Chapter 984 - 984: Six Skill Strike
The torrent struck Evan with an impact that sent his body hurtling backwards, his sword slipping from his grasp and clattering to the ground far below.
That torrent was just the first. Five more surged into the air behind it, curving like serpents before crashing down toward the falling Evan.
Mid-air, the Symbol in Evan’s Mystic Eyes glowed and immediately, the torrents froze solid, suspended mid-air like crystalline sculptures.
A moment later, they shattered into countless fragments, glittering like stars as Evan flipped through the air and landed on his feet.
But just as he raised his head, a new barrage came into view: a dozen massive spears and jagged blocks of ice hurtling toward him.
“Orange: Self-Immolation.”
His body ignited with vibrant orange flames, turning him into a human torch. Then, with a burst of speed, Evan kicked off the ground, dashing toward the incoming onslaught.
Although Evan did not will it, the Unforged Vale, which had fallen some distance away, suddenly shot out of the ground of its own accord. Spinning through the air like a guided missile, it flew straight into Evan’s empty hand.
Not putting too much thought into it in the heat of the moment, Evan gripped the blade tightly and seamlessly infused it with his magic power as he advanced.
The first icy spear came crashing toward him, but with a swift horizontal slash, he cleaved it in two, the fragments vaporizing upon contact with his flames.
The second followed, and Evan spun to meet it, his blade cutting through it like butter. The shards flew past him harmlessly as he continued forward.
A jagged block of ice loomed overhead, forcing him to duck at the last second before he retaliated with a sharp upward slash, shattering the block into a spray of fiery fragments.
A massive spear shot toward his chest, but Evan easily pivoted mid-step and delivered a powerful kick, his flames reinforcing the strike.
The spear shattered into countless shards, which he then manipulated with Harbinger of Ice, sending the deadly projectiles hurtling back toward their origin.
Yet, instead of striking their target, the shards met a massive pillar of ice descending from above the clouds.
Behind it, Evan’s opponent swung his hand downward, the pillar crashing like a colossal nail meant to pin Evan to the ground.
Faced with this, Evan kicked off the ground and leapt into the air, activating one of his favourite techniques.
‘Mesarthim: Red.’
“Hell Unleashed!”
Spinning mid-air, Evan unleashed a wide slash of flames. The searing arc collided with the falling pillar, splitting it cleanly down the centre and vaporizing half of it with the sheer intensity of heat and destructive energy.
From the explosion of steam burst his opponent, sword thrust downward, concentrated magic power and law energy coalescing at its tip.
Evan met the attack head-on, thrusting the Unforged with his aura focused at its point.
The collision of blade tips created an explosive shockwave, rivalling the devastation of Evan’s earlier Grand Fireball.
The two fighters emerged from the smoke and steam, clashing mid-air as their relentless battle carved holes through the clouds. Each exchange sent rippling booms through the atmosphere, their movements leaving streaks of light and energy in their wake.
Seeking an edge, the man conjured dozens of icicles and launched them at Evan. In response, Evan activated Chain Lightning, hurling a crackling orb at the first icicle and ignoring it as the lightning leapt from one shard to the next.
In mere seconds, the entire barrage was destroyed, and the final arc of lightning surged toward the man.
Frowning, the man dodged the lightning, before coating his body in a layer of ice and bursting away with a sudden surge of speed.
At the sight of this, Evan snapped his fingers and a dozen serpentine dragons composed of flames and lightning manifested from the space behind him.
Their fiery and electric roars echoed through the battlefield as they coiled and shot forward, pursuing the man as he darted through the air in an effort to evade them.
Even though he avoided them, they homed in on him, twisting and turning through the air just as he did.
The man flew deeper into the island, making sharp turns around hills and small mountains, luring the Hydras into colliding with the terrain.
But just as the fourth Hydra smashed into a mountainside, exploding in a shower of flames and lightning, Evan suddenly materialized in front of him, his blade already descending.
The man instinctively raised his sword to block, but Evan’s Adamantine Might-infused strike was far too powerful. The sheer force sent him crashing into the mountain he had just evaded.
He blasted straight through it, the jagged rock crumbling as his body tore out the other side.
Tumbling across the ground, he quickly regained his footing, leaping into the air just as another Hydra lunged and clamped its jaws onto the spot where he had stood moments earlier.
Before he could regain his composure, Evan teleported again, appearing behind him with another attack and the man barely managed to activate a defensive skill, parrying the blow with a burst of ice law energy that encased his blade.
Their clash continued high in the air, the sound of colliding steel echoing like thunder across the island. Each exchange sent shockwaves rippling outward, with Evan pressing his advantage at every turn.
Eventually, Evan activated Electroflame, a crimson rose of flames blooming on his opponent’s forehead.
Before the man could do anything about the flames suddenly spawning on his forehead, Evan closed in for a powerful strike, drawing the man’s focus, only to let go of the sword.
“?!”
**BAMM!!!
Evan’s right fist collided with the man’s forehead, and naturally, Fracture was activated.
The devastating punch cracked the man’s skull, blood spurting in a crimson arc as the impact sent him hurtling backwards.
Before he could recover, the remaining Hydras converged, their fiery and electric maws slamming into him from all sides in a devastating explosion of energy.
Evan instantly activated his dragon transformation, spreading his wings wide as his horns emerged at the top of his head.
