Chapter 3947: No Distinction Between Good And Evil

Chapter 3947: No Distinction Between Good And Evil

Greater Sancte Awe Gate slowly said, “The Death Megaverse brings death to other civilizations. When we first became aware of them, we knew that our Nine Odysseys Megaverse was facing a terrible calamity. If we couldn’t avoid it, we would have to fight to the death. Fortunately, we managed to avoid it.”

“Could you have won?” Lu Yin asked.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate chuckled. “Win? You’re overthinking it. At that time, our plan was to sacrifice the Tianyuan Megaverse.”

Lu Yin's eyes glinted.

“When a civilization encounters an impossible catastrophe, it can only try to find a way to continue on. I believe that you’ve faced situations in the Tianyuan Megaverse where you were forced to ensure the continuation of a certain faction or family. Expand that concept to encompass the entire human race. That was what we were dealing with.

“Even Blood Tower, the battle-crazed maniac, had no thoughts of fighting back. Our only option was to sacrifice the Tianyuan Megaverse, which lies farthest away from us. That was all.”

At this point, Greater Sancte Awe Gate looked back at Lu Yin. “Compared to the Spirit Nidus, your Tianyuan has been quite lucky. It hasn’t had its resources plundered, nor its cultivation methods altered. It wasn’t tied to us to share our prosperity and our ruin. The Tianyuan may seem distant to our megaverse, but it serves as both a shield and, at times, our final hope. Lu Yin, the fact that you carried the burden of the Tianyuan, fought against the Spirit Nidus, and forced your way into the Nine Odysseys Megaverse is something that we admire. It’s why we’ve supported you all along. If not for that, just the fact that you’ve comprehended karma wouldn’t have been nearly enough to earn you such tolerance from us. At the very least, you wouldn’t have been allowed to keep any Immortal matter.”

Lu Yin remembered how Gu Duanke had mentioned that no one in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse was allowed to keep Immortal matter aside from the Immortal Greater Sancti. Not even the Lesser Sancti were an exception to that rule. When hearing that, Lu Yin had wondered if the three Greater Sancti were being too kind to him, as it felt like they were treating someone from the Tianyuan Megaverse as their own child.

Even at that time, he knew that the Immortals looked at humanity as a whole, rather than focusing solely on the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. It was only at this moment that he realized that his understanding of the Greater Sancti had still been too shallow. Not only did their cultivation surpass all others, but so did their considerations. Such a perspective could only be attained by truly transcending everything else.

Immortality made no distinction between good and evil.

“Senior, while I wasn’t able to locate the skeleton or any Netherfiends, I do know that there was a hidden hand manipulating the events that took place at Cragpeak—Yong Heng,” Lu Yin stated.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate was taken aback. “The traitor?”

Lu Yin nodded, and Greater Sancte Awe Gate sank deep into thought.

After a time, she said, “Yong Heng is a very special existence. He has betrayed humanity, the Netherfiends, and even Silent Death.”

Lu Yin had already known that Yong Heng had betrayed both humanity and the Netherfiends, but he had not known that the man was also connected to Silent Death.

“What’s his story?”

“Yong Heng is a mystery. He’s lived for a very long time. You can consider him human, but he’s different from other humans. You could also say that he’s not human, but at a glance, it’s impossible to see any differences. He first betrayed humanity, and then the Netherfiends before disappearing for a while. When he reappeared, he was mixed in with Silent Death, but he quickly betrayed them as well. During that time, he became quite infamous. The entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse was hunting him, yet he still managed to escape.

“No one knew where he fled to. It was only when news from the Tianyuan Megaverse arrived that we learned that he had created his Aeternus there, hoping to take over your megaverse and dominate the entire place. As for how he managed to stay hidden, that was thanks to Master Qing Cao. You’ve spoken to him about Yong Heng before, but he refused to tell you anything.

“I don’t know much about him either. He’s always remained hidden in the shadows.”

