Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 916 - 916: Theatrics of Reunion

Arthur put on his contact lenses, while Evan simply went in like normal, with his mask on.

Their features allowed them to easily blend in with the Aramisians. Arthur had Divinity, and Evan was a Draconic Human.

Aramisians had Dragons on their side as well, with Divine Dragons leading them all. It was very easy for them to mistake Evan for a Dragon on their side, especially since everyone who saw him on the battlefield was in the afterlife.

Their goal for entering the inner regions of Plomux was rather simple. They were meeting up with Artemisia and Beatrix.

Originally, they should have gone the day before, but Beatrix was occupied so they had to go the next day.

Thanks to Artemisia, the two girls could suppress their Divine nature to the point where they appeared to be normal Divine Humans to most people. Other gods would be able to see through them at a glance though.

Anyway, this allowed them to walk on the streets of Plomux’s cities without anyone making a fuss about them being gods.

Most of the cities they entered were in the middle of evacuating the majority of civilians towards the Southern part of the continent since the East and West were overrun by Gozon.

It had only taken a little over a week for the Gozonians to gain full control of Eastern Plomux and the morale of the Aramisians Coalition force was at an all-time low.

Even the reinforcements from other worlds which were finally deployed didn’t seem to help in raising overall morale.

“You done, Evan?”

“Yep!”

Evan responded as he paid for the strawberries he just bought and jogged up to Arthur who held up his right hand and tapped the wide bracelet there.

Just then, the space in front of them shimmered and a swirling vortex began to form, one that Evan recognized.

“You can create Spatial Gates?”

He knew Arthur could teleport long distances, but Spatial Gate creation was completely different.

“It’s actually a Cosmic Gate. And yeah, I can.”

Arthur responded as the Gate completely formed in seconds and Evan couldn’t help but ask.

“How so?”

“It’s my Cosmic Teleporter. I can open a gate to anywhere on the continent in less than five seconds. If I want to go off the continent, it takes a bit longer. Maybe ten, or twenty seconds. Heading off-planet? That can take a few minutes.”

The boy pointed at the strange bracelet on his right arm and Evan’s jaw nearly dropped to the ground.

Letting out a low whistle, he asked.

“That’s broken as hell. Can I borrow that?”

“Obviously not.”

Arthur raised an eyebrow, shaking his head with a laugh and Evan just chuckled along with him.

“Yeah, I figured. Like you’d ever let anyone else use it.”

The question had been more for the sake of banter than anything serious. Even if Arthur were willing to lend it out, Evan wouldn’t be able to use it properly—after all, he didn’t possess Cosmic Energy like Arthur did.

The two stepped in through the cosmic gate and reappeared in the middle of a forest clearing, surrounded by towering trees.

◇ ◇ ◇

Artemisia and Beatrix sat on a small rock in the middle of a clearing, surrounded by trees whose branches swayed gently in the breeze.

Sunlight filtered through the leaves, dappling the forest floor with patches of gold. The air was filled with the scent of pine and earth, calm and quiet—until a ripple appeared, shimmering in the fabric of space.

Beatrix’s eyes turned in the direction of the ripple and just then, a portal opened up to reveal Arthur and Evan.

As soon as Arthur’s gaze met Beatrix’s, both of them slipped seamlessly into a theatrical mode. Beatrix leapt to her feet, throwing her arms wide as if she were performing on a stage.

“Arthur!”

She cried, with the intensity of a long-lost lover.

“Oh, how I have missed you!”

Arthur’s eyes filled with feigned anguish, clutching his chest as he spoke.

“Beatrix, my dear!”

He broke into a slow-motion run towards her, exaggerating each step as he drew closer. Beatrix mirrored his movements, both of them running as though every second stretched into an eternity.

When they finally reached each other, they pulled themselves into an overly dramatic embrace, squeezing tightly as if they had been separated by years instead of moments.

Evan and Artemisia exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of confusion and resignation respectively.

Arthur pulled back, looking into Beatrix’s eyes with exaggerated sincerity.

“Did we make you wait long?”

Beatrix sighed, placing a hand on her chest.

“Yes, Arthur. We waited long…so very long.”

Arthur dropped to his knees, clutching his chest as if struck by an unbearable guilt.

“Oh, how could I? How could I dare to make you wait?”

Beatrix raised her arms, a soft glow radiating from her form as she channelled her divinity, giving herself an ethereal, sacred aura,

She spoke in a soft voice dripping with compassion.

“Worry not, child. All sins shall be forgiven by the light.”

Arthur clasped his hands together, raising his gaze to her with a fanatical gleam in his eyes.

“The light! The light forgives all!”

Evan watched the two with an incredulous expression, completely confused as he turned to Artemisia and asked.

“Are they… always like this?”

“Ninety percent of the time.”

Artemisia’s response was deadpan, her eyes clearly telling the story of how many times she’d had to deal with this.

Evan blinked at her response, processing this new revelation.

He’d been on adventures with each of them separately, but this was the first time he was moving together with Arthur, Beatrix, and Artemisia all together.

He arched an eyebrow, curiosity piqued.

“And the other ten percent?”

“They goof off even more than this.”

Artemisia replied, her tone as flat as ever and Evan couldn’t say he didn’t expect this from Arthur and Beatrix.

The two in question were wrapping up their grand reunion performance, and Beatrix turned towards Evan, grinning as she added him to their little theatre.

“Evan!

O, how tedious hath been your tardy pace. That hath kept me in expectation’s bitter grasp!”

Evan laughed, unable to resist. He bowed deeply, sweeping one arm out with exaggerated grace.

