Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 949 - 949: The Law of Ice

“Oh wow. Now there are two of you.”

Evan’s gaze shifted to Tyvi, then back to the new arrival—a young man wielding a great sword, his aura unmistakably that of a dragonslayer.

He tilted his head, placing a hand on his chin as if in thought. He looked back at Tyvi, his eyes lingering on the mix of ice and sword law energy surrounding her blade.

“They say you learn something new every day. So I guess I might as well use you to learn today.

The boy’s magic power surged, transforming the area into a frozen wasteland within moments. Hundreds of Aramisians were encased in ice, their bodies frozen solid, while the Gozonians, though spared from being turned into statues, found their movements sluggish from the sudden, biting cold.

Tyvi’s eyes widened as she hastily channelled her ice law energy, creating a protective barrier around herself and the man beside her—her brother, Tyn.

“You’ve got control over ice laws, so it’s going to be quite ironic when I use you to learn to do the same and beat you with it.”

Evan’s voice carried a calm confidence as he shifted his focus, redirecting his magic power from maintaining the ice he’d created to tap into the ambient Ice Law energy around him.

With no prior experience in manipulating the law of ice, Evan was diving headfirst into uncharted territory. Yet, he intended to wield this newfound power in the heat of battle.

To put it bluntly, Evan’s confidence in defeating his opponents was absolute—so much so that he was attempting to learn and manipulate an entirely new law in the middle of combat against not one but two dragonslayers!

“Let’s see just how far I can push this.”

With those words, Evan’s magic power surged, sending ripples through the earth and splintering the ground all around him.

The two dragonslayers were shocked at the amount, but they quickly calmed themselves.

Dragons were the masters of magic. A Dragonkin possessing large magic reserves wasn’t anything to be surprised about.

They charged at the boy emanating golden magic power and just before they could attack, the ground beneath them cracked open.

They jumped out of the way to avoid Gravilife Convergence, having seen what it did to the previous Hero.

But when they looked back at Evan, they saw the boy trying and failing to control ice law energy.

It was then they realised his statement about ‘learning’ was not a joke. And that made it even worse!

“He’s seriously trying to learn law manipulation mid-battle?!”

Tyvi exclaimed, her disbelief evident, while Tyn beside her frowned silently.

Annoyed at being looked down on, Tyvi charged at him at full speed and filled her sword with the weapon’s eponymous law energy.

She swung the blade, aiming for his neck, but Evan sidestepped her attack and activated Time Difference, his Mystic Eyes glowing as he studied the law energy infusion in her sword.

“Hmm…”

Evan muttered as he ducked under the sweeping strike from Tyn’s great sword without even looking behind him.

Tyn’s blade crashed into the ground, sending tremors through the frozen earth and Evan noticed that he used Earth laws.

Just as he concluded this, Tyn’s hand flashed and Evan teleported away on instinct, reappearing to see a dozen spears of pressurized water cutting through the air where his head had been.

‘Oh, so it’s Earth and Water for him…’

Tyn manipulated the water spears and changed their form, reshaping them into an array of flying swords he sent to assist his sister who dashed at Evan and attacked repeatedly.

However, Evan had the ‘time’ to dodge due to Time Difference, and was even able to study the flow of law energy in her sword.

‘The law of ice is essentially a subset of the law of water. That much is obvious.

The difference lies in temperature manipulation—altering the kinetic energy of the water molecules to freeze them.

But it’s not as simple as freezing water. You have to balance between reducing molecular energy and stabilizing the resulting structure…’

Evan summarised the information about ice laws he got from both Arthur and Arlan Maddox’s memories.

“Stabilizing the resulting structure, huh?”

He mused aloud, ignoring the fury etched on Tyvi’s face as she charged and unleashed a flurry of slashes, only for him to dodge everything without even a scratch.

Tyvi’s blade came dangerously close, slicing a lock of hair from Evan’s head, but he didn’t so much as flinch. Instead, his gaze followed the faint trail of blue energy lingering in the air, absorbing every detail.

“Stability…”

Just as he said that, Tyn leapt into the air and brought his great sword down like a guillotine.

The ground trembled as Tyn’s strike landed, splitting the frozen terrain apart, but Evan wasn’t there. He reappeared a dozen meters away, entirely unconcerned about the damage Tyn’s attacks were causing the nearby demon soldiers as his mind worked through the principles of the laws he was observing.

“First, Water Laws. Understand the flow, then introduce control. Manipulate kinetic energy. Slow it, stabilize it, crystallize it.”

Evan raised his hand and summoned a swirling orb of water. It hovered in the air silently, before spinning rapidly.

He twisted his body to avoid a slash aiming for his arm and focused on the frost forming along the edges of the orb hovering above his palm.

Unfurling his wings, he took to the skies to avoid the AOE attack from Tyvi on the ground, then dropped back as the orb in his hands solidified into a sphere of ice.

“Too brittle…the balance is off.”

Evan muttered this as he reached out with his left hand and snapped his fingers, using Vindiction’s strike to blow away Tyn who attacked from his flank. He then stomped his foot and used Collapse, crumbling the earth beneath him to destabilise Tyvi’s footing.