Lu Yin found the situation rather absurd. He had risen up to rule over the Tianyuan, fought against Spirit Nidus, suppressed the entire Consciousness Megaverse, broken into the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, and even met the Immortal Greater Sancti. But even after all that, Yong Heng alone had managed to stay hidden from Lu Yin. The man was an incessant thorn in his side.

Furthermore, that thorn had pricked not only Lu Yin, but also the Nine Odysseys Megaverse itself, as well as groups like the Netherfiends and Silent Death.

Just what was going on with Yong Heng?

Greater Sancte Awe Gate interrupted Lu Yin's thoughts, saying, “The battle at Cragpeak should have shown you the dangers lurking within the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, but those dangers are not your concern for now. We haven’t been able to learn the truth, even after all these years. We hoped that your method of using karma might allow us to find a breakthrough point, but it seems that our hopes were in vain. I might as well use this opportunity to explain a few things to you so that you don’t fall prey to wild speculation.”

Lu Yin arched a brow. Wild speculation? What does that even mean?

It was clear that Greater Sancte Awe Gate was hinting at something.

Had she figured something out?

Lu Yin certainly had a few suspicions. Ever since Qing Xing had warned him, he had held certain doubts regarding the three Immortal Greater Sancti. Even if Lu Yin was not overly cautious of the Immortals, he was certainly much more wary of them than before.

The actions that the leaders of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had taken had erased most of Lu Yin’s fears of the Tianyuan Megaverse being reset, and that had also reduced his hostility without him being aware of it. However, Qing Xing’s comment had caused Lu Yin’s original wariness to return.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate spoke slowly as she shared a story. “A figure once appeared in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse by the name of Qi Xu. She was the fourth Immortal of that era, which was before I was even born.”

Lu Yin’s eyes narrowed. Another Immortal?

Greater Sancte Awe Gate's expression turned nostalgic. “However, she was not from our Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Rather, she wasn’t even human at all, as she was a conglomeration of all emotions in existence. At first, Greater Sancte Green Lotus didn’t know this about her. While her arrival made the Greater Sancti of that time cautious, a battle between Immortals is no small matter. They did not immediately eliminate her, which led to disaster.

“Qi Xu spread her emotions across our megaverse, amplifying countless people's greed and desires, which led to mass slaughter. By the time the Greater Sancti realized what was happening, at least one-fifth of all the cultivators in this megaverse had been mired in hatred. Left with no choice, Green Lotus and the others repeatedly fought against her.

“Qi Xu was powerful, but against the combined assault of three Immortals, she was continuously forced to retreat, suffering injuries before eventually fleeing. Even so, she never left the Nine Odysseys Megaverse; she merely went into hiding. From that point on, the Netherfiends started to appear, which led to a prolonged hunt. The disaster that Qi Xu brought to this Nine Odysseys Megaverse was terrible. While Green Lotus and the other Immortals were able to fight against her, other cultivators, even the peak Dukkhans of that era, could not stand up to her because of her unique emotional powers.

“Fortunately, Greater Sancte Mi Jin created his A Thousand Years’ Dream. Anyone who cultivated it would not leave a corpse or spirit seed behind after dying, but instead just a dream spirit. Dream spirits are able to track emotions, much like how Allsenses can perceive such things. With the help of the dream spirits, Qi Xu was no longer able to bring disaster upon the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.

“She died during the final battle, alongside Greater Sancte Mi Jin. When that happened, it wasn’t because the other two refused to help Mi Jin, but rather that they couldn't. Only Mi Jin was able to capture Qi Xu.”

Lu Yin understood. It was no wonder why Qing Xing had said that two had retreated, leaving one to fight to the death.

He did not doubt Greater Sancte Awe Gate’s words, as the Immortal Greater Sancti would not stoop so low as to tell lies.

Still, there was something that he could not understand. “If the three Greater Sancti had already gravely wounded Qi Xu, why did Mi Jin still have to die with her?”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate showed a bitter smile. “Do you think that it would be easy to kill an Immortal? Especially back then...” She paused briefly before continuing to say, “It’s extremely difficult to truly kill an Immortal. Even now, Qi Xu isn’t actually dead.”

