Chapter 973 - 973: Ultimate Seed
“Damn, this thing is a bit hard to control.”
“You just got it; control would be an issue for a while. But you can use your upcoming adventurers to perfect that.”
Jamie responded, referencing the three High-Level worlds Arthur was set to visit later. Arthur nodded in agreement before opening his status board.
“Huh? Since when did I get Tier 6 Time magic?”
Arthur’s eyes widened in surprise as he noticed the two Tier 6 elements listed under his Magic Attributes tab. However, Jamie didn’t seem at all surprised.
“Law Comprehensions are intertwined.
Space, Time, Gravity…these three things are closely related in the fabric of existence, as such, comprehending one can give you boosts in the other.”
Jamie’s explanation reminded Arthur of his law comprehension method—pushing the laws against each other to create a reaction that would force them to rush toward his energy core at an accelerated rate.
“Makes sense…”
He had just rationalized this when Jamie dropped another bombshell.
“Oh my… what an unexpected occurrence. You got an Ultimate Seed.”
“A WHAT?!”
Evan, who had been absorbed in the arcade console a few meters away, shouted, now fully attentive.
Ignoring the blinking ‘GAME OVER’ screen, he moved over to appraise Arthur, searching for any sign of what Jamie had mentioned.
But he was unable to detect with his Full Appraisal, what Jamie needed his Authority to detect.
Arthur turned his consciousness inward again and deep within his Pseudo-Origin Core, he noticed a small, glowing seed at its centre.
At that moment, the System of the Universe displayed a pair of notifications in his field of view.
| You have acquired a Gravity Ultimate Seed. |
|Conditions for Transcendence (8/10) |
Arthur’s surprise deepened as the second message appeared. For reasons unknown to him, there were conditions for his Transcendence that he hadn’t been aware of, and he had already met 8 of them.
The question now was, what were the remaining two?
‘But first, let’s deal with this Ultimate Seed matter. I recall seeing ‘Ultimate Skills’ on Jamie’s status so it might be related.’
Shifting his focus outward, Arthur asked.
“Explanation, please.”
“An Ultimate Seed is the first step toward acquiring an Ultimate Skill. Well, that much was obvious.”
Jamie held up both of his fingers, condensing spatial law energy on them as he continued.
“When someone comprehends a law and gains an Authority, they can enforce their will over that law’s power. You already know that.
But in some situations, there’s a twist.”
He shaped the masses of energy on his fingers into orbs resembling Origin Cores before continuing.
“But there are certain authorities that are Unique—Esoteric Authorities, stronger than the others.”
Arthur knew this as well. His mother held one of these Unique Authorities, as did his maternal uncle and grandfather.
“My mother’s Authority is called Chaotic Destruction Authority…is that it?”
“Yeah. What your mother has is what this Universe’s System terms as ‘Ultimate Skills’.
After confirming Arthur’s words, Jamie continued his explanation to him.
“The Devour Class System makes acquiring Ultimate Skills a lot easier.
To gain an Ultimate Skill, one must first create an Ultimate Seed, which you have done.
This seed has the potential to bloom into an Ultimate Skill, granting you a power that can only be opposed by another Ultimate Skill. In other words, gaining an Ultimate Seed does not guarantee you get the Skill.
There’s always a 1% chance of failure.”
This whole Ultimate Seed concept was new to Arthur, but not to Evan. He knew a lot about Ultimate Skills; the person who had sent him into the past even possessed one!
The Fallen Celestial Conroe was supposed to have been killed by the Infernal Devil King’s Absolute Death Authority. The fact that he had somehow survived, meant someone with an Ultimate Skill had interfered and removed the ‘Absolute Death’ decree.
“Normally, someone with a Higher Ranked Authority can override the decree of someone with a Lower Authority.
An example would be if you, with a Basic Rank Authority were to stop time, someone with a Mid-Rank Authority in Time can override your command and there’s nothing you can do about it.
But with an Ultimate Skill, even your Basic Authority can make a decree that a Mid-Rank Authority holder cannot violate.
Even if they do succeed by some force of nature and plot armour, the energy cost would be astronomical as they would be going against the entire Universe itself.”
The weight of Jamie’s words settled in as Arthur pictured the glowing seed within his Pseudo-Origin Core. He’d never heard about this aspect of Unique Esoteric Authorities from his mother, likely because she hadn’t thought it necessary to explain until he became a Deity.
‘Being able to override a Higher Rank Authority? That’s crazy! It’s a contradiction to the laws of existence!
But these things are also supported by those same laws of existence…so the Cosmos allows a certain level of contradictions to exist or what?’
“And this is all because of the mutation?”
Arthur asked, still trying to comprehend the magnitude of what he’d just gained. Jamie nodded, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
“Yes. The Anti-Divinity didn’t just mutate your origin core; it created something entirely new. Maybe you’d get an ‘Anti-Divine Gravity Authority’ or something.”
“Haha, I’d definitely rename it if I get something like that.”
Arthur recalled the time he had renamed one of his skills in the past, while Evan glanced at him with eyes full of green envy.
“Damn, just having an Ultimate Seed boosts your damage by a fuck ton. I wish I had one too…”
Hearing Evan’s envious words, Jamie turned toward him, clearly confused.
“The heck you talking about?”
“Huh?”
Evan gave Jamie and puzzled look and Arthur, observing the back-and-forth, could already see where this was headed. He sighed and leaned back before asking Jamie.
“He already has an Ultimate Seed, doesn’t he?”
“I DO?!”
Evan exclaimed, his eyes wide with a mix of hope and disbelief. He leaned forward, searching Jamie’s face for confirmation.
And Jamie’s next words didn’t disappoint.
“I thought you already knew?”
“I most definitely did NOT!”
