Chapter 3707: Preventing Friendly Fire
Chapter 3707: Preventing Friendly Fire
The man and woman leading the two groups atop the cliff exchanged glances, and each saw the unease in the other’s eyes. If those people down below really did join forces to climb the cliff, it would be a serious problem. They might not be able to stay alive. Neither of the two believed that they could contend against the High Seraph, and even the conscients that they looked down upon were far, far stronger than anyone above the cliff.
Luo Ning frowned as he stared at the High Seraph. The young man’s heart dropped. That man should have had his title of Lesser Sancte revoked long ago.
The High Seraph was actually going after the Willbound Spire, and in doing so, had exposed the two groups approaching the palace. This was a blatant betrayal, and it could not be forgiven.
Finally, the exact scene that the people atop the cliff dreaded the most played out before their eyes.𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
At the bottom of the cliff, Yong Heng, Old Chief, and the other Luminaries split into two groups that were connected with spirit threads. The High Seraph stared at the top of the cliff, clearly preparing to ascend.
Seeing his preparations caused the hearts of all who looked down at him from above to drop. All eyes in both groups turned to look at their leaders.
Both the man and the woman’s faces fell. The individuals down below really were cooperating. This was precisely the last thing that they had wanted to see.
However, it was impossible for anyone at the top of the cliff to interfere with what was happening down below.
Unfortunately, even retreat was withheld from them.
Below the cliff, the High Seraph glanced at Yong Heng and Old Chief’s group of conscients before looking back at the flames filling the sky. They would not die for some time still. “Let’s go.”
With that, the High Seraph tapped the air. Brilliant light illuminated the darkness at the bottom of the cliff, and it shot high into the sky, tearing through the darkness as it sped towards the cliff.
Suddenly, the spirit threads quivered. Just as the High Seraph started leading Yong Heng and the others away from the bottom of the cliff, the threads linking the two groups were snagged by another spirit thread. At the distant end of that thread stood Lu Yin.
He had arrived at the very last moment, and he smiled at those attempting to leave.
The High Seraph instinctively glanced at Yong Heng, but this time, Yong Heng was equally surprised. He had not expected Lu Yin to arrive with such perfect timing. The younger man was neither early nor late, having arrived at the exact moment that they tried to climb up the cliff.
Old Chief and the others were similarly astonished. They also assumed that Yong Heng had coordinated with Lu Yin, but how could anyone communicate with others in different parts of the Willbound Spire?
Lu Yin’s smile was brilliant, to the point where it matched the light of Everlasting Will.
His impeccable timing was partly due to guesswork, but in large part, was due to Lightstream.
Lu Yin had known that the High Seraph would never abandon his attempt to climb the cliff. Given the current circumstances, there was only one way for him to make an attempt: form an alliance.
The High Seraph would need to work with either Lu Yin or Yong Heng.
Logically, Lu Yin should have been chosen. No matter how one examined the situation, Lu Yin was less of a threat than Yong Heng. Lu Yin did not believe himself capable of defeating Yong Heng just yet. Both True God and the High Seraph continued to hide the true depths of their power, and they exceeded what Lu Yin was capable of.
However, Yong Heng and the High Seraph had cooperated long ago to scheme to hinder the Tianyuan Megaverse’s development.
On top of that, the fact that Lu Yin cultivated karma made the High Seraph extremely wary of the younger man.
When the High Seraph had suddenly appeared, only to immediately retreat, Lu Yin had realized that the man intended to work with Yong Heng.
Lu Yin did not know why, but it was possible that the High Seraph’s plans for Lu Yin did not allow Lu Yin to grow stronger. The man might have no choice but to cooperate with Yong Heng.
Regardless, the moment that the High Seraph took action, his choice had been confirmed. Lu Yin had expected the man to wait a bit longer before returning again, but as soon as Lu Yin had left, the High Seraph had returned and allied with Yong Heng. There seemed to be a bit of a rush.
Naturally, as soon as Lu Yin left, he had repeatedly released Lightstream, fearing that a single moment of carelessness would allow the High Seraph and Yong Heng to reach the top of the cliff, leaving Lu Yin with nothing.
Fortunately, his caution had paid off. The High Seraph really had teamed up with Yong Heng.
Everlasting Will dragged the spirit threads towards the cliff.
