Reincarnated Hero System

Chapter 986 - 986: Looping Tactics

Arthur and Evan skilfully coordinated the demon forces, countering enemy strategies one after the other.

They deployed Infernal Devils, dragons, and the 9th Legion to trap angels, used elven assassins to ambush brigades, and directed the Drakon Guard to defend a critical chokepoint.

Spotting a divine regiment moving toward a village, Arthur set a trap with fire runes and the 3rd Legion.

Meanwhile, dragons disrupted enemy rear lines, and dark elves conducted raids with Transcendent-killing deadly poison-tipped arrows. The battlefield shifted under their command, showcasing their tactical brilliance and earning respect from the demon generals.

At one point, Evan’s eyes caught a squadron of enemy cavalry attempting to flank the demon army from the east.

“Arthur, we’ve got a problem on the eastern flank. If that cavalry breaks through, they’ll reach our command centre.”

“Divert the 5th Legion’s 3rd Brigade from their current position. Have them take the long way around and hit the cavalry from behind. We’ll trap them between our forces and crush them before they reac-!”

Arthur’s response was abruptly cut short as his gaze locked onto the war magic projection. Crimson markers began to materialize across the map, their appearance accompanied by tiny wing motifs.

The room’s atmosphere turned frigid. Every demon general fell silent, their eyes fixed on the cluster of markers on the projection.

“Transcendent Angels have appeared.”

Arthur declared, his tone low but tinged with anticipation.

The demon generals exchanged uneasy glances.

Toverus was an angel-dominated world, and for this to be the case, the angels had to be its strongest forces.

For most generals present, their roles were to conserve strength for battles against Level 900+ angels, and now, that moment had arrived.

One general turned to Arthur, only to feel a chill run down his spine at the sight he saw.

Arthur’s lips curved into a wicked grin, his eyes gleaming with a predatory light. His voice, filled with an unsettling mix of excitement and desire, broke the tense silence.

“Time to hunt.”

The room remained silent, the demon generals staring at him in disbelief.

The casual way Arthur spoke of hunting Transcendents—the strongest mortals around—was nothing short of terrifying.

Then again, he was the only Sovereign in the universe capable of making such a statement without a shred of fear.

Arthur had been awaiting the arrival of the Transcendents, knowing they possessed the ‘Book of Truth’ Replica—the true reason he had come to Toverus.

Now that they had revealed themselves, he stepped back from the command table and turned to Evan, who returned his gaze with a nod.

“I’ll leave the rest to you, Evan. Keep them busy.”

His tone carried a confident, almost playful edge, as if this was merely another game to him. Evan, unfazed, returned a calm nod.

“I’ve got this. Go have your fun.”

With no further words, Arthur’s form dissolved into nothingness as he teleported straight to the battlefield, where the Transcendent Angels had appeared.

The demon generals scrambled out as well, taking the teleportation waypoints hidden underground at numerous points on the battlefields.

‘Book of Truth, huh? I remember Roselia mentioning something about it when we found Leviah. Is it the same one that Ginaroad tried to use against them to find out their True Names?’

Such a thought crossed Evan’s mind as he glanced at the demon generals heading to the same battlefront Arthur had gone to.

Knowing full well that whatever awaited those angels would be nothing short of a slaughter, Evan turned his focus back to the war magic projection.

He refocused the display, zooming in on an angelic battalion that had regrouped near a ruined fortress on the easter front and was reorganizing, preparing to launch a counterattack to reclaim lost ground.

“All units, prepare for a coordinated strike on the enemy battalion near the eastern fortress.

Engage with the Horns Division from the left flank and the 7th Dark Elf Corps should move in from the right.

Archers, provide covering fire. Mage Units, prepare to launch a volley of firestorms on my mark.”

His orders were quickly relayed and, on the battlefield, the demon units moved like a well-oiled machine, each regiment falling into position at breakneck speed.

The Horns Division, a fearsome cavalry unit composed of heavily armoured demons riding on nightmare steeds, charged at the enemy from the left.

Their lances gleamed with demonic energy, piercing through the angelic ranks with force and at the same time, the dark elf corps attacked from the right, their blades slicing through the air with lethal speed and accuracy.

Archers positioned themselves on a nearby ridge and rained down a barrage of poisoned arrows, each one aimed to disable rather than kill, ensuring that the angels would be left vulnerable to the ensuing onslaught.

As the angels struggled to reorganize, the Mage Units, stationed in the rear, began chanting in unison. Their hands glowed as Four and Five-ringed magic circles manifested, ready to unleash a wave of destruction.

“Now.”

Evan’s calm voice rang out in the ears of the commanding Lieutenant Colonels and they relayed the orders to their men who released the magic.