Evan was both shocked and thrilled. He hadn’t realized he had an Ultimate Seed inside him and had thought he would need to gather three similar Unique Series Skills to create one—something he’d always considered a daunting task.
Jamie had mentioned that the process of acquiring Ultimate Skills was somewhat streamlined by the Universe’s System.
The method involved combining Unique Series Skills, rare abilities that were a few levels above regular Unique Skills.
Examples included Alvey’s ‘Child of Light,’ Sigesi’s ‘Child of Ice,’ and Jamie’s own ‘Child of Space’—all part of the ‘Child Series.’
Evan’s ‘Harbinger of Ice’ was from the ‘Harbinger Series,’ while Artemisia’s ‘Queen of Evolution’ and ‘Benevolent Lightning’ were from the ‘Queen Series’ and ‘Benevolent Series,’ respectively.
Other Series existed as well: the ‘Mystic Eye Series,’ ‘Breath Series,’ ‘Incarnation Series,’ ‘Blessing Series,’ ‘Herald Series,’ ‘Genesis Series,’ and more.
Each of these Series Skills contained a fragment of an Ultimate Seed, and by combining three of them, there was a chance to birth an Ultimate Seed. However, this was easier said than done, as the chances of success decreased with each skill from a different Series or Type.
For example, if Alvey were to gain both the ‘Herald of Light’ and ‘Harbinger of Light’ skills, his chances of birthing an Ultimate Seed would be 99% since both skills were from the ‘Light’ type.
But if he acquired ‘Harbinger of Fire’ instead, the chances would drop to 66%, since it came from a different Series and a different Type.
Evan had four Series Skills: his ‘Mystic Eyes of Mimicry,’ ‘Harbinger of Ice,’ and ‘Mesarthim: Prismatic Inferno’, and his recently acquired ‘Disaster Genesis.’
But they were from different Series and Types, so the likelihood of successfully creating an Ultimate Seed—let alone awakening it into a Skill—was slim.
‘What Series is Mesarthim again? Zodiac Series, wasn’t it? My Mesarthim is the Aries of the Zodiac…’
As he pondered this, Jamie posed a question to him.
“You have flame abilities, right?”
“Yeah… Are you saying my ‘Mesarthim’ has the Ultimate Seed in it???”
Evan asked, leaning in even closer. Jamie gently pushed him back to a comfortable distance before explaining how Evan’s Mesarthim Skill contained hints of an Ultimate Seed within it.
“Your flames span the entire spectrum of the rainbow—seven distinct colours: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet.
Each ‘colour’ of your flames, am I right in assuming, holds a different ability?”
Evan nodded, confirming Jamie’s assumption, which strengthened Jamie’s theory about Mesarthim.
“From my perspective, if I were to break your Mesarthim skill down into its components, I’d essentially get seven distinct Flame Attributed Unique Series Skills.”
“…”
Evan’s jaw hit the floor, and Arthur had to help him lift it back up and snap it into place. That’s how stunned Evan was by Jamie’s words.
One Unique Series Skill was already powerful enough, and now Jamie was telling him that Mesarthim contained seven within it.
Thinking about it, it kind of made sense.
RED could be a Skill with Pure Destructive power. ORANGE could be a Support type Skill. YELLOW could be a Purification Skill. GREEN could be a Healing Skill. Weaker than Eliza’s but still quite strong.
BLUE…was Mesarthim’s pre-set Bounded Field.
Unique Series Skills had been said to possess pre-set Bounded Fields, and that was what Mesarthim’s BLUE was.
As for INDIGO, Evan’s gaze moved to the Disaster Genesis skill he had taken from Aramis’ Hero, and he thought about Mesarthim’s INDIGO: Ember Genesis.
INDIGO’s power was Flame Construct Creation and Manipulation. Things like his Frostborne Colossus and Tempest Avatar, except stronger.
Lastly, VIOLET…was unknown. It was never revealed in the game so Evan had no idea what power it possessed.
But despite understanding how Mesarthim could seem like a combination of Seven Skills, there was still an issue.
“Its power isn’t to that level…”
Indeed, Mesarthim felt as powerful as a Unique Series Skill, but it didn’t possess the strength expected from something that supposedly contained seven Unique Series Skills.
“Now, that’s something even I don’t understand.”
Jamie admitted, equally puzzled and Evan sank into thought, placing a hand on his chin, as he tried to piece things together.
It didn’t take long for him to remember the Mesarthim Skill’s Description.
|Restrictions:
Due to the true nature of the power that is ‘Mesarthim’, certain abilities of this skill are sealed and would only be unlocked either when; The user’s Attunements to Flames increase, their proficiency with the base abilities of the skill increases, or the user gains a deeper understanding of ‘Flames’ and ‘Mesarthim’ itself. |
‘This is the most likely reason why…’
While Evan was arriving at that conclusion, Jamie continued to explain how he saw Mesarthim from the perspective of an Ultimate Skill wielder.
“It’s as if the seven Skills were being fused to form an Ultimate Seed, but someone hit the pause button when it was at 99.99% formation.
Maybe that’s why you didn’t realise it was technically one.”
Evan’s eyes widened slightly as he processed Jamie’s words. Something about them didn’t quite add up.
“But don’t Ultimate Seeds usually form from three Unique Series Skills?”
“They do.”
“And you said all seven are being fused into one Ultimate Seed?”
“Indeed.”
A brief silence filled the air, and at that moment, Evan realized why the formation of Mesarthim’s Ultimate Seed had been ‘paused.’
“I’m not the most knowledgeable on the matter, but it sounds like Mesarthim’s Ultimate Seed would be far more powerful than usual since it’s essentially a two-in-one, and then some.
And I’m pretty sure my body can’t handle the power of two Ultimate Seeds at once—let alone an additional Unique Series…”
