Chapter 1922: Enemies Sip Tea Together
Chapter 1922: Enemies Sip Tea Together
——
“Wait, Aquarina!” I stopped her, stepping between her and Armageddon. “Don’t fight her…! She’s… my familiar. I know she did terrible things, but I cannot let you attack her. Every one of my Familiars is my family.”
“…! But Sylphy…!” Aquarina rolled her eyes.
“Please believe me… and stop being so stubborn. I know that deep down you agree with what she said!” I insisted. “Don’t you?”
“I…” Aquarina hesitated, sighing heavily. Her aura flickered and retracted slightly, though she remained tense and on edge. “I know… I just feel so annoyed. This damn bug… she almost killed us all. If I hadn’t called for you, everything would have gone to hell…”
“I know…” I nodded. “I don’t intend to forgive her for that, but at the same time, we won. I killed her and even ate her soul… wasn’t that enough punishment for now?”
“Heh, you’re too nice with her,” Armageddon laughed.
“Shut up,” I ordered. Armageddon fell silent instantly, compelled by a direct command from her Master that she could not refuse. “And be nicer from now on. That’s another order. A permanent one.”
“Grrr…!” Armageddon groaned. “I-I understand… master… haaa… how annoying.”
“Okay, it’s all settled now,” I said with a nod. “Come on, let’s sit down and talk with her, Aquarina. Let’s try to understand her for once, okay?”
“You’re too nice for this world, Sylphy,” Aquarina replied. “Good thing you have me here, so others don’t take advantage of your kindness… but yeah, let’s try to be civil for once. Let’s be nice to this piece of work…”
We approached Armageddon and accepted her offer of tea. We sat around the small table as fire spirits brought platters of food. Cookies, tea, everything made from ingredients she had created in this divine realm, showcasing her remarkable skill as a goddess of creation.
“Wow, this isn’t bad…” Aquarina admitted, sipping the tea and biting into one of the red cookies. “They’re a little spicy but sweet. It’s weird.”
“Hmm, they taste like a mix of cinnamon and ginger,” I said. “And the tea is refreshing yet hot… Woah, what are these cakes? They have this red-hot cream inside… hmm, tastes like some kind of fruit jam? I taste something similar to orange but also a bit of chili. Haha.”
“It’s the food I like the most,” Armageddon explained. “We of the Fire Spirit Tribe enjoy spicy and hot flavors. Even in sweets and tea, we love to add it. Everything we cultivate carries these qualities.”
“I see. I had no idea you had a sense of belonging anywhere, considering how you sacrificed all your ant children for power back then,” Aquarina remarked, glaring at Armageddon with narrowed eyes.
“Oh well, those were lowly monsters I never considered my family,” Armageddon replied coldly. “I wouldn’t hesitate to kill them again either. These Spirits have more value to me, though. They are spirits like me, so I wouldn’t sacrifice them so hastily for power. But they are ready at any moment to give up their lives for me. The ants were the same. So what’s wrong with taking their lives when they were willing to offer them? I was simply granting their wish.”
“I don’t think that’s how it worked! A lot of them didn’t seem like they really wanted to die!” Aquarina shot back angrily. “And well… my dad did save Vulcanus at least. He became one of my father’s Undead Familiars.”
“Oh well, isn’t that nice?” Armageddon laughed. “Though I no longer care about Vulcanus, I am happy for him if he truly became such a being. Now he’s living happily serving one of the heroes. Everybody won, right?”
“No he didn’t! All of your children fought and died for you!” Aquarina retorted. “And…”
“Aquarina, that’s enough,” I interrupted gently. “Don’t argue with her. It’s pointless. It’s not just a matter of morality; her entire mindset is different from ours. It’s just… how she is.”
“Everyone in the world is different, is that not right?” Armageddon smiled as she sipped her tea. “Don’t worry, Sylph is too precious of a master for me to ever abandon or betray her. There’s nothing I could ever gain from doing so.”
“And if you had something to gain, you wouldn’t hesitate, right?” Aquarina pressed, cornering her with the question.
“Hypotheticals are pointless and meaningless,” Armageddon answered smoothly. “What matters is the present. At first I didn’t really want to live, much less as a slave, but Sylph helped me greatly and proved herself a comrade rather than an enslaver. We work and fight for the same goal. Is that not enough for you, Aquarina? What else would you want? You’re not the one who decides things here. It’s Sylph.”
“Damn it…” Aquarina sighed. “Okay, I’m not going to argue with this thing anymore… But I’m going to watch her closely, okay, Sylphy? I am not going to allow this thing to order you around or tell you what to do or anything else.”
“Aquarina, she’s not telling me to do anything…” I sighed. “But okay, it’s fine… For now I would like her to just stay like this. Let’s not tell everyone about her. That’s what I mean.”
“I mean yeah, let’s not even mention her. I’ll pretend I never saw her,” Aquarina sighed. “I mean, you killed that thing and now she’s here. I guess it’s the same as with other enemies that have turned into your Spirits… Let’s just pretend she’s another… spirit… I guess…”
“Yeah,” I nodded. “Let’s just do that instead of fighting, okay?” I took her hand.
“Okay, I just worry about you because you’re too nice and sometimes a little too reckless in the worst ways possible…” Aquarina sighed, looking at me. “Sorry if I got too upset and screamed too loudly… I didn’t scare you or anything? It wasn’t my intention…”
“No, no, it’s okay,” I said, smiling and caressing her face. “You don’t scare me, Aquarina. I love you. I understand how you are, and that’s just your personality. You were upset because you love me and were worried. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“See? You’re too nice,” Aquarina sighed, kissing my forehead.
“…Eugh,” Armageddon made an annoyed, disgusted sound as she watched us grow closer. “Your disgusting love, an emotion that I simply cannot relate to, is eerily similar to the same love that yellow bug had with the blue fish.”
“What? Who?” I asked, confused. “Wait a second, who are you calling disgusting?! I told you to be nice!”
“Yeah, be nice you fucking bitch piece of shit son of a bitch I’m going to rip your head apart!” Aquarina erupted in fury after hearing that, ready to leap across the table and attack.
“C-Calm down!” I quickly pulled her back.
“Oh, I apologize. Was what I said rude in any way or capacity? It was the truth, however,” the evil goddess replied calmly. “I simply believe that love and all of those emotions are disgusting. That is all. It’s simply how my mind works. I just… cannot fathom relating to such a strange and bizarre form of emotion.”
“I guess that’s why you don’t care about your children at all!” Aquarina snapped angrily. “Do you even love the new ones you made?”
“I wouldn’t go as far as ’loving’ them, but I do care about them,” Armageddon answered. “They’re useful and valuable.”
Wow, she’s as cruel as ever.
