Chapter 861 - 861: Rachel Cassowar
A few moments after he recalled the Wolfen war, Evan’s senses picked up on a small surge of Divinity, and with widened eyes, he turned towards the source—Arthur.
“Aren’t you supposed to be a godslayer? How the heck do you have Divinity?!”
Divinity was the signature energy of the god race, so Evan felt that a godslayer should NOT have that power and instead, have something that could negate it.
But Arthur just looked at him with a raised brow, realisation flashing in his eyes before he explained.
“My dad’s a god. It makes perfect sense for me to have Divinity.”
“Wait, your dad’s a god?! And you’re a godslayer??”
Arthur silently used magic to isolate the sound of their conversation, otherwise, everyone on the bustling street would have heard Evan’s loud voice.
“Yes, he is. The cosmos was playing a practical joke on the god race, making the Progenitor of their slayer be a kid of one of them.”
With such a reply, Arthur pushed open a gate and entered a compound, offering a friendly wave to the security guards who waved back. He headed into the apartment complex standing there, making his way up the stairs with familiarity in his movements.
Evan followed him silently, his mind still trying to understand the bombshells in the form of Arthur’s family dynamics that he just found out about.
“Mind if I ask what race your mother is?”
“Leviathan Devil.”
“…I don’t even know what that is…”
To be honest, besides the Aidosian races, Evan didn’t know much about other races on other worlds and he didn’t bother because he never thought he was going to meet any of them.
But here he was.
‘I know “Infernal Devils.” But what about “Leviathan Devils”? They’re both “Devils” but what makes them different?’
A moment after he asked himself this, he shook his head and put those thoughts away. He also chose to set aside any attempts to rationalize how Arthur became a godslayer and simply trailed behind the silver-haired boy, ascending to the fifth floor of the building.
Arthur headed directly to the door of the only apartment on this floor, pressing the doorbell repeatedly in quick succession.
*DING! DING!! DING!!! DING!!!!
“I think they should have heard you the first time…”
“Nahh. She’s probably sleeping by this time so I need to ring it more so she can wake up.”
Arthur maintained his mischievous grin as he continued speaking, pressing the bell with playful intent.
With his superhuman hearing, Evan detected footsteps approaching from behind and in that moment, Arthur ducked.
The door burst open a second later, and a fist shot through the air where Arthur’s head had been moments before.
‘I can understand you unknown home owner. I’d probably punch anyone who rang my doorbell like that too.’
Evan couldn’t help but sympathize with the homeowner’s reaction, completely on board with it.
As for Arthur, he stood back up and grabbed the outstretched hand, pulling its owner out of the apartment. With his right arm encircling her waist, he greeted her with a teasing tone.
“Hello, Rachel. It’s nice to see me, isn’t it?”
It was a pretty girl with a cascade of brown hair framing her face, flowing naturally with a hint of soft waves. Reflected along with Arthur’s image in her brown eyes, was a look of pure annoyance and her brows twitched repeatedly when she saw the smile on Arthur’s face.
She took a deep breath, clearly struggling to stay calm, before delivering a headbutt that elicited a surprised “Ouch!” from Arthur.
“Serves you right for disturbing my sleep. Why on Aramis did I tell you my off days?”
The girl sighed, clearly regretting her earlier decision, while Arthur, who had taken 0 damage from her headbutt, laughed as he draped his arm over her shoulder.
“Because you wanted me to come visit you, isn’t that why?”
“…”
Arthur said this as a joke, expecting a sharp retort. But Rachel remained silent, and Arthur’s playful demeanour shifted as he realized he’d hit the mark.
“Oh my, someone’s been missing me so much! Don’t worry, I’ll visit more often.”
“Don’t push it, Arthur.”
‘Rachel’, retorted with a glare, before finally turning to Evan who was a bit confused as he noticed that in the short moments between Arthur knocking on the door and it opening—
‘His power reduced to Level 400? Why’s he hiding it?’
“Who’s this?”
Rachel asked this and Arthur proceeded to give an explanation.
“Ah, Rachel, meet Evan. He’s a Dragonkin who got yeeted through space by someone on Gozon’s side, separating him from his companions so he’s staying with me for a while till he can get back.”
“Oh…”
Evan barely concealed the look of surprise that nearly appeared on his face when he heard Arthur’s words.
Why was he surprised? Simple; Not a single thing Arthur said had been a lie!
He had actually gotten yeeted through space by the god behind Gozon in the future, and Arthur’s casual statement had hit the nail on the head as it did earlier, only that this time, Arthur didn’t even know it.
“Sorry about that. I hope you get back safely.”
“…thank you.”
Evan thanked the girl for her goodwill and she nodded, before pulling Arthur into the apartment along with her. He followed them and turned with the intention to close the door behind him, only for it to shut itself.
In that instant, he noticed three layers of magic seals activating and couldn’t help but feel a bit amazed.
‘Well…security’s very tight.’
“You got that plushie we saw last time!”
Arthur’s sudden exclamation turned Evan’s attention away from the seals on the door to the sight of the silver-haired teen holding up a giant penguin plushie.
