Chapter 1030 - 1030: ‘Valkalonex’
“Arthur. Leave this guy to me.”
Evan cracked his knuckles, grinning under his mask, while Arthur casually pulled a chair from his subspace and sat down to spectate.
The sight only seemed to enrage Kalon, but the boys couldn’t care less.
As Evan stepped forward, he slipped into role-playing mode and called out to Kalon, who glared at them from the cockpit of the mech.
“You really think that thing’s enough to stop us?”
The mech’s eyes locked onto Evan, and Kalon’s voice crackled through the speakers in response.
[I don’t just think it. I know it.]
With that, the mech took its first step, the ground shaking under its immense weight.
The mech Kalon had constructed using his Machine god skill stood at 10 meters tall, and even an untrained eye could tell it was a technological marvel far beyond the capabilities of current Aramis technology.
‘Which isn’t strange when you think about the fact that this bastard isn’t Aramisian!’
That thought crossed Evan’s mind as he activated three skills simultaneously.
‘Tempest Avatar + Stout Guardian + Harbinger of Ice: Frostborne Colossus.’
All three combined to form his ‘Frost Thunder Guardian’.
Artemisia’s ‘Tempest Avatar’ conjured a full-body humanoid construct which he scaled up to the mech’s size. Then, using Leviah’s ‘Stout Guardian’, he formed a suit of armour around it, and with Silverwing’s ‘Harbinger of Ice’, he created a crimson-gold frost sword.
The result was a giant knight-like avatar, clad in heavy armour, wielding a broad shield and a frost-etched blade, its aura radiating the same crimson gold as Evan’s Blessing of Destruction.
Floating up into its chest, Evan made the construct opaque, concealing himself entirely.
At the sight, Arthur burst out laughing.
‘He just mimicked the mech!’
He’d thought that Evan had some special counter to Kalon’s mech, but that wasn’t the case. Evan just wanted to fight one!
It’s worth noting that Evan’s construct took only a few seconds to form, and by the time he finished, Kalon had already sent his mech charging forward with a burst of energy.
‘I’ll end this quickly.’
Evan thought this as he infused more destruction law energy into his ice sword and swung it to meet the supersonic divinity blade from Kalon’s mech’s right hand.
Its left hand transformed into a shotgun, firing concentrated law energy blasts with the power of a small nuke behind them, and in response, Evan activated ‘Burst Cannon,’ firing destructive flames to mirror the mech’s rapid-fire capability.
Realising the power of Evan’s attack was no joke, Kalon manoeuvred the mech deftly, using its jet boosters to dodge to the side, the flame blasts whizzing past, barely missing.
He flicked his controls and compartments on the mech’s shoulders opened, launching a storm of heat-seeking missiles tipped with explosive divinity into the sky.
The missiles arced around, honing in on Evan from all directions.
Responding in kind, Evan activated Elemental Weapon Projection to conjure fire, ice and lightning missiles to counter. For ‘variety’ sake, he swung his sword and used Blade Cannon to release slashes accompanied by pressurized energy bullets that detonated on impact, tearing through the mech’s shields.
‘Shit!’
Kalon cursed, quickly swerving to the side and regenerating his shields. He activated the railgun mounted on his mech’s shoulder, firing high-velocity, magic-infused projectiles at Evan.
Evan tried to block with the Stout Guardian’s shield, but the projectiles tore through it effortlessly.
Switching tactics, he teleported away to avoid them and responded with Vindiction’s Strike, unleashing a high-speed, piercing beam of fiery energy.
At this point, Kalon would be dumb to not realise what Evan was doing.
‘He’s mimicking everything I do—!!’
The realisation brought home the reality that Evan was toying with him. Angered by this, he morphed his mech’s forearms into gravity disruptor cannons, creating a gravity well to figuratively drag Evan off his high horse, and literally drag him to the ground.
Too bad for him, however, as Evan had Crarox’s ‘Gravitational Maelstrom’. He used it to pull in nearby buildings and Aramisian soldiers, crushing them into one ball of flesh and stone which he hurled at Kalon’s gravity well.
[I’ll burn you to ash!!!]
