Chapter 946 - 946: Universal Laws and Return to Central
There were countless laws out there, and his Elemental Combat Class Modifier made mastering a wide range of them particularly tempting.
Still, he needed to take things step by step.
‘For now, Lightning would be a Secondary priority.’
He shifted his gaze to Arthur, who had retracted his law energies and spoke.
“Weapon Universal Laws…”
Arthur raised an eyebrow, immediately catching on.
“Hmm? Ah, you want to pick one up? It’d be good. They are very versatile.”
Arthur immediately anticipated what Evan was about to say before the Rogue Hero could even begin.
Without further prompting, Arthur reached into his subspace and pulled out a greyish crystal. The sharp, cutting energy radiating from it was the same as what Arthur had radiated a few moments ago.
“Is that…?”
“A sword law crystal? Yeah.”
Arthur answered Beatrix’s half-asked question as he spun the crystal on his finger. He then extended his arm to Evan with the crystal still spinning and asked.
“You want it? Take it. Though you’ll only be able to use it at Transcendence—unlike me.”
His casual offer drew sharp looks from Artemisia and Beatrix, their incredulity evident.
“Arthur…do you know that Deities go to war over Law Crystals?”
To Artemisia’s question, Arthur nodded silently. The girl pressed her fingers to her temple before pointing at the crystal in his hand and asking again.
“And that’s a High-Rank Law Crystal, isn’t it? Do you have any idea how many Race Kings would kill to get their hands on that?”
At Artemisia’s words, Evan froze. His gaze shifted to his inventory, where a handful of Law Crystals he and Eliza had collected in the Regal Void Expanse now stared back at him.
Meanwhile, Arthur was more intrigued by Artemisia’s ability to recognize the law crystal’s rank than by her reminder of its potential to spark Interplanetary Wars.
Something with that kind of potential wasn’t typically handed out for free!
“Oh, is that what’s bothering you? That’s not a problem. I’ve got at least a dozen more in my subspace.”
“Why do you even have a dozen law crystals in the first place?”
Beatrix asked, letting out a half-exasperated sigh. But Arthur blinked at her in response, then casually corrected her in a way that made her instantly regret the question.
“I meant I have a dozen Sword Law crystals.”
In other words, he had crystals for other laws as well, probably in the dozens.
While this conversation was going on, Evan sifted through the crystals in his inventory but couldn’t find anything that resembled the one in Arthur’s hands. He then looked up and interrupted.
“Arthur, mind if I take that? I don’t think I have any Sword Law Crystals. I knew where I could’ve gotten one, but someone else probably beat me to it.
Besides, if that’s a ‘High Rank’ crystal, that means it covers all Sword Law Ranks from Basic to High, right? If so, I’d really like to have it.”
“Kay.”
Arthur responded with a simple word as he casually tossed the crystal—worth more than entire planets—towards Evan.
True to form, Evan nonchalantly caught it, tossed it into his inventory, and shut it, all while the two goddesses stared, utterly stunned.
And who could blame them? They had seen Deities fight like children over these law crystals. They had witnessed people sell entire planets to acquire them.
Yet, here was Arthur, handing one over for free like it was nothing.
Calling what they were witnessing a Culture Shock would be a severe understatement.
Alas, Evan practised the Dao of ignoring things that gave him a headache, so he ignored all that talk of the crystals being used to buy planets and focused on his Law Priority List.
Primary: Fire, Destruction, Ice (Water).
Secondary: Lightning, Swords, Space, Darkness.
He added Darkness to the list because of his contract with Kuro, and Space was there because of his desire to create a Bounded Field, and because he wanted to gain a counter to a certain Demonic Hand Executive’s ability to erase space.
“I guess we’re done here, are we not?”
“Yeah, we are.”
Arthur responded to Evan, before turning to the two girls who were still giving them incredulous looks.
“You guys still aren’t over it?”
“”…””
They deadpanned Arthur, before sighing simultaneously and taking a page from Evan’s book—ignoring anything that’d give them a headache.
“You guys can start heading back to where Alvey is. Arty and I are going back to Gledea.”
Beatrix began speaking, dragging her leg across the ground to draw a teleportation magic circle as she continued.
“We might just go back home from there.”
Just as she said that, an item in her pocket began to buzz and when she pulled out the item, her eyes widened slightly.
“Oh, it’s my mum.”
She looked up at the two boys in front of her and activated the teleportation magic circle at her feet, coating her and Artemisia in spatial light.
“See Ya later.”
And then they were gone in a flash of light.
Left behind, Arthur and Evan didn’t dawdle too long. Arthur first of all used his destruction power to erase everything in the area, including the corpses of the Aramisians they had killed.
After this, Arthur created a spatial gate that led straight to the Gozonian Army Outpost in Plomux Central and they both entered, vanishing from the area.
◇ ◇ ◇
When Arthur and Evan got to Plomux Central, the Demon Army Generals were currently in a meeting where they decided on the plan of action for attacking Plomux High Command and taking over from the Aramisians.
Evan expressed doubts about whether he was supposed to be present at such a meeting, but Arthur simply assured him that it was fine since the Rogue Hero was considered his aide.
