Chapter 1437 - 1438: The gates are now open
Liam stepped out into the morning mist, his figure wrapped in silence as the sect buzzed with anticipation.
Today, the gates to the treasure lands would open. He wasn’t the only one who had spent the last few days in seclusion; across the mountain range, countless alchemists had been preparing, refining pills, sharpening weapons, and doing painstaking hard work.
The air near the sect’s central plaza was filled with tension. Sect elders, alchemists who stood at the peak, who had already reached Dao lord rank, stood watch in silence. Their expressions were unreadable, though most wouldn’t step through the gates themselves. This was a trial for the younger generation.
Liam’s arrival did not go unnoticed. Whispers rippled through the crowd like wind through dry leaves. Some gazes held awe, others jealousy, a few even fear. Many had seen the dao pillar during the lecture.
Others had heard how it lasted longer than any other in recent sect history. A few had even claimed that some sort of ancient beast roared from within his dao pillar. The rumors had become extremely exaggerated.
Ignoring it all, Liam calmly moved to his assigned position, atop a platform. Multiple floating platforms could be found in the plaza, each one housing a top-tier alchemist of the Green Mountain sect.
Soon, it was time, and one of the sect elders stepped forward. He took out a strange token from his spatial ring and activated it. The next second, a purple color portal materialized into existence.
All conversation ceased. Even the wind seemed to pause. The moment had arrived.
The elder holding the token spoke a few brief words. “The gates to the Treasure Lands are now open. Your fate is your own.”
As if answering his words, the portal flared. From its swirling depths came a pressure that suppressed everyone in the area.. Some disciples flinched. Others stared, entranced. Liam narrowed his eyes. There were several powerful auras within the portal.
“Only step inside if you are sure of it. You have 1 minute to decide.”
Immediately, one by one, many platforms shot toward the portal. The top alchemists, each brimming with ambition and years of training, stood tall and silent as they passed through the veil. Despite the danger, no one wanted to miss this opportunity.
Liam willed his platform to enter the portal, and the next second, he shot forward towards the portal as well. He stepped through without hesitation, letting the vortex swallow him whole. But the next moment, he froze as a familiar feeling gripped him.
“A soul frayed by the weight of unseen sins… Temper it in silence, and it may yet be unbound. Righteousness is not a sanctuary, it is a crucible. Only the tempered endure.”
“The next heir of the league of soul weavers… the grand throne awaits you…”
Liam’s entire being trembled from the inside out. His very core shook as the familiar words reached his ears. Some of it he had heard before, and some of it he had not. As he crashed into the world, he finally understood why the cauldron senior had nudged him in this direction.
Another part of his soulmancer’s legacy was here!
It had been so close to him, and he was this close to losing it permanently!
Liam clenched his fists. It did not matter. Now that he was here, this piece of the legacy was also fated to be his and his alone.
Inside the purple portal, a vibrant green world extended before him in all directions. It was clearly the best environment for nourishing all sorts of herbs and plants. Liam hovered in place for a brief moment, eyes wide, chest rising slowly as he took it all in.
He then shot forward in a particular direction. He felt an unmistakable pull in that direction, and he was pretty sure the next part of the legacy rested there. However, just as he charged forward, a powerful aura appeared in his path, and before he could realize he was facing something huge and monstrous.
A tail came whipping down at Liam, and he immediately used his domains to block the attack. Only that it was no use. The power of that monstrous beast was so strong that he was simply flung aside.
Liam was about to immediately teleport and disappear when a familiar voice sounded in his ears. “Why are you always so reckless?” A woman appeared between the tail and him, and a massive cauldron descended from the sky, directly crushing the monstrous beast under its weight.
One shot kill!
Nyx elegantly floated in front of Liam, her face cold and aloof. “When you enter a foreign and dangerous territory, you need to proceed cautiously, not run around like a madman.” Came her words of wisdom.
Liam’s face twitched. The one person he did not want to meet inside this place had somehow found him moments after he stepped inside. What the hell was happening right now? He did not bother to stop and talk to her and instead continued trying to teleport the hell out of there.
Nyx snorted. “You cannot teleport within these treasure lands. Don’t you know anything about this place?”
Liam bitterly smiled as the next moment he switched with his clone and disappeared from there anyway.
Nyx’s face turned unsightly. She had just helped this bastard, and yet all the gratitude she got was this. “Bastard.” She muttered under her breath, clenching her fists.
She was only used to people revering her and respecting her whenever they saw them. This was the first time someone had run away like he had seen the plague the moment he had laid eyes on her, despite her saving him.
“Why is he behaving like this? Did he think that I was going to come after some paltry herbs he had managed to acquire here? Hmph. What an ignorant idiot.” She continued cursing Liam for a few seconds before leaving the place as well.
Meanwhile, Liam reappeared in another place and wiped a drop of sweat from his forehead. That was close. He could still clearly feel the pull towards the direction he needed to go, but getting there was not going to be an easy task.