Lu Yin was shocked. “Didn’t you say that the two perished together?”

“They did perish together, but Qi Xu’s power remains in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.”

Lu Yin stared at Greater Sancte Awe Gate in a daze for a moment. Suddenly, a connection appeared in his mind. “The Seven Fairies?”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate nodded as she turned to meet Lu Yin’s gaze. “Qi Xu and Mi Jin perished together, but before that happened, Green Lotus split Qi Xu’s emotional power into seven different aspects that he hid in his Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm. Over time, those emotions started to dissipate, and they were eventually noticed. That’s why he had no choice but to extract those seven aspects of emotional power and merge them into the bodies of seven girls, who are currently known as the Seven Fairies.

“That is why each of the Seven Fairies bear specifically flawed personalities. They carry this burden for our megaverse-”

“Wait.” Lu Yin interrupted Greater Sancte Awe Gate, completely forgetting all sense of propriety. He simply had too many unanswered questions. “Does that mean that all Seven Fairies are actually from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse? Also, who noticed? It actually feels like you’re withholding some information, and while I don’t insist that you tell me, I simply prefer a bit of clarity, if at all possible.”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate revealed a faint smile. “There are certain things that I won’t say, so don’t ask. This isn’t because I don’t want to tell you, but rather that this isn’t the right time. You already know more than anyone other than the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s Immortals, which is more than even the Great Master. Be content.

“As for the Seven Fairies, it’s true that one of them isn’t a native of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Back then, one emotional aspect went out of control and managed to escape our megaverse. Fortunately, Green Lotus caught it in time and merged it into a girl in a foreign megaverse during a limited window of opportunity. That girl was brought back here, where she became one of the Seven Fairies.

“As for who noticed...” Her expression grew serious. “Do you think that Qi Xu arrived here by accident?”

Lu Yin’s eyes flickered. “Is there someone behind her? But she was an Immortal.”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate clasped her hands behind her back. “I could also say that I have people behind me: Greater Sancti Green Lotus and Blood Tower. They are both my seniors. Being Immortal doesn’t mean being supreme.”

Lu Yin looked at her. “In that case, who was behind her?”

“As I said, there are certain things that I won’t say, so don’t ask. You will know what you need to when the time comes. However, there is one thing that you must remember: Qi Xu’s death can never be exposed. Her death must remain sealed within the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. To do that, Green Lotus paid a tremendous price to preserve Qi Xu’s power using his Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm. That was no easy feat. You could even say that word of her death can be considered bait, though it will lure in nothing but disaster.”

Lu Yin was left speechless. “The Nine Odysseys Megaverse has far too much bait in it.”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate also felt helpless. “There’s nothing that we can do about that. The more you interact with the omniverse, the more bait you end up attracting. Anything that returns here could potentially doom us, bringing a complete catastrophe. So, do you still want your Tianyuan to merge with the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?”

Truthfully, Lu Yin hesitated. He felt that the Nine Odysseys Megaverse was in even greater danger than his own megaverse.

He had faced many crises in the Tianyuan Megaverse, but he had at least known who his enemies were. In the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, he lacked even that.

The Aevum Inch could be seen as a vast lake where nothing could be reeled in without potentially costing the fisherman his life.

The silent, suffocating weight pressing on his chest left Lu Yin feeling extremely uncomfortable.

“Of course, there’s no need to be too pessimistic. Our human race is not weak. We have three Immortals, which allows us to stand tall in the forest of the cosmos. We just need to be cautious and avoid crossing paths with those fishing civilizations. Haven’t we also destroyed several foreign megaverses? Objectively speaking, we’re not exactly good guys either,” Greater Sancte Awe Gate commented.

“Those words don’t bring me any comfort, Senior. Quite the contrary, as I believe in karma,” Lu Yin softly replied.