Arthur maintained his typical casual demeanour as he entered, though his first words did cause a few heads to turn.
Not surprising considering he mentioned how he had to handle the corpses of dead gods.
He then mentioned that he and Evan had wiped out a Division of the Aramisian Army which had been en route to Plomux-Central as reinforcements.
The Generals were stunned, especially when Arthur casually noted that he had taken down the Division’s commanders and that the rest had been dealt with by his summons, Evan and two other unnamed associates (Artemisia and Beatrix’s presence on Aramis was secret so he didn’t name drop them).
It turned out that Alvey was aware of this Division, and had details that the Lieutenant General in charge of the Division was a Level 884 Superior Sovereign, with several other high-ranking officers at Levels 800 to 866.
Alvey and McEnda, who knew Arthur’s abilities well, were trying to process how he could have pulled this off. Defeating a Superior Sovereign should have been far beyond Arthur’s capabilities as far as they knew.
Arthur, however, continued in his usual laid-back tone, explaining how he had simply taken out the commanding officers while his summons had handled the rest.
When it was time for the meeting to start, he “nuked the whole place” with a Seismic Surge, though some of the enemies managed to escape.
Evan casually added that chasing down Superior Legendries trying to flee had been no easy task, leaving the roomful of generals staring at the two boys as though they were aliens.
Which, technically, they were—but that was hardly the point.
Despite how casual they seemed, Alvey and McEnda knew that they were serious, and it was due to this that they finally noticed something that they, as well as everyone else, had overlooked.
Neither Arthur nor Evan seemed to be exerting any noticeable aura fluctuations, which they knew was a result of Arthur’s powerful concealment techniques.
But Evan, too, was controlling his energy well enough to prevent anyone from discerning his level at a glance.
Upon paying closer attention to Evan, Alvey realized that the boy was now a Legendary. Thinking about how far off from the Legendary Level Evan had been some days ago, Alvey was mildly surprised.
‘Wherever they went, Evan gained enough EXP to bridge the 40+ level gap and climb the chasm between the Epic and Legendary Realms.
If that’s the case, then there’s no way Arthur wouldn’t at least get a benefit for himself. It’s safe to assume that Arthur and Inferior Sovereign now.’
McEnda shared Alvey’s conclusion, though they were unaware that Arthur had skipped both the Inferior and Intermediate Sovereign stages, now a Superior Sovereign.
Their thoughts were interrupted when Arthur jokingly asked if they should not have killed the Division, to which Alvey replied that it was actually a good thing, as they could now redirect resources elsewhere.
The conversation turned back to the meeting, but Arthur, ever the distraction, leaned over to McEnda and asked if he knew any Demon King skilled in Spatial Isolation and Size Reduction.
McEnda, though half-curious and half-skeptical, made a suggestion that caught Evan’s attention.
“Hmm? When you say ‘Demon King’ and ‘Spatial manipulation’, then it’s Demon King Westley.”
“That guy again?”
Arthur had heard the name of the Demon King called ‘Westley’ numerous times. He was also one of the reasons why Arthur possessed a Major General Rank in the Gozonian Army.
Evan, who was behind them had his eyes widen ever so slightly at the mention of the name.
‘Westley? That’s the one Conroe spoke about…’
The boy remembered when the Fallen Celestial Deity, Conroe, had made a miraculous revival during the incident in Tarse that ended up with him being sent back in time.
Conroe had mistaken him for someone called Prisma, and he mentioned something that Evan couldn’t ignore.
[…Put a mask on his face and he’d look exactly the same as he did that day we first met him in the Infernal Dimension, right before we had the disagreement with the ‘Cultivator Lords’ of Denerth Prime!
He’s the boy who was with “Lucifer’s Descendant” and “Demon King Westley”!]
Evan had initially been very confused at that time, but after being sent to the past, some of his questions were answered.
If Evan was really the ‘Masked Person’ that Conroe was talking about, then he was bound to encounter Lucifer’s Descendant and Demon King Westley.
He was also going to end up in somewhere called the ‘Infernal Dimension’.
Evan was sinking deeper into his thoughts when Arthur suddenly called out to him.
“Yo, Evan. Would you be good? They’ve got dragonslayers.”
For a moment, Evan was confused. Then he remembered that he was currently in a meeting to discuss how they were attacking the Aramisians’ main command base on this continent.
“Not gonna lie, but I’m curious to see how well I’d fare against them. I’ve only met one and that one was a halfling.”
Evan remembered meeting a Half-dragonslayer during the Wolfen War, the wolf that had been the GEE Princess’ Heather’s mount.
Just because one was a Slayer didn’t guarantee them victory, it only increased the chances. In the end, it was still up to the individual to use their powers wisely, and many unwise Slayers had perished at the hands of those they wanted to Slay in the past.
Evan had every intention of adding any dragonslayers he encountered to that list of dead slayers.
As for Arthur, he was eager to see how Evan would perform against the dragonslayers. The excitement of the upcoming battle made him almost look forward to the confrontation more than the meeting itself.
