Chapter 145: Shocking Advancement Tasks
Chapter 145: Shocking Advancement Tasks
Selene gestured around them at the island itself. “It’s most likely just the sanctuary system itself imposing natural laws and limitations. As for the underlying reason why such restrictions exist, I honestly don’t know. We can only speculate based on limited information, like I mentioned earlier.”
Yara sat in contemplative silence, processing this fundamental revelation about her world and people.
Moon, meanwhile, continued staring at his class advancement options, but his mind had already been made up from the moment he’d seen the choices.
’Although superficially there doesn’t appear to be any obvious advantage, my class is still objectively the best option no matter which angle I look at it from,’ Moon thought with absolute conviction.
While all the other class options sounded genuinely impressive and powerful—Dark Assassin promised stealth and lethality, Grand Elemental Sorcerer offered mastery over multiple elements with more power, they were all fundamentally limiting in nature by their very definitions.
Each traditional class locked you into a specific progression path with predetermined abilities and growth patterns.
Meanwhile, his Classless designation imposed no such restrictions. It offered infinite flexibility, the ability to copy and test other classes temporarily, and progression limited only by his own creativity and determination rather than system-imposed boundaries.
There was no real competition.
Moon mentally selected his choice.
[You have chosen Classless as your First Class Advancement.]
The system interface seemed to pause momentarily, as if processing something far more complex than a standard class selection. Then, a new text appeared.
[Classless—an existence beyond classification, an irregular existence outside the system.
The path of one without class is a path walked in solitude, carved not by fate’s design but by will alone. Where others follow roads laid before them, you forge your own way through the unknown.
To advance and prove yourself worthy of bearing this burden, to demonstrate you possess the necessary qualifications to truly become Classless, you must fulfill the trials set before you.
These are not tasks given lightly. You have chosen the road with no map. Now walk it, and show the world what it means to be an irregular.]
The notification felt different from anything Moon had encountered before. It wasn’t just text conveying information, almost as if something vast and incomprehensible was observing him through the system interface itself.
Moon felt a chill run down his spine despite his previous confidence.
[Kill Fifty level 25 creatures classified at S-Rank power level alone. 0/50].
[Copy and comprehend 5 Uncommon or Rare rank skills. 0/5]
[Gain a Legendary Rank Skill. 0/1]
“What?” Moon’s face grew visibly solemn as shock flooded his senses. The tasks were nothing short of outrageous, far beyond what he’d anticipated even for his irregular class.
Selene immediately noticed his dramatic reaction and asked with genuine worry, “Are you okay? Is something wrong with the tasks?”
Moon shook his head, trying to compose his expression. “It’s just that the requirements are… extremely difficult. More challenging than I expected.”
Seeing him deliberately not elaborating on specifics, Selene understood better than to pry into private system information. “It’s okay. I’m sure you’ll figure out how to accomplish them eventually. If you need any help with anything I can assist with, I’m here for you. We’re a team—we can support each other.”
“Thanks,” Moon said sincerely before returning his attention to analyzing the impossible tasks.
The first requirement was incredibly daunting. Even the strongest human awakeners in recorded history had at most killed a handful of S-rank beasts before their evolution and many of those kills might have been accomplished with teams providing support, not solo.
S-rank creatures weren’t just powerful and extraordinarily difficult to defeat, they were also incredibly rare to encounter in the first place. Most awakeners never even saw one during their entire time in the First Sanctuary.
To kill fifty of them would take months of dedicated hunting time at minimum, requiring multiple extended expeditions just to locate enough specimens. The task seemed designed to be nearly impossible.
Thankfully, the second requirement was something Moon could actually accept and accomplish without much effort. Copying and comprehending five Uncommon or Rare rank skills would take approximately a month if he was fortunate and encountered enough awakeners, maybe a few additional days if circumstances proved less favorable, if the skills were completely new to him, or if comprehending them took some more time.
But the third task became something else entirely, a requirement that made Moon question everything he understood about the power system.
’Legendary rank? That rank actually exists?’ Moon thought in shock.
He had never heard anyone mention legendary rank skills. Not once, not in any conversation, documentation, news or even rumors.
He’d copied skills from two of the strongest people he’d ever encountered, Selene and Kael. Both were exceptional talents with potential that rivaled Evolvers who’d reached the Second Sanctuary or even Surpassers, those at the pinnacle of the second sanctuary.
Yet neither possessed anything above Epic rank, at least without evolving their skills
Moon couldn’t reasonably rely on simply copying epic skills from others and then evolving them further through life expenditure to reach legendary rank. The fundamental problem was that apparently nobody even received Epic rank skills from their initial class assignment, let alone anything higher.
’Maybe I just don’t have enough information about the upper limits. I should ask Selene carefully without revealing too much,’ Moon thought as he prepared his approach.
He sighed dramatically, running a hand through his hair. “These evolution tasks are really brutal. They’re asking me to hunt down multiple S-rank beasts solo, which I honestly don’t know if that’s even possible for someone at my current power level, despite reaching the highest level.”
Moon paused deliberately, then continued as if the thought just occurred to him, “Even if I manage to evolve one of my skills to Epic rank eventually through enough life investment, S-rank beasts would still be incredibly dangerous opponents. Maybe what I actually need is access to a skill above Epic rank to have a real chance, haha.”
He delivered the last part with a self-deprecating laugh, making it sound like an absurd fantasy rather than a serious question.
