in confusion, watching as the last sparks faded away. Just then—

Aether turned silent, lost in thought, as Rosavere glanced at her Origin Card. She noticed the small number at the right corner suddenly increase by one. A soft, satisfied smirk played on her lips before she turned her attention back to Mr. Lackey, who seemed utterly absorbed in his own thoughts.

“Hello? Mr. Lackey?—” Rosavere called out, but suddenly her words trailed off as she saw a strange light flicker. Mr. Lackey’s chest glowed furiously before, right in front of her eyes, a swirl of black and white particles shimmered in the air, and a card materialised, hovering in front of him.

Aether stared at the card floating before him. He reached out and took it, scanning the surface for a moment. After a second, he handed the card to Rosavere.

Rosavere blinked, her eyebrows arching upward as she accepted the card from Aether’s hand. She studied it carefully,

“Oh? Everything is half—fifty across the board, not bad, I suppose. And… ’Trader from Rosavere Private Company’? Hah… That’s good,” she hummed, a thoughtful expression on her face. Her eyes flicked over the left side of the card; she didn’t see any stars there, and the number on the right side was just zero.

She hummed again,

“So your name is really Lackey? Huh…” she muttered in a surprised tone.

As for the picture in the middle of the card, it looked like a shifting mist of black and white, impossible to make out clearly. Whatever it was, Rosavere guessed it might be his desired weapon. “Anyway,” she said, putting the card aside, “I’ll keep this card for the time being.” She slipped it carefully into the top drawer of her desk, locking it away with a click.

Aether glanced at the drawer but didn’t say a word. Rosavere reached for the gun and handed it back to him, her tone suddenly cold as she raised her hand in a formal gesture.

“Well then, welcome to our company, Mr. Lackey. Even if you work for me, you’ll always be treated special—so please don’t hesitate to ask me anything you need.”

Aether nodded, a genuine smile spreading across his face as he shook her hand. “I’m happy to work with you,” he said.

“Me too. Let’s hope for a better future for both of us,” she replied, her eyes glinting with something dangerous.

Aether hesitated for a moment before asking, “Did… something happen to you? I mean, you look different than before…. You seem changed.”

Rosavere blinked, then offered a small smile, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes.

“I didn’t change, not really. I just… saw the world for what it is, and realized how cruel it could be. When you’re betrayed by the people you trust most, it makes you see the real world even more clearly.”

“Uh-huh…” Aether murmured, not sure what else to say.

“Hah… don’t worry, I’m not like the others. I would never betray you,” she said, but her eyes turned ice cold in that moment.

“Unless you betray me first.”

Aether just smiled, not saying anything more… Yup, she’d been betrayed—and now, she was different.

Damn, things really happened fast when he wasn’t looking!
