Chapter 868: Cassius’s Demise

Chapter 868: Cassius’s Demise

After staring at the single drop of black liquid on Emma’s fingertip, realization slammed into Nyx like a tsunami, her eyes widening in disbelief.

’I-Is that what I think it is?’ Nyx thought, her mind racing as clarity settled over her about the mysterious drop.

’Unbelievable… this is a poison even I’m not immune to. It could kill me in an instant!’ she realized inwardly, terror rising at the thought of what Emma might unleash on Cassius.

A strange pity flickered through her then — Cassius was about to die in a manner far worse than a clean death, a suitably cruel end for a fool who had provoked them.

Cassius and his men stared at the black drop with puzzled faces, and very quickly they began to sense its power simply by being near it.

A burning ache spread through their lungs as they inhaled the vapour rising from the liquid. It smelled oddly sweet, like perfume… only deadlier.

The moment the scent reached them, strength ebbed from their bodies. One by one they felt weak, as if drained by some invisible hand merely from proximity.

A single horrifying thought raced through their minds — what if that black liquid entered their bodies? Would they suffer a gruesome death? Pain worse than death itself?

The mere possibility sent chills down their spines; their bodies trembled in mounting dread.

They wanted to flee, but the invisible pressure pinned them in place; not a single muscle could move beneath it.

’This is very bad. At this rate, we’re all going to die!’ Cassius screamed inwardly, panic thrumming through his veins.

He clenched his teeth and pushed his Mana outward, trying to amplify his strength to shatter the hold.

It was useless. No matter how fiercely he fought, his limbs felt frozen as if encased in stone.

“Hmph. It’s useless no matter how hard you struggle… Your fate was sealed the moment you came here and provoked my mother,” Emma said coldly, disdain lacing every syllable.

“P-Please… spare me…” Cassius stammered, summoning everything he had to beg for mercy.

“It’s too late now… you’ll die for your arrogance,” Emma replied calmly, then let the black drop fall onto his skin.

The moment the liquid touched him, it seeped in instantly, sinking deep as if the poison had a will of its own.

“Aaaaaaa!!” Cassius screamed as the poison surged through his bloodstream, racing to every corner of his body.

A searing pain stabbed at his chest; his skin went first pale, then darkened into a sickly black, an impossible sight that froze everyone in horror.

“W-What the hell is happening to our lord?!”

“Why is he turning black all of a sudden?!”

Cassius’s men trembled as terrified murmurs spread, faces contorted with disbelief. For a moment they had been cowed by Emma — now their leader’s life mattered most.

“You bitch! What did you do to our lord?!” one of the Red Dragon members shouted, finding his voice despite shaking knees.

Emma ignored him. She raised her hand slowly; another droplet of black liquid gathered on her fingertip and then shot toward the man’s forehead.

“Aaaaaa!!!” he screamed as the drop struck. Flesh at the impact point began to blister and break down into a dark, reeking mass.

Panic erupted among the Red Dragon members. They fought the invisible pressure with everything they had, but it held them fast; escape was impossible.

Cassius writhed in an agony worse than death. His voice shredded into a muffled rasp; blood darkened and stained his lips. He cursed his obsession for bringing him here to face this fate.

He could do nothing—Mana failed him, organs began shutting down, and the poison crept through his body like fire.

His skin sloughed away as the toxin ate inward; he was dying slowly, every second a fresh torment. Never had he imagined a demise like this—so sudden, so humiliating.

When Cassius finally died, Emma released the pressure. In an instant the remaining syndicate members collapsed, crushed by her force and killed before they could plead.

Witnesses watched in stunned silence, a mixture of terror and disbelief paralyzing them.

Emma then used her poison to dissolve the corpses into a pool of black ichor; it hissed against the stone for a moment, then vanished as if the poison had never been.

It turned into smoke, completely disappearing from the ground, leaving no trace behind.

This scene shocked Nyx. She had always believed that her poison was the strongest in this entire world. However, after witnessing her daughter’s poison, she realized she couldn’t even compare hers to Emma’s anymore.

It was now clear as day that Emma’s poison was far more superior and overwhelmingly powerful—so much that even she, Nyx, felt genuine fear from it.

’How did Emma’s poison become so terrifying? Is it because of her strange practices? Or is it because of Yuan?’ She wondered deeply in her mind, troubled by this sudden revelation.