The High Seraph stared at Lu Yin, a rare bit of hesitation glimmering in the man’s eyes.
Lu Yin spoke up. "You're not thinking of attacking me, are you? Believe it or not, even if you all team up, I can still drag you down with me."
Lightstream then surged, demonstrating Lu Yin’s mastery of the power of time while a spiral of karma appeared around his fingers. Instantly, both the High Seraph and Yong Heng felt immense pressure.
Karma was something that they absolutely did not want to touch. If Lu Yin unleashed his power of karma to fill the area, retreat would become necessary, and that would drag them all back down to the bottom of the cliff.
It was impossible for the High Seraph to climb the cliff on his own. The very fact that Yong Heng and the others were incapable of touching the cliff guaranteed that they would attack the High Seraph if he tried to move on alone.
The High Seraph turned his head and stopped looking at Lu Yin.
Lu Yin turned his attention to Yong Heng, who just smiled back. “You always find a way to surprise people.”
Lu Yin shook his head. “Drop the act. Everyone already knows that you told me when you were leaving.”
Yong Heng paused, caught off guard by this comment.
Old Chief and the other conscients all turned to stare at True God. Even the High Seraph glanced over.
Yong Heng calmly stated, “It was not me.”
Lu Yin chuckled. “Some tricks will only work once because no one will fall for them a second time.”
Yong Heng gave Lu Yin a long look. “You’re right.”
The High Seraph looked back at the cliff, his thoughts unreadable.
Old Chief exchanged glances with the other Luminaries. Both Lu Yin and Yong Heng were saying things that made almost no sense to the conscients. Still, Lu Yin had arrived at the perfect moment. It would be difficult to explain such timing without an informer. However, if someone had passed him a message, there had been no indication of any communications. Besides, how could anyone communicate across the regions of the Willbound Spire?
Still, both men were from the Tianyuan Megaverse. It was certainly possible that they possessed some unique means of communication.
It was silent as Everlasting Will moved closer to the top of the cliff, steadily closing the distance.
The speed was incredible, and they only needed to travel a small distance. In fact, they were so close that the distance should be practically negligible. Despite that, it was clear that they were slowly moving closer to the top of the cliff. Already, the High Seraph was closer than what Lu Yin and Yong Heng had ever managed.
The expressions of everyone atop the cliff changed.
“Move! Hurry! Don’t let them get close!” the male leader growled.
This snapped people out of their stupor, and everyone started rushing towards the palace, braving the pressure of the memories. No one was willing to leave their fate in the hands of those from below the cliff, especially not the conscients that they had always regarded as ants. If those ants rose up to stand on the same level, then the current balance would reverse. The people atop the cliff would become the ants, and that was something that they could never accept.
On top of that, there was also Lu Yin. No matter how anyone above the cliff looked at the young man, his existence was unbearable.
Luo Ning’s eyes glittered as he stared at Lu Yin. Lu Yin happened to be looking back, and he smirked while dragging a finger across his own throat.
The gesture caused Luo Ning’s pupils to shrink. He clenched his jaw and charged ahead.
There was no doubt that the man wanted to attack Luo Ning. Such a powerful expert had to be prevented from ever reaching the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Should he reach that place, he would act without restraint. Threatening the man with the power of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse would do no good. In fact, the monstrous young man might already be fully aware of their power.
Luo Ning regretted coming.
...
Elsewhere in the Consciousness Megaverse, Boundless started moving, and once again, it was traveling towards the Willbound Expanse.
While Old Chief and the other Luminaries had trapped the battleship with their Endless Road, it was impossible to trap the vessel forever. When the conscients had received the message that Emperor Slayer had entered the Willbound Expanse and that the High Seraph had gone into the Willbound Spire, they had left without fully deploying Endless Road.
This allowed Boundless to once again head for the Willbound Expanse.
After half a month, their destination entered their sight.
The scenery of the Broken Realm exceeded all expectations. No one had anticipated such beauty.
At the same time that the Willbound Expanse appeared, those aboard Boundless also saw the other battleships.
Those vessels similarly spotted Boundless.
“Boundless has finally arrived,” someone commented.
“They were deliberately stalling, but they couldn’t do so for long.”
“Now, it’s time to attack and destroy the Willbound Expanse! Lord High Seraph should lead the strike so that we can defeat this megaverse once and for all!”
