Chapter 473: We All Die!
Chapter 473: We All Die!
It was time to prove their devotion…
“FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!” Eyes red, the 12th Legion clamored as they turned around and started killing in the confusion. Why would they escape when they could kill?!
They literally threw themselves at the enemies.
For an instant, they didn’t look like lizards but ravenous beasts eager for blood. In fact, they were so focused on killing that they even forgot their original goal.
[+ 1 Lizard Eliminated!]
[+ 1 Lizard Eliminated!]
[+ 1 Lizard Eliminated!]
…
The message kept chiming, but they ignored it all.
In fact, they were being so savage that the enemies unconsciously cowered in fear. What was wrong with those bastards?! Did they not fear death? Obviously not!
It started akin to a wildfire…
“Retreat! Get back to the 7th Legion!”
“No, fight! They’ll slaughter us all otherwise!”
“Crap, what the hell are you guys doing?! We need to—”
For a solid minute, it was a one-sided slaughter, the 12th Legion’s momentum impossible to stop. They were akin to a natural phenomenon. But even that didn’t last long.
As if a tornado running out of wind, they slowly but surely halted.
They had killed so many that the mere corpses were enough to hinder them long enough to allow the enemies to regroup. And with this the momentum completely died.
“Look at them, they’re already tired!”
“Now’s the time to counterattack!”
“Death to the 12th Legion!”
The lizards who had been running everywhere mere moments ago bared their fangs, and the slaughter resumed, with the 12th Legion the one on the receiving end this time.
In a matter of seconds, their numbers started dwindling…
“Oh, great white one, please give me the strength!”
“Three Eyes, what now?! What should we do?!”
“That’s it. Keep slashing them!”
There was nothing more to do but to crowd in a defensive formation. As they huddled up together, countless spectators outside couldn’t help but gasp.
“Why’s this formation so familiar?”
“Wait, isn’t it the 2nd Legion’s move?!”
“When did they even get the time to practice?!”
Many who had been watching for a good while felt like they had been bamboozled. How were they doing a perfect turtle formation out of thin air?!
One had to know that the 2nd Legion had trained together for a little while. Never in their wildest dreams could they have known that this was all an effect of drinking Jack’s blood.
Sadly for the spectators, they had missed the key moment since no one had been expecting anything from the 12th Legion back then. But in any case it still didn’t change anything.
In the back, the 7th Leader cried out excitingly:
“That’s it, just like that! Encircle them all and make sure none can leave! Keep them there and rotate the waves to exhaust the little fight they still had in them.
And the more they fought, the harder it got. By now, the 12th Legion was rife with injuries, many missing limbs, and enough scales to make an entirely new dragon.
Pain coursed through their bodies, and yet they still fought.
“We can’t give up just yet. Not without his blessing.”
“There’s only a couple thousand remaining!”
“Yes, just a couple thousand.”
Wasn’t that the initial number of lizards?! Yes, it was. At this point, they were losing so much blood that they were losing their minds. And yet they still fought.
“What kind of crazy mind-control magic is this?! Surrender already! Why aren’t you surrendering? This doesn’t make any sense!” The 7th Leader shouted angrily.
He would make them pay, for sure!
But before he could, there was suddenly a change on the battlefield. The once lifeless Lizards suddenly seemed to have drunk rejuvenation potions as they cackled.
“Hehe, so what if there’s endless of them?”
“It’s time for the last finish!”
“Great White One!”
[Ding! Completed an Objective!]
[Enough Lizards Have Died!]
[Now Destroy Cores!]
They had done it! Relief and pride overflowed from their beings as they cheered. And yet, it didn’t change anything. The enemies were still attacking, and they were still half dead.
Trembling, one couldn’t stop himself from bawling…
“Don’t tell me something happened?!” He didn’t care for his own safety but rather for Jack’s wellbeing. Was the lack of special effect from completing the mission because he was hurt?!
A vivid mind pictured their god crucified and forced to return to the godly realm, and he felt rage and despair overwhelm him. But just as he was freaking out.
“SNAP!”
A certain three-eyed lizard snapped his fingers.
Somehow, the sound resounded across the battlefield, so crisp and crystalline that it didn’t seem to belong. And that was the start of it all. With this, IT happened.
The few mages in the 12th Legion raised their hands hands and… BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Started targeting the sky, creating uselessly weak but very flashy magic.
In fact, they looked almost like fireworks.
Jack raised his head, nodding approvingly, but he wasn’t the only one. A distance away, a certain lizard hiding in a hidden base saw it too, except for him, it was a signal.
With a mighty swing, he utterly smashed the Core next to him!
[The Eight Legion Have Lost Their Core!]
[Eight Legion Now Eliminated!]
[You Have 5 Minutes!]
The Legion that had allied with the 12th Legion and had merged with them never had their core destroyed! And this came at the worst timing possible.
Just when the 12th Legion was about to die…
[Ding! 6th Legion Have Been Eliminated!]
[Congratulations on Survi—]
All of a sudden, there was a hiccup, the system seemingly pausing before updating itself in a horrifying twist of fate.
[ERROR… Need More Than 50% of Legions Eliminated!]
Wait what?! Hadn’t the mission said 50% of Legions back then?! But that’s when a certain three-eyed lizard understood. There had been too many alliances.
The bug had to come from that!
The Anti-Jack Alliance was one and yet counted as many, probably because of their special arrangements. Even the defeated Legions still had their power relatively intact!
As long as the Alliance existed, then succeeding was impossible. Two lizards understood this at the same time. “Pfft— Three Eyes, you’re DEAD!” “It appears so…”
Along with the weird twist, there was a respite. For a moment, the 12th Legion Commander and the 7th Legion Leader stared at each other, the latter clearly the victor.
The soon-to-be-dead lizard suddenly sighed…
“Guess it’s the end then. Take care.”
He said goodbye to his brothers in arms, and then his body suddenly went soft?! Then, a second later, his spirit escaped his body and flew away?!
“Is he fleeing?! Coward!” but then they suddenly realized where he was going.
“OH GOD, NO!!! Kill them! Hack his body to pieces! Make him disappear! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!” the 7th leader screamed at the top of his lungs.
Sadly for him, even on the brink of death, the 12th Legion still stood valiantly! They’d buy all the time a certain three-eyed lizard needed! Thus, the killing resumed.
Blood flowed, corpses piled up, but that didn’t matter. All that mattered was a ghost arriving at the 7th base and started slashing at their core.
[Physical Attack Required!]
[A Ghost Cannot Shatter a Core!]
[This is a Futile Endeavor! Please Stop!]
“My god, thank you for everything.” That’s all he said, but it was full of emotion as he rammed his ghostly body directly at the core! Then, his ghostly self got absorbed.
[ERROR! Fused With the 7th Legion Core?!]
And that’s when he released all the emotions he didn’t have time to express. His gratitude, his hope, his rage, and especially his eagerness for Jack’s vision.
“Hehe. Today, we die.” He chuckled as he self-imploded.
[Ding! The 7th Legion Core Has Been Destroyed!]
’My God, I did good, right?’ He smiled…
