Chapter 837: A sliver
Chapter 837: A sliver
Now that he got close enough to see her past the whizzing tornado, he frowned. It seemed his worries were right.
Standing in the middle of this whirlwind, she became subject to her own chaos. Stones pelted her from all sides, leaving her with cuts and bruises everywhere.
Not only that, but her green scales were starting to turn brown, almost blackish, as if her skin was getting burned from the inside out. But even she didn’t seem to notice the pain as her unfocused eyes continued to look up at the skies.
Her body can’t take this much power…
Stopping the storm was as easy as flipping a switch. Literally. That would certainly save her, but he hesitated. He still had to wait until her Diva completely hatched.
Cracks had already permeated around the egg’s surface, with a few patches already falling off, revealing the green glow underneath the shell. He had a feeling that stopping it now would have an even more adverse effect than if he had just left it alone.
Besides, it looked like it just needed a few more seconds before the dragon broke out of its shell.
But then, the rumbling in the egg ceased, halting its hatching process.
Why did it stop?
[Wake her up. She needs to actively accept her chaos. That’s the only way it’s going to hatch.]
Michael didn’t question Harbinger’s advice and quickly summoned up all the air in his lungs and shouted.
“UMISU!”
Finally, the green-scaled Dragonborn twitched her head, clarity returning to her eyes.
She looked at Michael, seeing the disaster that she had unleashed upon the world behind him.
But before a sense of guilt and shame crossed her mind, Michael took her attention.
He nodded and gave her a smile of reassurance. Everything was going to be alright.
Seeing this, a resolute expression dawned on her face.
The egg above her finally shed off its shell, revealing a blinding green light that permeated everything. The whirlwind of storms wrecking havoc around her started to wane, a subtle calming green hue slowly being infused amongst the chaos.
She thrust her spear into the skies, creating a visible cone of vapor at the tip as it surpassed the speed of sound.
A thin pillar pierced through the air, reaching high up in the skies and destroyed the stormy clouds obscuring the moon.
Finally, the storm ceased, dissipating into a gentle wind.
Everywhere around New Sparta, figures looked up at the commotion.
A certain blind woman stared in the direction of the Werewolves’ quadrant, eyebrows raising in amusement. “Spearmaster,” she muttered. “There’s another talent with the Brownbloods? I should tell Freya to come here.”
…
…
…
Michael caught Umisu just before her legs gave out, holding her shoulders in place.
“Sir…Michael? What—what happened?” she asked him.
“You don’t remember anything?”
She shook her head. Then, her gaze scanned the surroundings and saw the aftermath of her chaotic outburst. It looked like a bomb had exploded right from where she stood, with signs of an outward blast streaking across the ground.
“Did… I do this?” she asked, her hands trembling.
“Yeah. You did. We’re gonna have to pay a ton of money for a cleaning service. You can use a broom right, cause our money’s a little tight right now.”
Umisu let out a chuckle.
“Don’t worry,” he assured her. “No one’s hurt.”
A relieved smile flashed across her face.
“How do you feel? Stronger, right?”
Umisu looked down and clutched her chest, eyes widening. “It’s! It’s!”
The chaotic spool of power that gathered at her chest was now gone, replaced by a much more tame ball of carefully condensed pellet. Somehow, her own GodForge pieces had formed around this chaotic power and restrained it.
She could no longer feel the pull of anger. For the first time in her life, she was feeling in control of herself, no longer being led by those unseemly emotions that gripped her all the time. It was as if she could finally breathe fresh air!
“It looks like you have conquered your own demons,” Michael said. “Instead of being enslaved by it, you’ve tamed it instead.”
The chaotic power was still inside Umisu, but now, its destructive tendencies had been thoroughly moderated by a much stronger power.
It was kept locked tight, but not completely destroyed. This meant that there was a possibility that Umisu could tap into that power if she so desired.
Michael had never seen something like this before. Her own power—her own talent—was destructive and chaotic enough to rival even that of Aubility Power. To be exact, it was a magnifier. It somehow empowered Umisu’s Aubilities beyond what was considered normal even for Maugnetic standards!
After all, she was able to manifest a 4th stage power even after her initial awakening!
“Do you want to try and tap into that power?”
Umisu hesitated for a second. She didn’t want to cause further destruction.
But there was something in her gut that was telling her that it was okay, that she didn’t have to worry.
’Was that you?’
She looked up just as swirling golden lights started to form the visage of her Diva.
It was a green dragon in its infancy, bountiful grass growing on her skin where the scales should be. There were flowers, vines, and all kinds of greenery sprouting from the dragon’s grassfields, as if it was a miniature garden.
Michael noticed that the blades of grass in the dragon’s skin looked similar to a Werewolf’s fur. It was spiky, almost matted, and looked tough enough to endure even the sharpest swords.
“I trust you,” Umisu said as she closed her eyes and focused on the power in her heart.
As the chaos in her body started to unlock, a sense of warmth spread around her body. It wasn’t harsh like the first time she unleashed the chaos. It was cozy, like the embrace of a familiar friend, or the heat of a campfire on a cold winter’s night.
The GodForge pieces in her heart unspooled its thread, and simultaneously revealed a tiny sliver of the chaotic power underneath it.
The green Dragon above her silently roared, unfurling its vine-netted wings. A slight red hue emanated from the grass blades on its skin, getting more intense as the chaos unravelled.
Michael watched as the invisible pressure emanating from Umisu’s body started to rise, going from the base of the 1st stage, to the peak, and all the way to the 2nd stage!
It looked like the power would continue to rise even further, but Umisu’s face started to strain, her eyes starting to be invaded by a grey haze.
She quickly stopped before it permeated deeper into her subconscious.
Then, she took a deep breath.
Her physical power remained at the 2nd stage of Body Formation, steady and calm.
“I… I can only control it up to this point,” Umisu said, disappointment in her eyes.
“That’s amazing!” Michael praised. The fact that she could tap into the chaos meant that there was a possibility in the future where she could fully harness its power.
Right now, she was still at the infancy of her control. But once she mastered it, she could easily surpass two, maybe three stages above her own! That was a cheat!
“Hehehe,” Umisu blushed. “It’s thanks to you, sir Michael.”
“You don’t have to thank me. You did it all on your own. And now, you have to learn how to control it.”
Thankfully, they just made new friends who were adept at this sort of thing.