A series of firestorms erupted across the battlefield, with towers of blackened flames roaring into existence and consuming everything in their path.

The angelic battalion was engulfed in a maelstrom of fire and their cries of pain and desperation echoed across the landscape.

Evan watched the devastation unfold on the projection, and from the visible half of his face, his expression remained impassive.

‘Hmm…having the knowledge and being able to apply it are indeed two different things. Good thing I have this chance to practice.’

He’d already copied the War Magic Circle so he could use this back on Aidos, especially during the plan for Tarse.

As for how Evan had a level of tactical acumen that silenced the demon generals, it was naturally Arlan Maddox’s memories.

Where else could Evan get such deep knowledge of real-world battle strategy from? Definitely not from the game.

Watching as the angels’ forces were obliterated, their battalion reduced to ashes and ruins in moments, Evan’s gaze shifted to another part of the battlefield.

‘War tactics are universal. The Demons still rely on the Wildcard Protocol even after 10,000 years, so who’s to say they wouldn’t use these same tactics too?

And in fact, they did.’

Evan flipped through Arlan’s memories of the Aidos-Gozon war, recognizing some of the strategies he and Arthur were deploying here being used by the Gozonians.

‘So, I’m the one who gave them those tactics, which they then used against Aidos? That’s wild.’

Time manipulation was a very complex subject, and with each passing day, Evan felt it more strongly.

These war tactics now existed in an endless loop.

Evan used them, the demons adopted them, they were used on Aidos, Arlan Maddox witnessed them, Evan inherited Arlan’s memories, travelled back in time, and used them again with the demons, who proceeded to adopt them.

‘Time loops are messed up.’

For a moment, his mind went back to the Summit where he nearly met his father from Earth V, ‘Supreme Human King’ Vincent.

‘What would have happened if I didn’t run?’

Even as he had these idle thoughts, Evan’s eyes remained on the battlefield projection, constantly scanning the battlefield map for any sign of an opportunity or threat.

Around him, demon generals barked orders to their subordinates, strategists analysed enemy movements, and scouts sent in reports of the ongoing skirmishes.

“Deploy the Dark Dragonflight to Sector 14.”

Evan ordered, his voice cutting through the murmurs of the generals.

“They’ll provide air support for the 9th Legion as they push through the angelic forces trying to reclaim the western ridge.

Have the 10th Legion prepare for a flanking manoeuvre from the north. Their numbers should be enough to overwhelm the divine humans stationed there.”

One of the demon generals, an imposing figure with a scarred face and a mane of brown hair, raised an eyebrow.

“The Dark Dragonflight? But their fire breath could—”

“—be exactly what we need to break their formation.”

Evan interrupted without taking his eyes off the projection, his tone firm.

“The angels there are relying on tight formations to maintain their defensive lines. A few well-placed bursts of dragon fire will scatter them, creating an opening for the 9th Legion to exploit.”

The general hesitated for a moment as he looked at the battlefield projection to study it. A few moments later, he nodded in agreement as he’d come to the same conclusion.

The logic was sound, and the execution was flawless. He couldn’t help but marvel at how easily Evan handled the situation, making decisions that most commanders would agonize over.

Another general, a dark elf with keen eyes, leaned in, pointing to a different area on the projection.

“What about the north-eastern front? The angelic forces there are using the same tactic as earlier—Divinity Barriers.

We’ve tried breaking through, but the barriers regenerate faster than we can destroy them.”

Evan’s gaze shifted to the eastern front, his mind already calculating the best approach.

“Another hotspot, huh? Blow it up.”

He calmly ordered and moved on to another portion of the battlefield. As the Gozonians were aiming to conquer Toverus, they couldn’t afford to destroy too many of these hotspots since they took time to reform, however, from Evan’s POV, that was the best way to deal with these barriers.

The consequences were for the Gozonians to deal with.

Hearing him, the dark elf general nodded and relayed his orders to have some of their covert units team up with mimic demons to infiltrate and blow the place up.

One of the more experienced generals, a hulking demon with a reputation for brute force, leaned over the table, his voice gruff.

“The divine humans are converging on our forces near the central stronghold. They’re trying to cut off our supply lines. If they succeed, we’ll lose our foothold in that sector.”

Evan’s eyes flickered to the central stronghold, where the enemy’s forces were indeed massing for a decisive strike.

“You’re the one who controls the Demon Beast legion, right? Send some of your beasts there and they’ll hold the line until the real reinforcements can come.

In the meantime, have the dark elves set up ambushes along the supply route; about four battalions. Keep some dragons above the clouds, ready to rain down hell on them.

If the divine humans try to advance, they’ll be walking right into a trap.”
