Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 898 - 898: Oh, it’s Arthur

“Hey, Beatrix! You forgot to mention the crowd already waiting for us in here!”

Indeed, there were not just one or two but ten Forsaken Divines, each with bulging, squelching organs where their heads should be, all facing in his direction.

Immediately, they roared and charged towards him, just as the ones chasing them from behind entered, trapping the three teenagers in a pincer.

Now they were surrounded—ten in front, five at their backs, and the sounds of more approaching from the other hallways.

At this, Evan clenched his fists and switched out the magic stone in his Energem Reclaimer, ready to use his Blessing of Destruction + Limit Break combo when a thunderous crack echoed from above.

He looked up, barely dodging as chunks of rock and shards of glass began raining down from the ceiling, which had fractured under the impact of something heavy.

Dust filled the air as more rocks tumbled, and the Forsaken Divines charged ahead, oblivious to the falling debris.

Another deafening impact struck, sending even more cracks spidering across the dome. Evan’s expression darkened as he scanned the unstable ceiling above.

“This might have been a bad location choice…let’s get out of here, now!”

He shouted at the two girls before bolting towards the exit. Summoning the Unforged Vale, he swirled his energy around the blade in preparation to unleash a Vortex.

But before he could, another deafening impact reverberated through the chamber, followed by the centre of the dome ceiling collapsing inwards.

Sunlight poured through the gaping hole, and a figure descended, framed by the bright afternoon glow.

Evan’s eyes widened as it was one that he and the other two recognized.

“Arthur?”

Sure enough, the silver-haired boy with red and blue eyes floated down from above. His gaze swept over the Forsaken Divines, and with a snap of his fingers, crimson-red spears of light shot forward, piercing each monster cleanly.

They froze in place, as if suspended in time, and with a second snap, Arthur unleashed a new barrage of crimson energy that struck the same spots again.

The creatures stiffened, then collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

Arthur had taken them all out in a single move, precision and power combined.

Evan raised an eyebrow, retracting his energy as he sheathed his sword. He wondered how Arthur had so accurately targeted their cores but then remembered—Arthur was the Progenitor godslayer.

The boy had stated it was impossible for ‘Anything Divine’ to hide from him, so he likely had no trouble pinpointing their Artificial Divine Cores.

Arthur landed smoothly, glancing at the group with a smirk on his face.

“Well, well, looks like you all managed to find a bit of trouble while I was gone.”

Such were his words as he stepped forward and Beatrix looked at him in confusion.

“You’re out of your law comprehension session already?”

“Yeah, Finally worked out a few things about the Law of Time, so I figured it was time for a break. Alvey mentioned you guys were in the west, so I came to check on you.”

Arthur looked around at the fallen monsters and chuckled.

“Didn’t expect to find you all…getting cornered by this lot.”

“Oh, please, you have no idea how annoying these things were.”

Beatrix shot back, crossing her arms with an exasperated huff and Arthur chuckled once more, taking a step closer.

“Touché. I guess I skipped right past the ‘getting-to-know-them’ phase.”

Artemisia sheathed her swords as Arthur approached, her gaze shifting between him and Evan, who was eyeing Arthur with a curious intensity.

Evan’s mind was on the notification he’d received earlier, the one that had stirred his suspicions. Finally, he broke the silence.

“Hey, Arthur!”

Arthur turned, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, what’s up?”

“Quick question, totally unrelated to the current situation. Who’s the first boss of Souls of the Dark 2?”

Arthur’s face registered momentary confusion as he processed the question. Beatrix and Artemisia exchanged puzzled glances, wondering what Evan was getting at.

Finally, Arthur shrugged, his tone nonchalant.

“Well, obviously, it’s the Last Giant.”

Evan nodded, the look in his eyes unchanging.

“Correct answer.”

Arthur was about to ask why the question had even come up, but Evan continued, cutting him off.

“But here’s the thing— ‘Arthur’ shouldn’t know that answer. After all, Arthur hasn’t played Souls of the Dark 2. It’s a game from the future, after all.”

“…”

Silence fell over the room like a shroud the moment Evan spoke.

Both boys stared at each other in silence for a good ten seconds, and finally, Evan broke the silence, beginning a tale of a past experience.