“Fair Beatrix, our gracious lady, we do beseech thy pardon for our tardiness, and deeply rue the moments thou hast lost, awaiting our arrival with patience and distress.”

Artemisia’s gaze on Evan turned icy, her expression clearly asking; Really? You’re joining them?

Evan grinned and doubled down on his act, and Arthur, laughing, pulled a bag of popcorn from seemingly nowhere, settling in to watch the show.

Beatrix gave Evan a theatrical nod of approval, while Arthur clapped, thoroughly enjoying the spectacle.

Meanwhile, Artemisia sighed, pressing her fingers to her temple, and looked up to the sky.

“Oh, please give me the strength not to punch these three idiots in the face.”

She muttered, her voice laced with exasperation and hearing her, the other three simultaneously burst into laughter.

“So, what held you guys up yesterday?”

Evan asked, dusting off his sleeves as if nothing had happened and Arthur was the one who responded.

“They were carrying out an assassination for Beatrix’s mother.”

“A what now?”

Beatrix chuckled upon hearing Evan’s dumbfounded response. But rather than her laughter, the part that shocked Evan was the fact that she didn’t deny his words.

It turned out that the reason she and Artemisia couldn’t make it the day before was because they were assassinating the great-grandson of a prominent god King of the Aramis faction.

“One of the conditions her mother gave for her to stay here is that she has to hunt down the descendants of god Rulers that her mother doesn’t like to either kill them or teach them a lesson.”

“…”

Evan was silent at Arthur’s words. He’d never even conceived of such a situation before. Turning to Artemisia, he was about to ask if she was the same but she shook her head and denied it before he could even speak.

So, it was just Beatrix who had this ‘side job’ of hunting down other gods.

“That’s one hell of a side quest.”

Those were the words he uttered and Arthur could only laugh at Evan’s game analogy.

“Anyway, where’re we going?”

The moment Beatrix asked her question, Artemisia swiftly unfurled a worn, intricate map, pointing directly at their destination with a precise, almost urgent gesture.

Her intention was clear—keep everyone focused before their earlier theatrics could return in full force. Beatrix chuckled as she noticed Artemisia’s intention and leaned over to examine the destination.

“Another set of ruins? So earthy.”

Contrary to Beatrix’s deflated attitude, Artemisia was rather…excited? Evan could only guess as her facial muscles only moved a bit.

“These ruins hold evidence of an ancient Aramisian civilization! Do you have any idea how much data we could collect?”

“You know you’re the only one who gets a thrill out of this stuff, right?”

Despite Beatrix’s words, she had no intention of backing out. She would go along with Artemisia, no matter what.

Arthur, on the other hand, had other agendas first.

“Hold on, Artemisia. Before you dive headfirst into exploration mode, let’s tackle the real reason I came here.

I want to test out the new powers.”

His words made Artemisia sigh and she crossed her arms. Rolling her eyes in obvious displeasure, she spoke.

“Ah, that. Of course, you do.

But, Arthur, you know I don’t exactly enjoy being on the receiving end of your ‘Progenitor godslayer’ authority.”

But Arthur only shrugged in response.

“Yeah, I know. That doesn’t mean we’re not doing it. Or rather, let’s get started now.”

Before they could begin whatever it was they wanted, Beatrix quickly wove a teleportation spell, warping herself away along with Evan who was standing right next to her.

They reappeared over a hundred meters away and Evan blinked as he found himself relocated as well. He turned to Beatrix, confused as he asked.

“Why’d you leave?”

“You wouldn’t get it. You’re not a god, so you don’t know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of Arthur’s slayer powers. It’s… unpleasant, to put it mildly.”

Evan tilted his head thoughtfully. He recalled facing a half-dragon slayer once, and he recalled having taken damage as the half-dragonslayer’s fangs ignored his durability due to his draconic factors.

And that was just a half-dragon slayer. Arthur, on the other hand, was a full-fledged, Progenitor godslayer, whose powers went far beyond any other.

gods like Artemisia and Beatrix were the prime targets for them.

Noticing Beatrix’s sudden escape, Arthur raised his voice, smirking.

“Beatrix, you know I can choose my targets, right? And, for the record, my range is a few hundred thousand kilometres. A hundred meters won’t save you.”

“I’ll still stay as far away from you as I physically can.”

When Beatrix responded like this, Arthur’s mischievous grin widened, and Beatrix felt a chill run down her spine.

She immediately cast teleportation magic but the spell failed just as quickly as she cast it. Her attempt to escape failed as Arthur disrupted the space around her.

He then used his power to make her energies spiral out of control and she dropped to her knees, a pained expression on her face, and glared at him.

“Arthur, really?”

“What? It’s fun.”

Arthur chuckled in response, withdrawing his power and Artemisia who was next to him let out a weary sigh.

“Arthur, can we please get this over with?”

“Oh, right.”

He replied, turning his attention back to the task while Evan approached Beatrix who was still stretching her arms, wincing at the lingering effects.

“Just a few seconds under that, and my limbs feel like lead.”

She flexed her fingers, regaining full control over her movements, and gave Evan a weary glance.

“Hope you never run into a dragonslayer. Trust me.”

Evan scratched his head, a sympathetic look in her eyes as he responded.

“Actually, I’ve met one already. I think I can partially relate to what you mean.”

“Oh, really? Then you should understand.

Arthur’s power is something else entirely, though.”

She brushed herself off, before turning her gaze towards Arthur and Artemisa who were blasting apart innocent rocks with their divinities.