Kalon roared, his fury boiling over, and unleashed rapid bursts of molten energy from the plasma cannons mounted on either side of the mech’s waist—blasts so hot they could make lava feel lukewarm.
In response, Evan activated his Energy Blast skill, releasing bolts of equally scorching flames to counter the plasma fire.
The colour of Evan’s flames had Kalon’s instincts screaming at him, so he quickly activated a specialized Aether energy shield to block them.
Evan’s eyes narrowed as he focused on the shield, using Time Difference to accelerate his thoughts as he analysed its lattice structure and composition.
‘That guy’s Aether shields were always weakest at the junctions between the layers,’ he thought, his mind already calculating the best approach.
‘Pierce Guard.’
Activating that skill, Evan closed the distance, the frost-thunder sword in his construct’s hand crackling with destructive energy as he slashed at the shield, the blade biting through the air and sending arcs of energy swirling around him.
Each strike hit with pinpoint accuracy, targeting the weak points of the lattice structure. Though the shield held firm against his attacks, Evan didn’t care and continued hitting those spots.
Kalon’s mech retaliated with a powerful slash from its humming, supersonic divinity blade, aiming to tear through Evan’s defences. But Evan’s construct simply raised the Stout Guardian’s shield in its left hand to block the incoming slash, its defence holding strong as the divinity blade struck with violent force, but failed to break through.
At the same time, Kalon launched a barrage of missiles and energy blasts from his mech’s weapon systems. He tried to gain distance to charge up a powerful attack, but Evan stuck close to him, keeping the mech in close quarters as his blade continued hitting the shield.
To deal with the missiles and energy blasts, he used Elemental Shield to summon a barrier of fire and ice around his construct. The fiery plasma blasts collided with the ice barrier, instantly cooling and neutralizing the heat, while the remaining force was absorbed by the fire layer, leaving Evan untouched.
Just as Kalon was about to launch another attack, a notification flashed in his cockpit.
[Shield Integrity Low.]
“What?!
He glanced at the readout in disbelief as he realized Evan was systematically targeting the weak points of his shield.
‘How did he find out so quickly?!’
Kalon didn’t even have time to be shocked as Evan’s sword struck once more, slicing through the last of the shield’s defences. The Aether shield shattered with a violent burst of energy, and the mech’s protection crumbled away, leaving it vulnerable to Evan’s sword.
‘Pierce Guard + Adamantine Might + Shockwave.’
**BOOM!!
An explosion erupted as Evan’s sword tore through the mech’s body, forcing Kalon to engage the high-output jet boosters and fly into the sky to avoid further damage.
But Evan only laughed, unfurling his wings and closing the distance once again. Due to the mass difference between his construct and Kalon’s mech, Evan was far more agile.
Kalon, noticing this, attempted to disrupt Evan’s magic flow with electromagnetic pulses. But Evan maintained his magic flow with pure manipulation skill, shrugging off the EMP effects.
Enraged, Kalon transformed the mech’s chest into a flamethrower cannon, unleashing a beam of esoteric flames imbued with divinity and law energy, capable of burning through magical barriers and even other flames.
Unfortunately, of all the mistakes Kalon had ever made in his life, using flames against Evan, was undoubtedly the biggest.
It barely took a second for Evan to show Kalon who was boss when it came to flames as the swirling beam of multicoloured fire he unleashed from his construct’s chest in response, easily dwarfed the mech’s flames in both power and intensity.
Mesarthim’s flames, burning with all the colours of the light spectrum, overwhelmed the mech’s beam in an instant. The fiery torrent slammed into the mech’s chest, blasting apart the flamethrower cannon and cracking the divinity crystal at its core.
Realizing the danger to his mech’s energy core, Kalon attempted to escape, once again firing up the mech’s high-output jet boosters to retreat higher into the sky.
But before he could even do that, Evan activated Eliza’s Gravilife Convergence, summoning a massive arm construct of rocks from the ground. Its gravitational force dragged the mech’s leg downward, just enough for the construct’s fist to clamp down on it.
The mech struggled to fly up, its systems screaming in protest as the grip of the arm held it down. Kalon tried to use an energy blast to destroy it, but Evan’s construct closed the distance in that instant.