Channelling more magic power and Destructive Law Energy into his sword, he violently flapped his wings and shot forward like a meteor, spinning mid-flight to Unleash Hell.
The wide slash of flames tore through the air faster than the man could react. He conjured a shield of ice, frantically summoning torrents of water for defence, but Evan’s strike arrived faster.
The flames crashed into him, obliterating his defences and sending him hurtling across the island. The sheer force blasted him through a small range of hills, each one crumbling as his body tore through their stone faces.
Before he could recover, Evan materialized in front of him, his right fist pulled back and radiating a lethal glow.
In that split second, Evan activated a devastating combination of skills.
Electroflame + Fracture + Adamantine Might + Pierce Guard + Permeating Wave + Time Bomb.
A blazing rose of fire blossomed across the man’s chest, and in the same second, Evan’s lightning-infused fist, preceded by a golden orb of roughly condensed time law energy, slammed into the man’s chest with the force of a comet crashing into the earth.
The impact unleashed an explosion so violent it rivalled a nuclear blast, shockwaves rippling outward and tearing through the landscape. The ground beneath them split apart, creating a massive crater hundreds of meters deep.
As the dust and smoke cleared, Evan stood in the centre of the devastation, his fist still raised.
The man lay before him, his chest caved in, his heart crushed beyond recognition. Blood gurgled from his lips as his wide eyes stared blankly, life fading from them as he took his final, shuddering breath.
As the familiar Level Up notifications filled his vision, Evan exhaled deeply, shaking the tension from his shoulders before extending his bloodied fist and engulfing it with ice.
He clenched it tight, shattering the ice into crystalline shards that carried the blood away. Then, he reached into his inventory and pulled out a juice pack potion.
Conjuring a small Void Step beneath his jaw, he rested the juice pack on it, sipping as he walked away from the scene of destruction.
Activating Farsight, Evan’s eyes zoomed into the distance, locking onto the figures of soldiers scrambling far away.
His battle had ended quickly—too quickly for reinforcements to arrive.
The earlier Grand Fireball and Water Torrent collision had resulted in shockwaves that capsized several ships, leaving the soldiers preoccupied with saving their comrades from drowning rather than aiding their now-fallen commander.
Looking at them from afar, Evan sighed and muttered under his breath.
“No hard feelings, guys. We just happen to be on opposing sides of this madness called war.”
With that, he activated his newest Unique Skill: Disaster Genesis.
Disasters could come in many shapes and forms, based on land, sea or air. For this occasion, Evan chose a combination of land-based and sea-based disasters.
The earth beneath the soldiers on land groaned ominously before splitting apart in a series of violent tremors.
Fissures erupted across the island, swallowing entire regiments in seconds. Volcanic geysers spewed molten rock, igniting fires that spread like a ravenous beast.
At the same time, towering waves rose from the ocean, crashing into the ships and pulling them under with merciless force. The screams of men drowned beneath the roar of collapsing earth and surging water.
Soldiers scrambled to fight back. Among them, over a dozen level 700s—though weaker than the commander Evan just killed—banded together, trying to counteract the disasters with their magic and skills.
Their combined magic surged, barriers forming and counter spells flying as they fought desperately to stabilize their surroundings, but Evan only gave a faint humourless chuckle.
He raised his hand, activating Gravitational Maelstrom. A vortex of crushing gravity spiralled into existence, yanking the level 700s from their positions and dragging them together into a singular mass.
Their bodies strained against the force, armour buckling, and blood trickling from their noses and ears as the immense pressure bore down on them.
Though the maelstrom didn’t kill them outright—Evan wasn’t yet at the level to annihilate so many high-level opponents in one go—it rendered them helpless, pinned together like lambs for slaughter.
And Evan was the butcher.
“Frost Thunder Guardian. Oh, thanks for the name ideas.”
The immense manifestation of the combined skills and technique towered over the battlefield, its frost-and-thunder-forged body crackling with destruction law energy.
The guardian’s frozen lightning sword gleamed brilliantly under the sun, casting a chilling glow over the carnage below.
“Finish it.”
Evan commanded simply.
The guardian obeyed, raising its sword high before plunging it downward into the tangled mass of soldiers.
The blade pierced through them like a lightning rod, and an explosion of crimson-gold lightning erupted from the impact point.
The blast sent shockwaves across the island, amplifying the ongoing disasters. Tornadoes formed in the wake of the energy surge, volcanic eruptions intensified, and tidal waves grew ever more ferocious.
The cries of the soldiers were swallowed by the cacophony of destruction.
Evan watched the devastation unfold before him, calmly deactivating his dragon transformation. The silence that followed was deafening, broken only by the distant roar of the collapsing landscape.
While staring at this carnage, Evan placed his hand on his chest.
His heartbeats were calm, neither faster nor slower than usual. He could feel his dragon heart unhurriedly pumping more energy through his destructive energy circuit.
“What did I expect?”
The words slipped from his lips, quiet and devoid of emotion.
“I’m pretty sure I did much worse in my previous incarnation. It’s the only way I can explain the fact that despite causing this much carnage…”
His eyes lifted to the sky, his tone unchanging.
“…I don’t feel a goddamn thing.”
He took another sip from his juice pack, the faint slurp the only sound in the overwhelming silence left behind.
