Chapter 1703: The Last Step

Chapter 1703: The Last Step

After both Valyr and Ataraxia informed their respective contacts that they were finally going to undergo ascension, the two sat beside one another once more, this time facing each other.

“So… how much XP did you earn this past week?” Taking the time to catch his breath as he composed himself, Valyr looked at his other self with curiosity as he asked him a question.

“Is it enough to push us to the peak of Rank 5?”

“Who knows?” Hearing those words, Ataraxia faintly chuckled as he shrugged his shoulders. “The only way to find that out is for you to check the amount of XP we have yourself.”

Noticing the slightly teasing tone in the former’s words, Valyr immediately understood that the amount Ataraxia was able to amass during the past week was definitely enough for them to push their levels to the peak of Rank 5.

After all, if that weren’t the case, the young man in front of him wouldn’t act that carefree and relaxed around the matter.

However, even though his other self had indirectly told him all he needed to know for the meantime, the young man still went ahead and asked the system to show him the amount of XP they currently had.

’As far as I remember, the last time both of us checked the amount of unused XP we had, we had close to 27 billion points,’ thought Valyr to himself. ’Most of that was thanks to the grinding session Meyers did before we met with the two Administrators.’

’Considering that the time he spent grinding this time around is almost twice as long as that session, did he gain around twice as much XP out of the entire thing?’

Ding!

Hearing the system’s usual chime go off in his mind, the young man went ahead and focused his attention on the screen that appeared in front of him, letting his curiosity get the better of him.

Though, once he glanced at the number that came after the few words that appeared on the screen, he could not help but stare at it with his mouth slightly agape

Unused XP (Shared): 107,369,553,182

“One…”

“Over one hundred… billion…?”

Staring at the 12-digit number that graced his vision for a bit longer, Valyr eventually shifted his attention towards Ataraxia, his expression undoubtedly that of surprise.

“How…” he uttered, trying his best to ask his other self how the latter was able to amass such a massive amount of XP in just a week.

After all, even if he factored the XP both of them got from the things they did on the side, that amount would ideally boost the amount of unused XP they had to around 29 billion at best.

Yet, Ataraxia was able to amass almost three times that total in what was a pretty short span of time, especially considering how much time they’ve already spent towards their preparations thus far.

Sadly, no matter how much he tried to voice out the question he had in mind, the young man could not find the strength to do so whatsoever.

Thankfully, his other self already knew what he wanted to know.

“The answer’s much simpler than you’d think,” said Ataraxia, letting out a slight chuckle.

“The Realm of New Horizons.”

“The Realm… of New Horizons…” Muttering out the same words that left the former’s mouth, the gears within Valyr’s mind began to turn, gradually speeding up as he spent a bit more time on the thought.

“I see.” By the time a couple of minutes had passed, the latter looked at Ataraxia with understanding, giving him a faint nod as the answer to his question was compressed even further down to a single word.

Strength.

“Surely this is more than enough XP to push us to the peak of Rank 5, no?”

Though the fact that they had over a hundred billion XP just waiting to be used made him quite confident of his guess, Ataraxia still held a bit of doubt that the amount they had wouldn’t be enough.

“Who knows?” Valyr replied, slightly shrugging his shoulders. “The only way we’ll find out if it’s enough is if we ascend.”

“However, if this amount ends up not being enough to push us to the peak of Rank 5, it’d be in our best interest to postpone upgrading our levels after the ascension,” he continued, his expression becoming slightly solemn.

“In any case, we’ve dragged this ascension for long enough.”

“System, we would like to ascend.”

Ding!

Hearing chimes go off in their minds the moment Valyr uttered those words, the two focused their attention on the screens that appeared before them as they briefly glanced at the notifications they received.

[1,692,318,400 XP has been allocated.]

[You are now Level 76.]

[As you have ascended to a higher class, your VIT to HP coefficient has changed from 1:32 to 1:40.]

[As you have ascended to a higher class, your INT to MP coefficient has changed from 1:32 to 1:40.]

“Damn,” said Valyr, letting out a whistle as he took a look at the XP the system consumed to push them to the next rank. “That’s almost half the amount it took me to push myself to the peak of Rank 4.”

“Seeing that just makes me more doubtful of us being able to reach the peak of Rank 5 the moment the ascension’s done,” said Ataraxia after that, slightly shuddering at the number.

“Anyways… it looks like the debuffs to XP cost stacked multiplicatively?”

“Looks like it.” Valyr faintly nodded as he did a few calculations in his mind. “[Two as One, One as Two] increases XP cost by a factor of 5, while our identities as True Defiers of Fate increases XP cost by a factor of 10.”

“A 50 times increase in XP cost, huh…” muttered Ataraxia in response, only to let out a faint sigh soon after.

Staring at the cost to ascend to Rank 5 for a bit longer, the two eventually shifted their attention towards their respective screens, taking a look at the choices they had for their species and class at Rank 5.

Though, with how both of them had already made headway into their Growth class, as well as the fact that they had access to something like the Records, the two didn’t really spend that much time going over their choices.

Instead, they directly went for the slightly upgraded versions of their species, pushing themselves further on the path of Unsealing.

On the other hand, they kept their classes as is, understanding that the system would transform its abilities to be compatible with their next class rank.

And thus, with their choices made, the two soon felt a massive surge of energy course through their bodies, making them feel as if they’ve completely transcended all realms of strength.

However, just as the two were about to indulge in this euphoric feeling, both Valyr and Ataraxia soon felt their bodies and minds become overwhelmed with various sensations, causing them to fall unconscious not long after.