“Once, back in the future, I was exploring a place called the Cavern of Trials with companions of mine.

The moment I entered, that dungeon scanned through my memories, reading them to create the Replica trials it would throw at me.”

He gave a half-shrug like it was no big deal, but his gaze was fixed on Arthur before him.

“Anyway, thanks to Artemisia, I happen to possess an ability that lets me adapt to certain…phenomena.

It’s like… once something messes with me, I can develop a resistance to it.”

Evan slowly stepped forward, his gaze unmoving as he continued.

“Since I’ve gotten my memories read before, my ability has already done its work.

Long story short, if someone tries to read my memories, they wouldn’t be able to. If your memory-reading powers are that good, then you might get a glimpse, but it’s all surface-level junk.

Even if you prod deeper, it’d all be scrambled, mixed together—as such, it’s possible that they can mistake something I know, for something that someone else in my memory knows, especially if I have talked about the topic in great detail with that person.”

Pausing in his steps and staring down at Arthur, Evan rephrased his words.

“It’s possible that you can mistake something that I know, for something that Arthur knows, especially since Arthur and I have discussed that topic extensively.”

Holding up his palms clasped together, Evan concluded.

“But here’s the thing—Arthur’s never played that game, and I never told him who ‘The Last Giant’ was, so he shouldn’t know it.”

At his words, Beatrix and Artemisia tensed and they raised the weapons they had initially lowered.

Seeing this, Arthur had his expression twist into a cold smile, realizing the jig was up.

“Impressive.”

He spoke, his voice now dropping into a lower, more menacing tone.

“You caught on quicker than I expected.”

“Oh, I sure did.”

Evan responded and the two stared at each other in silence for a moment.

And in the next—

**BAAAMM!!!!

A shockwave rippled out as the imposter’s fist collided with Evan’s sword which cut through the air at breakneck speed.

‘Fast!’

Beatrix had her eyes widen in shock as she was barely able to track the movement of the imposter’s fist because of her dilated perception owning to her special eyes.

The image of a starry sky that appeared in her eyes whenever she used her powers wasn’t for fancy, after all.

Evan had drawn his sword at supersonic speed and met the punch of the imposter head-on and the force of the impact had sent a shockwave rippling through the area, the clash of steel and ‘flesh’ echoing loudly as the two pushed against each other, sparks flying between them.

“I wonder, when did you get suspicious? From when I read your memories?”

The imposter spoke, a mocking edge to his voice, and Evan shoved them back with a powerful strike.

The imposter flipped mid-air and landed on the ground, and Evan swung his blade through the air, igniting it with searing flames as he spoke.

“Arthur and I… we’re a little bit special, you see?”

Evan replied, his voice calm as he stepped forward and activated Blessing of Destruction.

“I didn’t sense that specialness in you.”

He dashed forward, kicking off the ground with explosive speed and the Imposter only sneered and responded.

“What the hell are you even talking about?”

He launched himself toward Evan, and as they clashed, he partially dropped his disguise, revealing patches of his true form beneath Arthur’s illusion. With a furious swing, he threw a punch, but Evan vanished, reappearing behind him in a flash, his blade blazing in a wide arc.

“Hell Unleashed.”

Evan’s powerful slash struck the imposter’s back, detonating in a burst of flames that shook the entire area, sending his target hurtling through the air.

Yet, as Evan watched the imposter fly through the air, his expression darkened. As the one who threw out the attack, he could tell—the attack hadn’t connected fully, something had deflected it at the last moment.

The imposter twisted mid-air, regaining his balance before landing gracefully. Then, with a final shrug, he shed his disguise completely, revealing his true form.

His body enlarged, growing to a two-metre-tall frame, and he summoned a large great sword easily as long as Evan was tall, crackling with light magic and divinity.

A thin layer of light magic covered his skin and the ground cracked open and reforged into earthen shields that floated around him.

Seeing what he really looked like, Evan activated appraisal, viewing the status board of the entity before them.

‘Last Forsaken Divine?

If he’s the ‘Last’ then what are the creatures we’ve been seeing around then?

Also, that curse title…could he be the owner of that journal we found earlier?’

Such questions crossed Evan’s mind as he used Space Warp to teleport right in front of Rezaemon.
