Eventually I found myself dancing with Lady Lorelei of all people, the older Vampire deciding she wanted to have a little chat with all of her daughter’s lovers now that she had received such wonderful news.

And honestly, despite the rather odd atmosphere that surrounded us right now I desperately needed something to focus on because otherwise I was going to be thinking about what Mother had just told me… which was definitely not something I wanted to do right this moment.

To say it scared me would be an understatement, because not only was pregnancy something I ’knew’ nothing about but it was also something that I always just believed to be a single baby, maybe two at most…

Three?

Upwards of eight?

Yeah, that was something that only happened in books or movies to showcase some sort of insane piece of plot, not reality… though I suppose I was in something that I would have once considered a book, so…

Still, just thinking about it made me shiver, and Lady Lorelei was insanely perceptive and also quite knowledgeable since she gave me a small smile and asked “I assume you were just talking to your Mother about the… uniqueness of your current situation?”, sending another shiver up my spine.

“Yes, she did, and currently… Ahem, anyways, I wanted to ask if it might be possible for you to share a recipe or two with Leone in regards to her and Anput’s baby? I remember that my Mother had some… severe symptoms when she was pregnant with Mother Ria and Mom’s babies.”

“Ah, that… Yes, well, that is a unique case, but I shall provide Leone a few recipes that are beneficial anyways. You both are going to require some muscle relaxers, vitamin enhancers, sleep tonics… she should know most, but there are variations that might be best suited for Caninekin somewhere in my notebooks.

Anyways, circling back… The reason your Mother had such drastic symptoms – I heard a little bit about what happened when your family was temporarily residing within the Palace – was entirely due to her having twins.

Yes most races have stronger, more painful symptoms when they get pregnant with a Demon child, but those symptoms are only amplified by her having twins. What each race requires during pregnancy varies by a small yet noticeable amount, so when you have a single race inhabiting your womb your body is able to tolerate those changes.

So long as the three of you continue to be ’lucky’ enough to carry only the child of one partner at a time you won’t experience such pain. Though if it ever happens we have a large quantity of Alchemists ready to ensure everything does go swimmingly.”

It was a bit reassuring to hear that from her since she had the resources and knowhow available to make that a reality, and again she gave me that small smile before patting my arm as she added “I know it isn’t that reassuring to hear from me, but Caninekin have been giving birth like this for millennia, and amongst all of the highly populated races they tend to have a lower mortality rate during birth.”

I gave her a small smile in reply since she was right, it wasn’t really too reassuring when compared to the prior reassurance that she gave, so we continued dancing for a few moments before she asked “I always found it interesting that Leone was so smitten with some servant girl, but I suppose I can see why.”

That made me raise a brow as I looked at her, and to my surprise I saw her smiling rather mischievously as she flicked her eyes down towards my chest, the Vampire showing off a personality that seemed quite at odds with what I was accustomed to.

Her lips curled more as she leaned closer to whisper “Dear, I’ve been alive for a long time. If I was some dreary old Vampire, do you think I would have married the Empress? Obviously I am… aware of some things, hm?”

That caused me to look down at her own abundant chest, which she puffed out a little as she said “This was one of the things I came to understand rather well. Futanari seem to be quite drawn to these, and when I saw your Mother back then I had a feeling… and pairing beauty with brains tends to be a winning recipe.”

“So does that mean you were always… accepting of this, or..?”

“Of my daughter marrying into another family because she would be able to get two for the price of one? A talented prodigy that was heir to a rather storied House is already something that – politically – made it easy to accept this, but now that she was going to also have that servant girl she was pining after?

It was honestly a bit of a relief to see that she had a similar level of greed comparable to her Mom. The marriage arrangement was something she had input on, but she didn’t even consider any of the others, just made it clear she wanted to marry the Demoness and maybe nab the Dogkin girl too. When you were all a little older it made a lot more sense…”

We shared a smile and continued to dance as we chatted about this and that, moving from the more ’sensitive’ topic of what was inside of me and instead chatting about the interesting things that involved young Leone, who apparently was a bit more ’forwards’ than we had once believed.

Learning that she had actually had quite the input in what happened back then and that she had worked so hard to ensure that her parents saw Jahi as the best and only option available was definitely amusing, even more so when we passed her as she danced with the very Demoness that was the center of all of this.

Seeing her ears twitch and her neck redden as she caught a bit of what we were saying had us both laughing, and even when the younger Vampire swiftly released Jahi’s hands to come snatch me away it was a bit too ’late’ for her, causing her to don that adorable pout that just made me want to tease her even more.