“We’ve waited so long for this moment! Those old farts must be bug‑eyed by now.”
“Shh! Be careful! Someone might hear you.”
...
Aboard one battleship, Meng Sang stared at Boundless. Everyone had expected the ship to arrive late, but what would happen next? Was the High Seraph still aboard Genesis? With Lord Yong Heng gone, it was almost certain that the High Seraph had also left. Things were getting interesting.
What would Lord Lu think if he knew that the High Seraph has already entered the Willbound Expanse? No one can guess the High Seraph’s intentions, no one but Lord Yong Heng.
Old Salamander was also staring at Boundless, seemingly searching for Lu Yin. The ancient beast was still very wary, fearing another attack from Lu Yin despite the steep price that Old Salamander had already paid.
Fortunately, Meng Sang was also present, and Old Salamander was supported by Lord Yong Heng. On top of that, he also currently had Heaven's Seal, so there was no reason for Old Salamander to be afraid.
Su Shidao moved over to Boundless and stepped aboard. He was looking for Lu Yin, intending to report the recent events. There was something off about that meteorite. It was far too strange.
“Is Seraph Lu not here?” Su Shidao was surprised.
All the elites of Boundless were standing before him. Everyone had gathered on the deck, and Su Shidao saw all the experts who had made an impression on him, such as Astral Anura, Wilderness God, and Sovereign Dou Sheng. At the center stood the Origin Progenitor himself.
At this moment, everyone from Boundless had solemn expressions. Not one of them so much as glanced at the Willbound Expanse. They were all observing the other battleships.
A sense of dread welled up in Su Shidao. He looked at the Origin Progenitor. “Se... Senior?”
The Origin Progenitor looked over at the Seraph and chuckled. “It’s true that I’ve lived longer and am also stronger than you. There’s nothing humiliating about you calling me ‘senior.’”
As Su Shidao met the Origin Progenitor’s gaze, his anxiety deepened. There was hesitation in the Origin Progenitor’s eyes, but what was he hesitant about?
“Where did Seraph Lu go?”
The Origin Progenitor smiled. “You’re Su Shidao. You became a Seraph thanks to Pillar. In honor of your connection, tell me: would you rather side with Boundless or with the Spirit Nidus?”
Su Shidao grew confused. “Why ask that question, Senior?”
“To confirm your position. We want to prevent friendly fire,” the Origin Progenitor casually replied.
Su Shidao’s expression changed. “What do you mean, ‘friendly fire’?”
The eyes of the surrounding experts all shifted and fell upon the Seraph. He felt a mountainous pressure fall upon him from the intense gazes. Su Shidao’s expression twisted in shock. This was the same feeling as when he had visited the Ascendant Hall. No, this was even worse. Not even that place had so many hidden experts who were capable of making Su Shidao feel pressure. What’s going on? Why are there so many powerhouses on Boundless?
The old man had already known that there were a number of sequence powerhouses, Ortusers, and even Dukkhans on Boundless, but he had always believed that only a few were capable of threatening him. While Astral Anura and Wilderness God had both proven that they could fight against Emperor Wu and needed to be viewed with caution, neither was capable of actually posing a real threat to Su Shidao. He was fully confident that he could defeat both of those experts. After all, Su Shidao was a powerful Seraph.
However, at the moment, he was not feeling pressure from just Astral Anura and Wilderness God. He was certain that there were at least five experts aboard the battleship who posed a threat, possibly more. Is this Boundless’s true strength?
“What are you planning?” Su Shidao asked, stunned.
The Origin Progenitor gave a mild smile. “To fulfill the Tianyuan’s destiny.”
The Dao Bell rang out, drawing the attention of the other five battleships. Yuan Qi stood beside his bell and let out a deep breath. He had never imagined that Boundless would do something like this. Seraph Lu had kept things well hidden. This had been his true objective all along.
The Origin Progenitor stepped off of Boundless and faced the other five vessels. With a loud laugh, he announced. “Ladies and gentlemen, you are now our prisoners.”
Such a thing had never occurred in the history of the Spirit Nidus. There were five universe-class battleships, four Seraphs, several powerful Dukkhans, and a number of Ortusers. It was an incredible army, and yet they were hearing such bizarre words.
They were... prisoners?