“Yeah, it went on discount like a week after you left for Zefesh.”
Rachel responded as she returned to the living room with a tray containing pink coloured drinks that made Evan’s eyes light up.
‘Strawberries!’
He fast walked his way over and picked one, thanking the girl for it before quickly downing the contents of the glass.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. I hope this silver idiot isn’t giving you a hard time…”
Evan chuckled lightly at her form of address towards Arthur, one which Arthur clearly didn’t seem to mind as he made his way into the girl’s kitchen like he owned the place.
“He’s not, I think?”
“You think? That sounds like he definitely is.”
Seeing her shake her head with a sigh, Evan just smiled wryly behind his mask, activating his Appraisal skill on the girl.

‘Oh, she’s quite strong for her level. And this ‘Rocky Tornado’ skill looks nice. I’d take it if I get the chance.’
As of now, Evan had not utilized his Mystic Eyes in front of Arthur and the others, so they had not seen the glowing symbol within them.
Evan was considering getting contacts like Arthur to hide the symbol, mainly from Artemisia and Beatrix who were Aidosian.
10,000 years in the future, the language that the word ‘Mimicry’ was written in was ‘Ancient’ and ‘Forgotten’, but that might not be the case now. Artemisia might know it, and if she sees it in Evan’s eyes, she’d understand it and quickly figure Evan was from Aidos.
‘Wait, why am I even hiding I’m from Aidos anyway?
Preventing past Artemisia from finding out I’m from the future was one of the reasons I tried to conceal my face and status, but that cat ran out of the bag long ago.
Artemisia probably doesn’t want her past self to find out that I’m from Aidos as well. Why else would she obscure the ‘Mimicry’ part of my Unique Skill name.’
Evan’s thoughts were quickly interrupted by the line that escaped Rachel’s lips at that same moment.
“He’s been like this since the army. Becoming a Mercenary has only made him even worse…”
“Army? He was in the Army?”
Evan had appraised Rachel just now and he saw her title that clearly stated ‘Master Sergeant of the Aramisian Coalition Army’, so the only army she could possibly be referring to was obvious.
‘But Arthur is on the side of the Demons…?’
Arthur entered just then, and Evan seized the opportunity to ask him about it, his question carrying a dual meaning.
“You’re Ex-Military?”
“Hmm? That sounds like a grand title for someone who only spent less than two weeks in the Aramisian Army.”
His reply confirmed that he was indeed in the same Army that Rachel was in. But as he replied, he raised a finger in front of his mouth, stylishly telling Evan to ‘shush’ before continuing.
“Rachel and I were in Duskhand together until the place went boom.”
When Arthur said that, Rachel’s expression visibly darkened and she glared at him lightly.
“I actually thought you’d died, you know?”
“That makes two of us. What were the odds that the Inner City would get destroyed on the Day I left?”
Evan’s jaws behind his mask were already dropping as low as physically possible as he watched Arthur’s casual conversation with Rachel.
“That damned ‘Silver Summoner’…he took advantage of General Duskhand’s absence.”
“General Duskhand was still recuperating from the wounds he sustained against the ‘Demon of Light’, after all.”
The ‘Demon of Light’ was Alvey’s title, and Evan noticed a murderous glint flash in Rachel’s eyes when she called it, enough for him to know that the girl had a personal vendetta against Alvey.
“The ‘Demon of Light’ and the ‘Silver Summoner’…”
Rachel clenched her fist so tightly that her nails bit into her palm as she spoke, barely being able to conceal the hatred in her tone.
The second title she called made Evan blink in confusion as he had seen that same title on Arthur’s status earlier this morning.
‘Arthur IS the “Silver Summoner”, isn’t he? He’s the one who destroyed Duskhand! And here he is acting like it’s someone else!’
Evan silently appraised Arthur, trying to see if it’d work this time, and it did. However, the status he saw was NOT the same one he saw in the morning, but the status of a Superior Grandmaster Realm existence with a title that said ‘S Tier Mercenary’.
“Alright, enough talking about those two. Just hearing those titles ruins my mood.”
Rachel ended the talk right there before getting up and heading to the kitchen to wash the little blood off her hands.
At that moment, Evan cast magic to isolate sound before looking at Arthur and asking.
“She doesn’t know you’re with the Demons?!”
“Does she look like she does?”
“…”
True, Rachel certainly didn’t appear to know that Arthur was the same ‘Silver Summoner’ that she hated so much.
“Dude…”
Evan didn’t even know how to react to this situation. He remembered that the demon duo he spoke with earlier said that Arthur had ‘infiltrated’ Duskhand city before destroying it, and he quickly figured Arthur must have met Rachel then.
From their interactions and the way she didn’t mind Arthur moving around as he pleased in her house, it was obvious that they were close and Evan actually felt a twinge of pity towards her for her ignorance.
‘Well, I’m not gonna say anything though.’
Evan wasn’t about to spill the beans. That was guaranteed to piss Arthur off and Evan sure as hell did NOT want a pissed-off progenitor with connections to 7 Demon Kings after him.
