Chapter 1834: Entering The Stone Hero’s Inheritance Trial

Once Aquarina finished her emotional conversation with Svana, opening Svana’s eyes, Aquarina, Silvia, and Justicio walked toward the Inheritance entrance, leaving Nepheline and Shade behind. While Svana led them there, Aquarina saw her parents waving at her from afar.

“Alright, soooo… What do we do inside that place?” Silvia asked curiously, with a tinge of nervousness. “Umm, will you guide us, chief?”

“No, I cannot enter. I’m sorry, Silvia, but that’s not something I can do,” Svana said, her eyes full of meaning. “As many of you know, I’ve already completed the trial, which is why I’m so strong. Since I succeeded, only your mother, Aquarina, has passed it. That’s why Nepheline is so powerful, the strongest Stone Hero since the first.”

“Wait, only you and my mom?!” Aquarina asked in disbelief. “But hasn’t this challenge been up for thousands of years?!”

“Yes, but that’s about to change, right?” Svana smiled, patting Aquarina’s shoulders. “Your mother did it alone, but you’ve got two friends, so it should be easier, I believe!”

“Ehhh, I hope so! Honestly, I’m still tired from that battle against a literal evil god,” Aquarina sighed, her shoulders drooping.

“Hahaha! Oh yeah, that was certainly not what I imagined would happen before the trial! Compared to that, this trial might feel like child’s play, don’t you think?” Svana asked.

Her carefree smile faded as she grew serious, looking at Aquarina and her friends with meaningful eyes.

“However, never lower your guard. You can fail and leave the trial alive, but it’s possible to die inside if you’re not careful enough. All three of you must watch each other’s backs, understand? I chose you because you’ve forged a strong bond,” Svana said, addressing the three candidates. “And you have your Spirits and Familiars, but the same applies to them. Never lower your guard, trust each other, watch each other’s backs, follow the instructions, and ponder their true meaning!”

“Alright,” Aquarina nodded. “I understand.”

“Got it!” Silvia said. “Khepri, are you ready?! I bet it’s going to be super fun!”

“Silvia, I think you’re taking this too lightly…” Khepri sighed.

“I guess she is, but that’s how she always is,” Justicio shrugged. “I’ve trained a lot lately, so I’m ready. Though part of me is scared, another is excited to see what challenges await, right?”

“Too right!” Aquarina nodded. “Alright, Svana, what’s next?”

“…”

Svana touched the door with her hand. Ripples of golden light spread through it, activating thousands of ancient runes. Divine and spiritual power surged from the gates, which slowly opened, revealing a long, dark corridor. The young warriors couldn’t see its end due to its length and darkness.

“So this is it? Do we just—”

“THOSE WHO BELIEVE THEMSELVES WORTHY, ENTER THE GATE AND STEP INTO THE TRIAL.”

Before Aquarina could finish, a loud voice reverberated from the temple, ringing in her ears and those of her friends. It was imposing and powerful.

It felt like a phantasmal voice, so forceful that the ground shook and cracked slightly…

“W-Who was that?!” Silvia asked.

“That was the Will of the First Hero of Stone,” Svana explained. “He left a Fragment of his Soul in the Inheritance as its eternal guardian and regulator. Though the original hero died long ago, this piece of him remains.”

“Huh… It’s like that other Inheritance Luck went through, though that one was much smaller and simpler,” Aquarina said.

“Which inheritance?” Svana asked.

“It was the Inheritance of the previous Hero of Beasts, which Luck, the current Hero of Beasts, went through to inherit part of her powers and weapons,” Aquarina said. “It was… much simpler.”

“I see…” Svana nodded. “Interesting. Very well, this is where you step in and do what the voice tells you. Go on.”

“Wait, no tips or anything?” Justicio asked.

“The trial differs for each person or group,” Svana said. “So I can’t tell you what it’s about, as it might not be what you’ll face.”

“Oh…” Aquarina muttered. “Oh well! Let’s go then!”

“Fine… here goes nothing,” Justicio said, stepping forward.

“Let’s do it!” Silvia cheered.

As the trio entered the Inheritance, the gate closed behind them. Svana, Nepheline, and Shade watched with calm yet worried expressions.

“I know our daughter has progressed a lot, as have her friends, but I can’t help feeling worried,” Nepheline sighed.

“Me too, but we can’t do much,” Shade said. “Let’s return home. Leaving Esmeralda with our spirits for too long isn’t wise. She’ll quickly notice we’re gone.”

“Right,” Nepheline nodded. “Let’s go.”

Trusting their daughter, Aquarina’s parents returned home, while Svana stayed, watching the gates. It was her duty to wait until they returned or report if the worst happened…

“…They’ve got another kid, so I suppose they couldn’t stay, huh?” Svana said, realizing she was alone.

She sat down to meditate, feeling the pulsating energies from the Inheritance…

“You can do this, kids! Nobody has been more ready for this trial than you three…!”

She smiled with closed eyes, hoping for the best.

Meanwhile, inside the Inheritance, Aquarina, Silvia, and Justicio walked through the corridor in silence. The walls slowly began to glow as small torches appeared one after another. They hadn’t been there before.

“Alright, so this is it then,” Silvia said.

“Hmm…” Justicio nodded.

“When does this corridor end?” Aquarina asked, looking around. “Oh? Look!”

The group ran forward, reaching a large open area. Inside, they found several statues, most depicting strong, muscular warriors, male and female.

At the center stood a giant with enormous, muscular arms, holding a massive golden and brown crystal that glowed faintly.

“What is this place?” Justicio asked.

“Weird…” Silvia said.

“…” Aquarina remained silent until the voice spoke again.

“I WELCOME YOU TO THE INHERITANCE TRIAL, YOUNG WARRIORS.”

“YOU MUST PASS THREE TRIALS TO REACH THE END, WHERE YOU WILL FACE A FINAL CHALLENGE.”

“YOUR FIRST TRIAL IS CALLED: THE TRIAL OF ENDURANCE.”

“EACH STATUE IN THIS ROOM BEARS A WEIGHT. THIS WEIGHT WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO YOUR BODY WHEN YOU DESTROY THEM. TO PASS THE TRIAL, YOU MUST DESTROY EVERY STATUE IN THE ROOM AND THEN REACH THE EXIT.”
