Chapter 691 Promotion
“That sounds like a good plan,” the Chief Overseer said. “It also helps my case a lot. We have already lost many resources to this person, and if I’m wrong, we are only going to lose 50% of another wager. However, if I’m proven right, we will be able to get rid of an enemy recruit.”
“Enemy?” Kyle asked with a raised brow.
“The line between enemies and competitors is blurry,” the Chief Overseer said. “Our true enemy is the Cult of Final Fate, but the other Organizations are also after us. The difference is just that the Organizations are after the end of our Organization instead of the end of our existence.”
“You could say the fight between Organizations is a traditional war between nations, while the fight against the Cult is about our survival.”
Kyle nodded to show that he understood.
“Now, let’s get to your advancement and your reward,” the Chief Overseer said.
“You wish to have your advancement after the next shift as a Rarity Hunter, correct?” he asked.
“Yep,” Kyle said. “Earning more Contribution Points is probably a good thing. Also, I only have to spend a couple of minutes or hours on this job. In addition, I don’t want to just tell my team that I will leave them without a last shift together.”
“That can be arranged,” the Chief Overseer said. “Now, let’s talk about your reward.”
“First of all, I want to comment on your success as an Exchange Seeker. As you know, this job is mostly taken by people who are not very confident in becoming a 12/13 Primal, but that’s obviously not the truth in your case.”
“While sending you to more Organizations would promote our image in the eyes of these Organizations, I don’t think that’s the best use of your time anymore. Your advancement speed is amongst the top, and if you survive your potential fight, your Momentum should also be powerful enough to become a 12/13 Primal.”
“If you survive your potential fight, you will become a person we want to invest in. Because of that, I want to give you a simple and straightforward reward.”
“Freedom until you become a Crusher and the status of an Inner Disciple.”
“It’s important to note that you will receive both rewards immediately. As an Inner Disciple, you receive access to more information, a base allowance of 1,000 Contribution Points per century, and more lucrative choices for voluntary duties.”
“How does that sound?”
Kyle nodded a couple of times in appreciation. “Yeah, that sounds pretty good. It’s basically free money. Why wouldn’t I accept?”
The Chief Overseer nodded. “Then, it’s decided. According to the plan, if the enemy sends another challenge, you will fight them in roughly 500 years. You will do one last shift as a Rarity Hunter. You will not be sent to another Organization.”
“Sounds great,” Kyle said with a smile.
The next moment, the Chief Overseer took out a new Communicator and handed it to Kyle.
“The rankings of Disciples are hidden. Outer, Inner, and Core Disciples wear the same uniforms and look the same. The only way you can differentiate between them is by looking at the profile of their Communicator, which can only be shared by the owner.”
“While you are allowed to share your status with anyone you want, I would advise against it. Every Organization has spies in every other Organization. The Organizations do not care about the Outer Disciples, but Inner Disciples will already enter their eyes.”
The Chief Overseer narrowed his eyes. “This branch has over 500 Inner Disciples, and in the last century, over ten of them were assassinated by people beyond their Realm sent by other Organizations.”
“While your fight will not be broadcast, there will still be a few members from the two Organizations present, which means your identity will be unveiled to the enemy. You have to be very careful in the future. Do you understand?” the Chief Overseer asked.
“Sure,” Kyle answered casually.
‘It’s a bit like back when I exposed my identity as Theodor’s inheritor. Except that I was already pretty strong.’
‘Yeah, well, no risk, no reward, right?’
“Good,” the Chief Overseer asked. “Then, I will contact you when we receive the challenge.”
“Sure thing!” Kyle said casually.
The Chief Overseer teleported away, and Kyle looked at his new Communicator.
It looked just like the old one.
Yet, when he looked at a couple of familiar pages, he realized that there were several new things he could ask for.
For example, he now had the option to directly contact the Chief Overseer.
Next, Kyle opened the shop, and he noticed that he had received his allowance already.
On top of that, the prices had changed.
The helmet for unlocking the Law of Center now suddenly only cost 200 Contribution Points instead of 2,000.
‘Wow, that’s crazy!’ Kyle thought as he saw the difference in prices.
Not only did he have access to much more money, but the prices were also all massively reduced.
That was when he noticed a completely new category in the job. “Trials?” Kyle uttered.
He clicked on the category and found an introduction to what trials were.
‘Wait, what?’ he thought as he read something very interesting.
Trials were generally inheritances that a powerful Seeker or Organization had created to find a good inheritor or Disciple. Apparently, the Array of Stars had built many of those, and it had also catalogued the locations of several unaffiliated inheritances.
Funnily enough, if one found such a natural inheritance, one could simply sell the location to the Array of Stars for a hefty profit and even quite a bit of Karmic Luck.
Of course, one was allowed to partake in the trial oneself as well.
However, that was not the interesting part.
‘Natural Trials?’ Kyle thought in confusion. ‘What the fuck is that? Well, whatever they are, they are fucking expensive!’
Kyle looked up the concept of Natural Trials and quickly found an answer.
‘Okay, if I hadn’t had confirmation that there was some kind of God or guy in charge of this entire world, this would confirm it. How the fuck do you explain the sudden appearance of trials? Like, they just suddenly pop up! No known Seeker involved! One moment, there’s nothing, the next moment, an entire underground complex with rewards and trials is there.’
‘But why are they so much more expensive?’
As Kyle read more, he got his answer.
‘Oh! It’s because the rewards are not stealable.’
After buying an Artificial Trial, the Array of Stars looked at the rewards.
Naturally, they weren’t supposed to be able to do that, but what could a trial created by a hypothetical Spirit Lord do against the perception of an Immortal?
Because of that, most Artificial Trials had their most valuable rewards removed before others gained access to them.
That wasn’t true with Natural Trials.
They were created by the world itself, and anyone who broke the trial’s rules would receive an absolutely devastating hit to their Karmic Luck.
There were even stories in which an Immortal had tried to break such a trial to get to the reward and immediately received a True Sin Aura.
‘But those things are super expensive,’ Kyle thought as he looked back at the shop. ‘Although it doesn’t really matter. People don’t really go to these trials for the rewards.’
‘The true appeal are the True Battles. The Natural Trials are amazing at estimating your power, and you will receive an optimal True Battle.’
After looking at the shop for a while longer, Kyle decided to return to his training.