Without hesitation, Evan plunged his frost-thunder sword deep into the mech’s chest. The fractured divinity crystal finally shattered under the blade’s force, sending energy discharges rippling throughout the mech’s frame.
Sparks and flames burst from the failing core as the mech’s systems shut down one by one.
The gravitational disruptor flickered and died, and the divine energy blade crumbled into fragments of light.
Kalon could do nothing but watch as the mech collapsed around him.
Then, Evan reached into the cockpit and ripped Kalon out, holding him close as he activated Time Difference.
‘The Mystic Eyes of Mimicry use the Eyes as the Window to the Soul, copying skill runes directly from it.
If that’s the case, then…’
The symbol of Evan’s Mystic Eyes suddenly glitched, and his grey irises shifted into a swirling blaze of iridescent fire.
Through the pathway the Mystic Eyes had created, Evan infused his magic power and transmitted the ‘will’ of his soul.
The energy layers surrounding his Deity Soul glowed with bright prismatic light as he peered into Kalon’s soul, following the link that tethered it to a distant, much LARGER Deity soul.
Instantly, Evan’s surroundings transformed into a vast, dark void. Machine parts began materializing all around him—monolithic gears descending from the sky, enormous pistons pumping in the distance, and thick streams of dark oil dripping from the network of overhead valves that stretched across the darkness.
Chuckling at the sight, Evan spoke.
“As I thought, it was you… Valkalonex.”
He muttered the name of one of the universe’s most powerful gods—the Machine god King. And in response, a deep, rumbling voice echoed.
|WHO DARES?!|
Snorting, Evan responded.
“Tone down the theatrics, idiot.”
His gaze swept across the mechanical domain, his expression unimpressed as he clicked his tongue.
“This place is as obnoxious as ever.”
As he spoke, divinity began to coalesce before him, taking the shape of a humanoid figure. But Evan didn’t wait for it to fully form.
“I didn’t come here to talk—just to mess with you.”
With those words, Evan’s ‘will’ erupted into a pillar of crimson destructive flames, searing through the mindscape.
The flames consumed the link between ‘Kalon’ and ‘Valkalonex’, burning it out completely—severing their connection and preventing ‘Kalon’ from transferring his memories, or ‘Valkalonex’ from retrieving his soul fragment.
Evan’s consciousness snapped back to reality, just as three expected words appeared before him.
|Machine god Acquired|
Satisfied, Evan tossed Kalon to the ground like a discarded rag, and then checked his remaining skill slots.
’12, huh? That’s good.’
Evan deactivated his skills and the construct he was in silently dissolved into magic power. Amidst that, a round of applause reached his ears and Evan turned his gaze to see the clapping Arthur.
He landed on the ground soundlessly and turned his gaze towards Kalon, who was crawling toward the wreckage of his shattered mech, his breath ragged and eyes filled with desperation.
“No… I am a genius! Aramis cannot lose this war—they cannot lose me! Without my brilliance, without my machines, my Artificial Divines, they’d be helpless!! If I die… this whole plan dies with me!”
His voice grew more frantic as he activated the communication device in his ear, calling out in desperation.
“Ademahat! Amhins! Emon! Transcendents! Save me! Do you hear me?!”
But there was no response as the Transcendents were far too occupied battling the High-Rank demons to even acknowledge his plea.
Kalon’s expression twisted, his rage and fear intertwining as the realisation that no one was coming dawned on him.
“Even if… even if I die here…”
A flicker of madness flashed in his eyes, but even through his growing hysteria, he was smart enough to keep the rest of his thoughts to himself.
‘My clone… My clone must survive! It is me! I will buy time… buy time for it to escape. Because I am Kalon, the greatest genius Aramis has ever seen! The best inventor! The smartest man alive! I am the Machine god! And I will live on!’
With a crazed burst of strength, Kalon slammed his hands against the ground, forcing out the last remnants of his divinity.
As a demigod with a lower level, Arthur’s presence alone weakened him by over 30%, disrupting his energy flow, but he was determined to stop him at any cost.
His body trembled as he unleashed his final trump card.
“Unique Skill—Machine god: Divine Overload Mode!!!”