Several questions appeared in her thoughts after seeing just how destructive Emma’s poison had become compared to her own. Yet, she could not find any satisfying answer.

The members of the Green Viper Organization were equally stunned as they watched with wide eyes and gaping mouths, completely frozen in disbelief.

“Is that really the Princess? She’s unbelievably powerful!”

“T-This is hard to believe… Whatever she did sent chills down my spine!”

“I can’t help but feel terrified of our Princess… She is even scarier than our leader!”

The members of the Green Viper Organization whispered nervously before slowly dispersing from the scene.

Since the threat had been completely eliminated, they returned to their duties—guarding the mansion and monitoring the surrounding area.

As soon as Emma entered the mansion, a pair of warm hands suddenly grabbed her and pulled her into a gentle embrace, making a genuine smile bloom on her previously cold face.

“You were incredible out there… You didn’t even give that bastard a chance to speak before ending his life for good!” Yuan said proudly as he pulled Emma onto his lap, wearing a huge smile of admiration.

Emma smiled brightly and wrapped her arms around his neck before softly pressing her lips against his. The affectionate scene made Nyx twitch her eye slightly, feeling a bit uncomfortable witnessing such intimacy.

Once the kiss ended, Emma looked at Yuan with a small, satisfied smile and asked, “What do you think about my poison? It has improved a lot, right? I can now produce poison far more powerful than before.”

“I have seen it, and truly, it’s remarkable how powerful your poison has become in such a short amount of time.” Yuan nodded his head, clearly recognizing the tremendous improvement in her strength and cultivation.

’The time she spent with her mother hasn’t gone to waste at all. Instead, she has greatly improved her strength and cultivation.’ Yuan thought with a small smile forming on his lips.

After a moment, Nyx looked at Yuan, a serious look appearing on her face before she began to speak.

“Yuan, since Cassius and his men have died on my territory, this situation will drastically draw the attention of the remaining two organizations toward us. You must have realized this already, didn’t you?” She asked with a curious gaze.

“Absolutely, I have already foreseen this situation. However, I don’t think they will dare to cause a scene or pressure you anytime soon.” Yuan responded with complete calmness, as if he already understood how the future would unfold.

“That’s indeed a valid observation, dear son-in-law.” Nyx chuckled softly as she sat on the comfy sofa. “However, this doesn’t mean they won’t show their claws. In fact, soon they will come here demanding an explanation.”

“Hmm…” Yuan pondered for a brief moment after hearing this. Then he looked at her with a confident smirk and said, “Do you want me to get rid of them for you? I can do it for free.”

As soon as Yuan said this, Nyx’s eyes widened in disbelief. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing right now. Eliminating the two most powerful criminal organizations?

’What kind of mindset does this kid have?! Eliminating the two most powerful organizations… does he think this is as simple as breathing?!’ She practically cried inwardly, utterly shaken in disbelief.

Yuan and his wives looked at Nyx’s silence with knowing smiles on their faces, and even Emma was grinning, enjoying the shocked expression on her mother’s face.

“Mom, just say the word. If you want, we can eliminate them in no time. It’s actually quite easy for us.” Emma said with a calm yet confident smile, making her mother look at her with wide-open eyes full of shock.

Nyx took a long deep breath to calm herself down. She was immensely shocked by today’s events and needed time to digest everything properly. Her mind was on the verge of chaos, and she felt awkward—as if she had just endured a mental trauma.

She slowly exhaled before saying, “No need to do something so outrageous. Since I’ll be going with you, I don’t need to eliminate them.”

This time, it was Yuan and his wives who were stunned. They looked at Nyx with wide-open eyes, unable to fully grasp what she just said.

Seeing their shocked expressions, Nyx then spent the next few moments explaining her reasoning to them—why she was willing to leave everything behind to stay with her daughter, even abandoning her own organization.

Meanwhile, the news about Cassius’s demise had already spread to every corner of the Lawless City. Everyone in the city was left shaken by the sudden yet strangely expected news.

Everyone knew how obsessed Cassius was with Nyx. Many had predicted that one day his infatuation would lead him to disaster.

And now, hearing that he truly died because of that exact obsession sent waves of shock throughout the city. Like wildfire, the news spread from street to street—everyone and their mother talking nonstop about it.