Teleporting behind her, he punched her back with Fracture and used Permeating Strike to deal internal damage.

Blood spurted from her lips as her body was sent flying, but even as this happened, Evan never took his gaze off the orb of water freezing and defrosting in his palm.

It was like his body was moving on autopilot while his real focus was on the law manipulation he was trying to learn.

‘Am I focusing on a small area? Let’s enlarge things…’

With that thought, he shattered the ice sphere into fragments which rose into the air and began to spin around him. Snapping his fingers, the fragments merged once more, drawing in more ambient law energy until it formed a massive jagged chunk of ice.

‘Weird, I wanted to round it a bit more…’

At that moment, Tyn charged in and activated a skill, so Evan waved his hands and the jagged ice shot towards him at supersonic speed, reaching the dragonslayer before his skill’s effect could be seen.

Tyn roared, raising his great sword high and cleaving the ice in two. The sound of the impact echoed across the area, but Evan didn’t seem bothered.

He raised his left hand and the two massive chunks of ice moved again, hurtling toward Tyn from opposite directions.

Tyn managed to block one chunk, but the second slammed into him, forcing him back.

Evan then snapped his fingers and the shattered remains of the one that Tyn blocked with his great sword swirled into the air like a miniature blizzard.

The shards coalesced into a sphere once more, more rounded and far more stable.

‘Should I push it?’

Evan responded to his own question in the next moment as he infused the sphere with fire law energy, igniting it.

The blue ice slowly took on a golden sheen as flames licked along its surface.

With a finger snap, Evan launched it at Tyn and the dragonslayer barely had time to react, twisting around to block the attack with his great sword. The collision sent a shockwave of heat and cold rippling outward and Evan silently studied it.

‘The ‘cold’ is lacking. That’s expected, but it’s not because of the ‘heat’. My ice manipulation is just not as good as my flames.’

Evan shattered the frostfire sphere, transforming the fragments into dozens of flaming ice spears. Elemental Weapon Projection was activated and he created more and more projectiles in the air, raining them down on Tyn, with a few flying towards Tyvi as well.

This forced Tyn on the defensive as they were too fast to dodge, and Tyvi had to abandon her attack to defend herself as well.

Still, Tyvi had it easier than her brother so she destroyed the ice spears within seconds and closed the distance between her and Evan in a breath.

Her longsword blazed with law energy, but just as it descended, Evan finally turned his gaze at her.

“Ah, right. There were two of you.”

Evan’s Shockwave skill activated and a concussive blast of magic power erupted from his body, sending Tyvi flying backwards. He sighed and shook his head as if he’d been interrupted mid-thought, before stretching his body.

“That’s it for the basics and frostfire.”

Cupping his palms together, Evan drew upon the ambient ice law energy, materialising a sphere of ice.

“Now, it’s time to add destruction…”

By his command, destruction law energy was woven into the mix in his palms, giving the structure of the ice a crimson-gold glow.

For a moment, it held. But almost immediately, cracks spiderwebbed across its surface, and it shattered in a violent burst of energy.

Evan narrowed his eyes at this and silently considered the possibilities before concluding.

“Too much destruction.”

As he said that, he activated Vindiction’s Strike right beside Tyvi who was about to slash at him, blowing her to the side and then sent six serpentine dragons at Tyn with Hydra.

Another sphere of ice took shape in his hand again as he sidestepped to dodge the sword energy slashes from Tyvi, before teleporting to avoid Tyn’s follow-up crushing overhead strike.

For a moment, Evan glanced up at Tyn, curious how the dragonslayer had easily dealt with the Hydra dragons, but then he saw them still chasing Tyn and then returned his focus to the sphere in his hands.

This time, Evan carefully tempered the fusion, adjusting the balance between the two laws. The result was more stable, the crimson-gold ice pulsing faintly for a few seconds.

But then it broke again, crumbling into fragments.

The ground beneath Evan trembled as Tyn slammed his great sword down, sending a wave of Earth Law energy surging toward him.

Evan activated Adamantine Might and punched the ground, sending a wave of ice to block the attack. Tyn’s Earth law energy splintered the ice, but it allowed Evan to notice a crucial flaw he had been overlooking.

Teleporting away, Evan immediately conjured another sphere of ice, adjusting the flow of destruction energy and threading it into the ice to fill up the structural gaps he just noticed.

Like always, the ice turned crimson gold…but it didn’t break apart.

Evan’s lips curved into a faint smile under his mask, but he didn’t pause to admire his work. He spun the sphere in his hand before launching it toward Tyn who sent a mini water tsunami at him.

Just as the crimson-gold ice made contact, it froze the water instantly, shattering it into harmless fragments that scattered across the area.

Tyvi closed in from behind, her longsword tearing through the air with ice and sword law energies coating it as she delivered a sweeping strike aiming for Evan’s neck.

But all Evan did was raise a hand and conjure an Elemental Shield with his crimson-gold ice to intercept the attack. Her blade met the ice, but instead of shattering it, her law energies were frozen, and then destroyed by the fusion Evan created.
