Chapter 2498 - 2498: Duty Calls

“Reira-senpai, Nikka-senpai, are you settling in fine?”

Club hours started. After I walked my girls to their destination, I went to pick up the seniors from the Alchemy Research Club.

As usual, there was no trace of Enomoto around. Whatever that guy was doing, he’s really letting down the girl waiting for him to notice her affection.

“I, more or less, settled in. But you… You’re always away. And here I thought I’d get to spend more time with you.” Despite not showing any hint of it, Reira-senpai sounded slightly sad.

To think this lovely senior would be this expressive about missing me, I couldn’t help but smile. “Well, Reira-senpai, the Literature Club is like a hydra, you know? It’s got a lot of heads and all of them need my attention.”

“Hydra, huh? So, I ended up becoming just one of the heads? So much for my special status, Ruki-kun.” Reira-senpai replied with a playful pout.

“Should I focus more on you, senpai? Like… do you want me to hug you and watch how you work?”

“That’s not what I meant!” Reira-senpai swiftly retorted but the way her glasses fogged up and her cheeks took on the pink color made her cuteness stand out more than her natural allure.

Nikka-senpai giggled at our exchange, “You two are so… so… affectionate to each other. I’m envious.”

“Don’t worry, Nikka-senpai,” I assured her, “If I see Enomoto, I’ll tell him not to neglect you, otherwise I might just do his part for him.”

“You cheeky brat, don’t tease Nikka like that.” Reira-senpai cut in, pulling me by the ear.

On the other hand, Nikka-senpai forced a smile, not taking any offense from my mischievous mouth. But really, she’s quite pitiful. How long will that guy neglect her? What is he doing with his goons, anyway? Is dealing with the delinquents in school more important than taking care of his childhood friend?

Soon, we arrived at the Literature Club. Most of my girls were already there and before I could leave for my duty as the Disciplinary Officer, I went around the room, checking on the progress of the now-more expansive scenarios and the other plans that we’d implement when we started decorating the designated venue for our booth.

Of course, I sneaked in a few moments of flirting with all of them, including Otsuka-senpai.

Before I stepped out to leave, Kana ran up to me, showing me good news that she recently received.

An update about the contest where she sent her novel. She already passed the first round and was even guaranteed to have her work published. But this time, the news was about the upcoming announcement of the eight finalists and her work was one of those. It said it would be posted on the site of the organizer and also be included in the new publication of their news magazine.

In short, all eight finalists would finally be shown to the public and her work was one of them.

“Mhm. I know you’ll be a winner soon so… Wanna celebrate it, Kana?”

“Mou… let’s not celebrate too early, Ruki. But I’m glad it worked out.”

I ruffled her hair and poked her puffed up cheeks with my thumbs, “Don’t be so humble. You’re already a winner in my eyes, Kana. And we’ll help in promoting it. Wait. I’ll do it right now.”

Upon saying that, I accessed the social media app for my cosplay persona that my girls made for me. I was already regularly posting daily updates there so… I’ll just promote her work. I copied the link leading to her work and wrote a post, recommending it.

In just a second after posting it, the post immediately received tens of hearts from the followers of the account.

Kana’s eyes sparkled at the sight of the rapidly increasing hearts, and she couldn’t help but become a little flustered at the thought that more people would be able to read her work.

Of course, the organizer didn’t put the revised version of her novel in it, just the one she submitted for the contest and only a part of it.

Since hers was a detective novel, they highlighted the ones where the main character showed their deduction skill.

After seeing the number of hearts go up to 100, I pocketed my phone back, smiling at Kana’s glowing face. “Looks like your fanbase is growing, Kana. They’ll be eager to see how your story unfolds.”

“Yes! I’ll do my best to give them the best version of it!” She smiled beautifully before hugging me tightly and pulling my head down to bestow me a kiss.

Her shy nature was pushed aside to show this affectionate side of her. Mhm. I’m proud of her.

When I arrived at the Student Council, Shizu and Haruko were already about to leave. Since they’re going to head the Cultural Festival Committee again, the Student Council work was temporarily halted or set aside.

“Leaving already?” I said, looking at the stack of papers they were carrying.

“Good timing, numbskull. Help us carry these to the committee room. We’re going to start accepting the proposals of the clubs for their booths.” Shizu was already in work mode, but the moment she stepped close to me, she sneaked in a kiss as though my lips were her energizer.

On the other hand, Haruko smiled meaningfully, “Hubby, are you going on patrol again? You know we may need your assistance inside.”

“No problem. You can call for me if you need me.” I nodded at Haruko before glancing at Shizu, who was already walking ahead with an extra swing in her step. “But I’ve got some Disciplinary stuff to handle first.”

As I said that, I turned to Komoe, who looked ready to receive my instructions. Next to her, Minami Shouko looked bright today. I signaled them to wait for me before following Shizu and Haruko and carrying the papers.

I helped them set up the place, making sure that they wouldn’t be uncomfortable in it because they’d be sitting there for a long time.

By the time I stepped out of the room, many Club Presidents were already waiting outside for their turn to be evaluated. Luckily, there was Watanabe and Masato-senpai keeping things organized there.

Just from the atmosphere alone, the upcoming Cultural Festival was already making waves in our school.

Anyway, I decided to mention Yue’s plan to have a ‘surprise’ performance later. For now, I have something to do in my office.

“Watanabe, take care of the club presidents for now. I’ll be joining you keeping order here later after I’m done with my work.”

“No problem, Onoda-kun! Oh. Right, I heard from Kaede. Take care of her, okay?!” The girl saluted again before I could even respond.

I chuckled. “Don’t worry. I’ll keep my promise to you and ensure she’ll regain her motivation to run again.”

“Heh. Your confidence is too inspiring, Onoda-kun.” Watanabe grinned. The sparkle in her eyes spoke of how much she’s expecting from me.

Not far away, Masato-senpai nodded in agreement, “We’ll keep things here in order. You do your thing.”

With that, I returned to my office where Komoe and Minami Shouko were waiting.

And not long after that, Yanagi Kaede appeared, bringing in what I told her earlier. Her official report on the wrongdoings happening in the Track and Field Club.
