Chapter 697 Chasing Something
Kyle took a deep breath.
‘Comprehending this was horrendous, but sure enough, it worked, and this Law is super useful.’
Since he had comprehended the Law, Kyle now knew exactly what it did.
The Law of Mind allowed Kyle to focus better.
He could tune out all the distracting thoughts and could focus on one thing at a time while reliably storing information in the background.
The last puzzle had shown this effect brilliantly.
Kyle had been able to remember all the incorrect solutions without forgetting even one of them.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the Law of Mind.
Sure, he had comprehended it after he had finished the puzzle, but at that point, he had basically already used the entire thing.
‘With all four of the Laws of Aspects, understanding Laws will get even easier in the future. They essentially improve my baseline as a Seeker.’
The next moment, Kyle looked at his Communicator since he wanted to know how long he had focused on comprehending the Law of Mind.
‘143 years,’ Kyle thought. ‘I would presume that’s an average length of time to comprehend this Law without being very talented in it.’
Of course, the word average in this case referred to members of the Array of Stars.
The vast majority of Primals never even comprehended this Law.
‘A bit less than 250 years are left until the fight happens. For now, I don’t think I need to focus on anything in particular. The only thing that would increase my power dramatically would be a new Complex Law, but I don’t have enough time for that.’
‘I guess it’s back to the ol’ swinging.’
‘Still no idea what I am aiming towards with my constant swinging, but it feels like the right thing to do.’
By now, Kyle had probably spent over 500 years just mindlessly swinging his hammer.
During that time, he had unlocked several Clusters and learned the Law of Soul.
Yet, that was about it.
500 years of work for just these gains.
It really looked like Kyle was just wasting his time.
‘But something inside of me tells me that I’m making progress towards something.’
‘There is something out there. I just don’t know what.’
‘Although I might as well just be wrong. I didn’t get a lot from my swinging.’
‘I know there is something, but I can’t be entirely certain. What if I am just wasting my time?’ he thought with an uncertain expression.
Then, Kyle got an idea, and he took out his Communicator again.
He searched for the contact of the Chief Overseer and sent him a message. Kyle explained what he had been doing and why he had been just swinging his hammer.
He ended the message with a simple question.
“Am I wasting my time by doing this?” he wrote before sending the message.
Kyle couldn’t find any fitting things in the database that fit the thing he was searching for.
A couple of seconds later, Kyle got an answer.
“Hi, no, keep going. It will take a long time, but if you succeed, it will all be worth it. I can assure you that you will not get what you want before the battle, but if you’re lucky, you might still get it as a Primal.”
That was the entire message.
When Kyle saw that, he grew more excited.
Yes, his feelings had told him that there was something out there, but hearing a confirmation of his suspicion made all the doubts vanish.
The Chief Overseer was an Immortal, and he knew what he was talking about.
Kyle thought about asking the Chief Overseer what it was that Kyle was chasing, but in the end, he decided against it.
Sometimes, knowing more was a bad thing.
For example, knowing how other people unlocked their Clusters could make it harder for oneself to unlock one’s Clusters.
‘Well, back to swinging, then,’ Kyle thought as he ordered several powerful objects that could resist his attacks.
Once more, Kyle started to hit random objects.
However, this time, things were a bit different.
The last time Kyle had swung his hammer like this was when he hadn’t even comprehended the Law of Soul yet.
Ever since then, he had comprehended the Law of Soul, Law of Center, and Law of Mind.
Swinging his hammer somehow felt different now.
The composition of the unfamiliar metals seemed to unveil itself to Kyle as he swung.
He couldn’t dent or break the objects, but hitting the objects helped him understand them.
Kyle’s Soul was picking up on subtle hints in his surroundings, feeding him information about how things worked.
Kyle’s Center pulled in far more Energy, and since his Energies no longer interfered with each other, he could also pick up on very subtle differences in the Energies.
Kyle’s mind subconsciously analyzed his instincts whenever he struck, allowing him to translate his instincts into actual complex concepts.
Different swings with his hammer felt slightly different each time.
Some of them felt especially satisfying, while others just felt mediocre.
In the past, Kyle would just keep swinging randomly to get that satisfying feeling more frequently, but now, he started to see why some swings felt bad.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t about how he moved his body.
His body already moved in a perfect manner.
All his muscles perfectly forwarded their powers to achieve maximum speed and power.
‘It’s the way I use my Energy,’ Kyle thought as he kept swinging.
During one of his swings, Kyle was reminded of the time he had learned Ether Strike from Bonk.
By mastering Ether Strike, Kyle’s strikes had become much more powerful, even though his physical movements had barely been any different.
Of course, as a Primal, Kyle had long since perfected and even improved Ether Strike beyond its capabilities.
And yet, he felt like it still wasn’t the end.
‘Is this what I’m working towards? Improving the way my Energy moves to achieve an even more powerful Ether Strike?’
‘…Maybe. I’m not entirely sure. It feels right, but it also doesn’t feel completely right.’
‘There’s more to this.’
Time passed.
Years upon years passed.
Strangely, the more time passed, the weirder Kyle’s body moved.
His muscles were no longer perfectly synchronized to achieve maximum.
Instead, there were weird stops in the middle of his strikes.
Sometimes, they slowed down before speeding up.
And yet, despite all of these things, Kyle noticed that his strikes were becoming more powerful.
If someone saw this, they might believe that some kind of mystical Law was at play here, but it was actually not that mysterious or complex.
Kyle was simply moving his body in this way to help his Energy move better.
By now, Kyle was no longer looking at how his body moved.
He was fully focused on the concepts his Energy showed while moving.
The movement of his Energy became incredibly complex, and his mind was not fast enough to correct his Energy’s movement in time.
Because of that, he outsourced part of his Energy movement to physical movement.
For example, he could change his Energy in these five ways, but the next change would take much longer and would take more effort. Because of that, he moved his muscles in a strange way, physically altering his Energy pathways by bending them. This would force the sixth change.
It was like controlling a ball to roll over a tightrope with many curves in it. At some point, the previous curves would speed the ball up far too much to control, and the next curve would make it drop. What Kyle was doing was to essentially shake the tightrope to make the ball jump over a difficult curve. It looked strange.
His body moved weirdly and unnaturally.
But it worked.
